About the property

3 Bedrooms, kid's bed/play room, meditation room, 3.5 Baths, sleeps 10

Four generations of our family have enjoyed this spacious, lake-front home dramatically nestled on Lake Tahoe's West Shore. Designed to be family friendly, the cabin meanders over 4 levels down the gently sloping shoreline. Three floors of large windows and sliding glass doors give you gorgeous views of the lake from all around the home.

The home's main level contains the kitchen, dining area with large table for 8, living room with a wood burning fireplace, 46 inch HD Satellite/DVD/VCR TV, stereo and piano, guitars, library and access to the spacious main deck with lounge chairs, dining tables and a gas barbeque for outdoor entertaining. The library nook has several chairs, copies of the Marshall Holler Along Songbook, some select books on Tahoe history as well as novels to while away a snowy day. The library has some guidebooks which can help you plan your activities, and you can cross check the guide book's map against the floor-to-ceiling Lake Tahoe topographical map on one wall in the living room. The library also features a cupboard stocked with a wide variety of games and playing cards. In the library also stands a small table with computer and printer/scanner/copier with wireless internet access with up to 50 GB free per week, access speeds up to 5 mbps, and often around 2 mbps. Note, the wireless connection to the internet service provider may be disrupted during heavy rain and snow storms, at sunrise and sunset, and is subject to peak period congestion. Internet access is broadcast to all rooms in the house and from the parking lot down to the lakeside dock via private wifi 802.11b/g home network with wireless access point in the library nook attached to the computer. People with AT&T and Verizon 3G mobile devices will get service at the home, as well as Verizon 4G LTE devices, which provide the fastest download speeds available at the home. In the back of the kitchen is a washer, dryer and half bath. A functional kitchen with pair of sinks, side-by-side ovens, under-cabinet microwave oven, refrigerator, electric range and a large complement of cookware/dishware/utensils allows you to comfortably feed lots of people.

The downstairs houses the spacious master suite with a loveseat, 42 inch TV, private bathroom with bidet, toilet, and shower, and it's own porch for maximum privacy.

Separated from the master suite by a stairway, the large carpeted basement Playroom with games, puzzles and a 61 inch HDTV with VCR/DVD/Satellite gives the kids the perfect place to have their own party and sleeping area for 5 or so friends. Two padded benches and 3 twin matresses on the raised carpeted sleeping level give them a sleepover-style experience. Extra sheets and blankets are available for the benches, or you may prefer to bring sleeping bags for these. The kids should bring their own x-box or other gaming equipment for the TV. The Playroom also features a bathroom with toilet, jetted tub, shower. An extra full size refrigerator/freezer in the Playroom complements the kitchen's refrigerator/freezer when the home is fully occupied. Note that the playroom is converted from a basement, so some 'basement' features are still visible, such as pipes, air ducts, and cement. The Playroom can also be a bit noisy as the home's heater is located in a Playroom closet. The minimum overhead clearance to exposed pipes is 6 feet 5 inches. The playroom is not counted as one of the listed bedrooms in the listing summary.

The upstairs has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with a hallway linen closet. The King room has a King size bed, and bathroom with private bathtub/shower/toilet. The Queen room and Meditation room share a bathroom with shower and toilet. The Queen room and Meditation room with bathroom can together be made into a private family suite by pulling out a pocket door in the hallway. The Queen room has a small desk for a private place to work, and the Meditation room has two twin beds. The Meditation room is not counted as a bedroom in the listing summary. The King and Queen rooms share a private shaded deck to enjoy the afternoon breezes and view.

In between the upstairs and main level there is the home's entryway with coat rack, and bench. Also off the entryway is a door to the small shop, which has a variety of tools, supplies and a work bench for those who need to fix something.

Outdoors the pathways from the street and to the pier at lake level are reinforced with built in steps and sturdy handrails. On the pier are two kayaks and a dinghy (small rowboat) for water fun, with plenty of lifejackets for water safety. A storage bin holds the life jackets, deck chairs, boogie boards, and other pier supplies. The pier has a ladder at the end and a steel stairway on the side leading to the water. There is also a hand-cranked winch (davitt) with boom, rope and pulley to make launching and retrieving the dinghy easy for adults and teenagers. The metal stairway doubles as a ramp to slide a kayak in or out of the water.

There is parking for up to 3 cars at street level. When parking three cars, it is very tight, and the car on the right should avoid scraping the small boulders that line the right edge of the parking lot. When parking 3 cars, no more than 1 should be a large wide car like a suburban. All other parking on the street is private and limited. El Dorado County Transient Permit #1648.

About Ellen Marshall

Passed down to the five children of the original owners Andy and Mary Beth Marshall, we enjoy, maintain and protect this wonderful home. We are scattered all over California from San Diego to the San Francisco Bay Area, to the Central Valley.

