Guestbook comments from the manager

Letter we received from one of our guest:

We are a gymnastics team from Gainesville, Florida and we stayed at your house at Wild Dunes during a meet that we went to in Charleston. Staying at your house was so much fun! When we walked in we couldn't believe how beautiful it was. Every room was so nicely decorated and the feather beds were awesome to sleep on! Most of the team slept in the bunkroom...that was fun having our own room. We went on a boat tour to Caspers Island and saw a lot of dolphins...there was even a mother and her little baby that had just been born! We had fun collecting shells and sand dollars even though it was really cold. Some of us rented bikes and some of us played beach volleyball. We loved the beach so much that we decided to take our team picture on the beach! Our meet was fun, but staying in your house made our trip the best that we have ever been on. Thank you for letting other people share your special home. We hope we can stay there again next year. Oh yeah...our parents loved it too! They plan to vacation there!

We took a family vacation to Charleston after Christmas and stayed at this property. We loved the open space in the house. My daughter (23) especially loved the hammock on the front porch. This house was very clean and roomy for 7 people. I would recommend this house to anyone who plans to visit the Charleston area. It was much better than staying in a hotel! We really enjoyed having a Christmas tree in the house too. We are thinking about coming back next year if possible. Thanks for sharing your victorian house with us. Janice and Gary Morris

Perfect Location - Amazing Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for almost a month and loved every minute of it! Sharon was a pleasure to deal with! The house had everything we required and it was definitely one of our better family vacations! Thank you for such a great place!

Know what you are getting

  • 2 of 5

Wild Dunes is a wonderful setting. Great golf, tennis and beaches. The house is conveniently located to the beach and is minutes away. We rented the house for 2 1/2 months (mid Jan to end of March). The home is a good size with 4 bedrooms but the home has not been updated since the 70's. We found the home to be dirty. Grime appeared on many things, furniture, walls door knobs, the master shower, etc.

When we arrived, we found the kitchen pans to be old and rusted. Cooking knives were useless. There was no vacuum. Sharon, the owner, eagerly replaced these but want not willing to replace the dilapidated couch. The oven works but does not get super hot. We lived through all of this for two months and then the heat in the house stopped working on the first floor. Sharon brought over 4 space heaters. I used one (which heated a couple of feet) but the concern over potential fires, risk to our dogs, and the fact that they did not do much, put an early end to our stay. The heat was out for 5 days. We finally had enough so we ending up leaving about 10 days early. I asked Sharon to compensate us for the 5 days the heat was out but she refused.

If you are looking for a place to house a lot of people, don't mind it being dirty and don't plan to cook, this might work but I will not be going back.

Owner's Response: First, I feel the need to say that I usually do not ""respond" to reviews because I think it is important to have different people leave their thoughts concerning the house but in this case I feel that I certainly do need to. Considering how often Sharon (the owner) responded to requests from these guests, I am surprised by this review. She immediately went out with new knives and replaced the Teflon frying pans that had scratches when the guest asked. Although she had a vacuum cleaner at the house, she purchased an upright for them. When the "slow close air pump” on the front screen door detached she immediately went over to drop the pin back in to fix it. She drew the line at replacing the sofa in the living room - quite frankly, I think she would have done this if it had in any way, shape, or form needed to be done. It did not. Concerning other above issues - oven has a temperature thermometer and works 100%. NEVER did the guest say the house was dirty - this would have been addressed immediately. This was the warmest winter in 8 years. When the downstairs heat went out, someone was called right away. They said it would be three days before replacement part would arrive. Sharon took 4 space heaters to them. It is important to say that this house has 2 separate systems and the other was working at 100%. The guest were paying less than 1/2 the normal price to begin with as this was a long term winter rental. The day before they left (because they had no heat) was 81 degrees, so I can only think there may have been a different motive for leaving than “they had no heat”. To say the house has not been touched since the 70’s is ridiculous as the house was built in 1990 and has been lovingly kept up and improved upon each year in one form or another – stainless appliances, frame-less glass shower doors, new tile in all baths, etc., etc.

Fantastic stay!

  • 5 of 5

The house was very much a home away from home. The home directions and instructions about the home given to us by Beth were excellent. All that staid at the home had a grand time! We will definitely be talking to Beth about staying here in the future!

Just booked our next trip!

  • 5 of 5

My best friend and I brought our families here over the summer and everyone loved it! The house fit everyone comfortably, with room to spare. The kids loved the bunk rooms and the adults enjoyed having two master bedrooms. The owner, Sharon, was in the neighborhood and stopped by to check on us. She is such a lovely lady. We did not meet Beth but she was so helpful and made the entire process very easy. We enjoyed ourselves soo much, we just booked our second trip to come back next summer. My only complaint is that I don't own this home and we had to leave. Can't wait to get back!

Great House, Excellent Location, Children Loved the Pool

  • 5 of 5

We (7 adults and 3 children and one little dog) thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your house. Very convenient to the beach and the swimming pools, lots of room for all of us to be comfortable. The house had everything that we needed to enjoy our vacation. Needed light bulbs and the response was immediate.
