Precious log cabin that is a must to stay at!
We lOved our time at this adorable log cabin in a quiet, peaceful location close to Lexington! We spent the rainy days nestled in this cozy place
Reading and the days of sunshine exploring the fabulous countryside, unique cafes, and historical landmarks. It is a place that we definitely want to return to!
definitely rustic - read the description
This cabin was exactly what I expected from the description and reviews. It *is* rustic, think Laura Ingalls Wilder. While the downstairs is pretty small, it served our needs perfectly with kitchen & bath. The shower had plenty of pressure and plenty of hot water. There are lots of little tables in appropriate locations for all the 'stuff' one has while traveling.
The upstairs has a large living area and nice sized bedroom, with a comfortable bed (even after the twins were converted to a king). Additionally, there is a ladder to the sleeping loft with additional twin beds. There is no overhead lighting in the upstairs portion, but there are adequate table and floor lamps.
WIFI was flawless. The TV reception was very spotty, however, and we decided it simply wasn't worth trying further. I did not find a cookie sheet, but there is a wide variety of pots & pans, serving bowls and a good selection of dishes, glassware, flatware.
Parking is extremely limited (perfect for a small car), but we were able to park (full-sized 4-door truck) elsewhere in the neighborhood.
The neighbors were extremely helpful, and Kate even provides the phone number for one of them. Kate was responsive and accommodating.
This would be perfect for a family with school-age children, but is not toddler friendly, and definitely not suitable for anyone with mobility/stair issues.
Not as advertised. Moisture content made health concern.
With no ill will towards Kate, we have a duty to be honest in our review towards encouraging trust and understanding in the VRBO community. There were enough issues that we chose not to occupy the unit.
We arrived after dark, to find the house across the street from the river, not on the river. The stone stairway to get to the main door was narrow and steep, with uneven (one near 1.5 to 2 feet high by estimate) and irregular steps, and one of those broken, creating scary potential for a fall with a rough landing.
The first floor, to include the bathroom and kitchen, were mostly clean and acceptable.
The second floor, where the bedroom, and access to the sleeping loft, and the main living space all are, was a different situation. There were multiple specimens of outdoor plants growing into the house through the walls, there were spider webs with live arachnids in the bedroom and at the top of the ladder to get to the loft. The humidity was tangibly thick. There was an odor of mildew. We found mold on a leather chair. The spiders grossed us out, but the mold and mildew gave us cause for respiratory health concern.
Someone had been there earlier to put some fresh flowers in the house, yet the air conditioner was left off - when it could have been running to help dehumidify the place.
We would not recommend this rental to others.
This harsh, unfounded and unnecessarily melodramatic review was left by a guest who mistakenly thought she was going to be staying in the equivalent of a five star hotel located in a woodsy setting. Her self-admitted interpretation of the descriptor "rustic" meant "no washer and dryer." She received a full refund. I encourage prospective guests to consider the 26 other more balanced reviews for a true appreciation of the accommodations being offered.
Charming river area retreat.
2nd year for renting this cabin. Quite peaceful area on the Kentucky River.
Thanks Joe! Hope you both come next year and make it three years in a row! Always a pleasure having you as guests.
Cute, rustic cabin! Close to everything we wanted to do.
Comtortable bed and great water pressure in the shower! Our stay was short but sweet!
Thanks Diane. Glad it worked out for you. Come back any time and stay longer. You'd be most welcome!
I truly enjoyed my stay in the little cabin. It was so peaceful and the owner worked to meet all my needs. It is a very quiet area not to far away from town. I was in Lexington for the three day event and it seemed that anywhere I wanted to go was 20 minute or less drive. I found that very good. The evenings were so peaceful to sit in the log sitting room with a glass of wine. I would consider staying there again on my next visit.