Ellen Marshall purchased this house in 1967

Why Ellen Marshall chose Lake Tahoe North Shore

There are many reasons to choose this property for your vacation including:

- Private pier on private lake front (not shared with a homeowner's association)

- Close-in buoy makes it easy to get to your boat

- deep water at dock (pier) is relatively hazard free and easy to navigate to for power boats, especially at low lake levels.

- Uncrowded section of Lake Tahoe compared with Tahoe city and South Shore

- Many living spaces in the home for a relaxed, comfortable stay for small and large families

- Roomy, spacious decks and pier

- Sparklingly clear waters with beautiful sand/rock lake bottom (property shoreline is bouldered with no sand)

- Swimming off the dock

- Off-shore summer prevailing winds provide best water at Tahoe for water skiing and wake boarding

- Family can watch skiers and wake boarders from the main deck

- Lots of day excursions available year round

- 20 minutes walk to Meeks Bay Beach

- Boat to Meeks Bay, Sugar Pine Point State Park, Bliss State Park, Emerald Bay Vikingsholm and Tea House, Pope beach, Baldwin beach

- Fine dining recommendations: West Shore Cafe, Sunnyside Resort, Chamber's Landing, Jake's on the Lake

- Snow skiers: Homewood Mountain Resort 6 miles; Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows 20 miles. Sledding nearby across the highway.

- Cross Country skiers: Meeks Creek 1.5 mi, General Creek 2.5 mi, Sugar Pine Point / Ehrman Mansion 2.5 mi, Tahoe Cross Country Ski Area 15.5 mi

  • The kid's bed/playroom has 3 made up beds each on a twin mattress without bedframe on a raised, carpeted sleeping area. It also has two padded benches which can also be used for sleeping in a pinch. The playroom was converted from a basement and still has some elements of a basement, such as exposed concrete on a wall, visible overhead pipes, and visible heater ducting. Headroom to the lowest pipe is 6'5' - people 6'5' and taller in their shoes will need to duck. The playroom can be a bit noisy in fall/winter/spring when the heater is running at night. The heater is in a closet in the playroom. The Twin Room, Queen Room, and shared bath room can be blocked off into a separate living area by pulling out a pocket door in the hallway. This might be useful for a family with small children that wants to make a combined living space separate from other guests. The Meditation Room is a former sewing room and can sleep two adults on twin beds.

Beautiful Family Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay in this beautiful lake front cabin. We had a blast with our married children and granddaughter. There is plenty to do and enjoy right at the cabin. I love that the kitchen and family room is large enough for everyone to gather to eat, play games, and watch the Olympics. But I also love that there are enough rooms for everyone to enjoy their privacy at night. We look forward to coming back in a few years.

Perfect Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

The pictures do not do justice to the property. The house was perfect for us and our adult children and grandchildren. We had a fabulous time with plenty of room for everyone. The house is well equipped for for activities like kayaking or boating. Nothing beats being on the lake with your own pier. We love being in Rubicon Bay area of Lake Tahoe. We highly recommend this vacation home.

Completely mesmerized!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Although the pictures listed are accurate, they do not do the beauty of this place justice. The house had everything we needed for our stay and made us feel right at home. There are many things to do in the area but nothing beats having your own pier, I definitely recommend this property

Perfect Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family and I recently stayed at this beautiful family home, and couldn't have had a better time. Nestled in gorgeous Rubicon Bay, the house is the perfect retreat for families to find some quiet time to relax and enjoy each other's company. The Marshall Family were incredible hosts, having provided everything we needed for a successful stay. Having now stayed there, it's very clear the house holds special meaning to the family, and really motivated us to treat the property as our own. I would absolute recommend renting this house, and enjoyed working with the owners.

We celebrated our 5 year anniversary with family and close friends at the Marshall home in August 2015. It was a truly wonderful experience: swimming and kayaking off the dock, lounging in the sun, and big family-style BBQ's on the deck at night. The house is well-conceived with great common space for all, yet plenty of available privacy if you need some quiet time away from the party. The Marshall's were prompt with communication and everything inside the house was clearly explained and mapped out which made settling in quick and easy. The house is very close to incredible hiking and conveniently located near enough to conveniences that going out for groceries isn't a half-day adventure. We use VRBO frequently and highly recommend the Marshall House -- an all-around wonderful vacation experience.

Lovely Lakeside

  • 5 of 5

I just returned from a lovely week at the Marshall family home. My extended family selects a destination area each summer to spend time together and this was a perfect spot! The home is so well appointed with everything anyone might need and many things that are unexpected and very appreciated in a vacation rental. The location is conveniently located to both South Shore and popular West Shore activities and restaurants. After a full day hiking or swimming and kayaking out on the large dock on the lake, our evenings were spent around the dining room table playing board games or watching baseball. We enjoyed reading about the Marshall family and looking at the many family photos around the house. It is obvious that this is a special place, filled with lots of wonderful memories. Thank you for letting us add to that history.
