Guestbook comments from the manager

Letter we received from one of our guest:

We are a gymnastics team from Gainesville, Florida and we stayed at your house at Wild Dunes during a meet that we went to in Charleston. Staying at your house was so much fun! When we walked in we couldn't believe how beautiful it was. Every room was so nicely decorated and the feather beds were awesome to sleep on! Most of the team slept in the bunkroom...that was fun having our own room. We went on a boat tour to Caspers Island and saw a lot of dolphins...there was even a mother and her little baby that had just been born! We had fun collecting shells and sand dollars even though it was really cold. Some of us rented bikes and some of us played beach volleyball. We loved the beach so much that we decided to take our team picture on the beach! Our meet was fun, but staying in your house made our trip the best that we have ever been on. Thank you for letting other people share your special home. We hope we can stay there again next year. Oh yeah...our parents loved it too! They plan to vacation there!

We took a family vacation to Charleston after Christmas and stayed at this property. We loved the open space in the house. My daughter (23) especially loved the hammock on the front porch. This house was very clean and roomy for 7 people. I would recommend this house to anyone who plans to visit the Charleston area. It was much better than staying in a hotel! We really enjoyed having a Christmas tree in the house too. We are thinking about coming back next year if possible. Thanks for sharing your victorian house with us. Janice and Gary Morris

Loved the location and Loved the house. We thoroughly enjoyed our multi-family vacation staying at this house. A super short walk to the beach and our favorite about the house was the wonderful porches - exactly as advertised. We are already talking about coming next year

Very Disappointed

  • 2 of 5

We arrived for our long awaited vacation to find a house with lots of problems. First the air was not working. Numerous calls were made. Service techs came late 2 nights in a row (11:30 PM), woke kids up, walked in bathroom on one child. They had to come out 4 times. Freon in upstairs unit finally helped a little so we did not sweat during our meals but it never really cooled down. Thermostat read 80/81 most afternoons. They said it was trading 2 degrees high which would still have it 78/79. They said part of the problem was the doors being opened frequently but we were on the beach for hours each day. We were told to not turn the oven on so that the house would stay cool but we had already bought food to cook and did not want to eat out every evening. There were box fans in bedrooms when we arrived and we quickly found out why they were there. Sand in one of the beds the first night - had to wash the sheets. Gater off back deck the first day we got there - granddaughter almost walked upon him before she ran up the back stairs. Animal control called - lots more people through house. Got gater to leave but it was back as soon as they left. No warning to be careful. Renters should be told about the possibility of seeing a gater and a sign should be posted on back door so that Disney event does not occur at this house. Like the previous person listed - the appliances are outdated so allow plenty of time if doing any baking. You will need to buy ice. Fan in small bedroom very noisy and we had to have them on as hot as it was. Had to replace lots of burned out light bulbs and no remote had batteries. Some brought out but not enough. Previous renters must have removed all of them or never had any either. Downstairs bathroom tub nozzle barely hanging on. Ocean access and pool access were great - thank goodness. I can understand now why the reviews are not recent ones - lesson learned. Beth said she would move us to another place but she didn't have anything available. We called around with other companies but decided it would be too time consuming to pack up and we would make the best of it. We thought we would be compensated for the troubles we experienced. We have since learned that a $100 check is being mailed to us which is an insult with the summer rates we paid. Why bother??? We have never had a bad experience at Wild Dunes in the 10 times we have visited or with VRBO but we will not be using this home or owners again.

Owner's Response: These guest were at the house during the worst continuous heat was that the SC Lowcountry has had since 1985. The a/c issue was addressed the first day they arrived only to be told by technician that a/c was working as it should (a/c is one year old) At Guest request, tech was called out again - and again we were told both a/c units were working fine. a/c tech was called out a total of four times and the owner even sent over her contractor to take a double check. Again, all was fine. 2 weeks have passed and we have had no complaints about a/c. As for "old appliances - Refrigerator was one week old - this guest broke the handle. Faucet on kitchen sink is 6 months old - faucet was dented when this guest left. Dishwasher is 3 months old. Stove and oven are stainless Steele and less than 5 years old. I find it hard to believe that someone would consider these "old" As for an alligator being outside - there are signs posted all over Wild Dunes, next to each lagoon. This house sits on a lagoon. I am very sorry that this guest did not enjoy their week at the house but do feel that we did everything we could to make their stay enjoyable.

A truly fine property

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I rented this specific property after reviewing many options on IOP and other areas around Charleston, where our daughter lives. This house is just as shown in the photos, with large front and back porches, sleeping arrangments for more than a dozen, a kitchen with requisite appliances and plenty of utensils, and great gathering areas. The house is within a minute's walk to the ocean and a luxury resort pool area. IOP has many activities to keep one active, or just bring a book/tablet and read away from the rockers or hammock. Whether you seek a restful time among a proper Southern setting, or a base for entertaining many, this property will not disappoint.

The perfect getaway if you think the Marriott is roughing it!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful vacation! We have vacationed in Wild Dunes for the past 8 years, and stayed in this house for the past three. The house in clean and very comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need. The back porch is my families favorite place to gather. The home's location is perfect, my young teens can walk to everything. Beside a trip to the grocery store I never moved my car!

Swim, bike,golf...it is all here. Plus a home away from home when it's time to just relax!

Great Vacation Kids Had a Blast

  • 5 of 5

Great house comfortable for all 10 of us. Very clean with a well equipped kitchen and great location. The children aged 9 through 15 could walk to everything beach, pools, tennis courts and the older boys golf. Really enjoyed the marina where we rented jet skis for a great tour and also went on an eco tour with Captain Chris. The back and front porch made a great place to hang out in the evening. Never had time for a nap in the hammock. Maybe next time.
