The Vista at Shipwatch
A beachfront rental with a sweeping view of the Atlantic Ocean, this one-bedroom/one-bath villa is the perfect place to sneak away with your loved one for a romantic weekend or longer.
For Late Mornings and Fun-Filled Days
Drenched in rich colors and outfitted with sumptuous bedding, don’t be surprised if you have the urge to linger in the bedroom late into the morning. With an antique reproduction Tuscan bed, exquisite bedding and memory foam topper mattress, the room is both comfortable and beautiful.
Your private balcony opens from the bedroom, so feel free to step outside and watch the beach awake from its slumber with your first cup of coffee – or second or third cup – in hand.
The bathroom, appointed with a wide, 2-sink vanity topped with granite, awaits when you need to rinse sand from toes or prep for a night out on the town. No detail is left untouched with the Tuscan-tiled tub, original art and framed mirrors.
Make your way into the quaint kitchen to craft a meal you’ll both remember.
Whether you’re putting the finishing touches on a favorite seafood dish or trying your hand at a new, elaborate creation, the Vista’s kitchen lets you cook in style with granite countertops, Tuscan tile floors, a farm sink and an oversized bar facing the view.
Get cozy in the Vista’s living room, which is punctuated in high-tech details and designer décor such as a 50-inch Samsung television and fully stocked DVD and book library. Relax on the sofa for an evening in, and make sure to take advantage of the 2 swivel rockers, which are placed in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows.
An Elevator Ride from the Beach
When you’re ready to venture out and create memories from this special destination, simply ride the elevator right to the beach, where you can spend the day splashing in the waves or walk hand-in-hand as the setting sun paints the sky at dusk.
Beyond the beach, take your time over a long dinner at a nearby restaurant, pop in and out of the local shops, check out the Kiawah golf courses or take a day trip to historic downtown Charleston, located just 30 minutes away by car.
Of course, all getaways need to come to an end in time, but for a short while, The Vista at Shipwatch promises to be the ideal hidden retreat from the moment you check in to the last footprint you leave on the beach.
About Property Managers, Shawn and Jeanette Lawson (Kiawah Island Getaways):
Shawn's family discovered Kiawah in 1978 and returned year after year for two-week vacations. In 1985 we drove our VW Bug convertible to Kiawah and Shawn introduced me to Kiawah. I remember stepping over the dune boardwalk out in front of the Kiawah Island Inn and seeing Kiawah's wide, sandy beach for the first time - it was so brilliant it practically danced before my eyes. It was during this vacation that the two of us decided to set our sights on moving to this beautiful and fascinating place permanently.
In 1988 our dreams came true and our U-Haul rattled across the Kiawah Island bridge (at that time it was nothing more than a wood-planked bridge). For the next four years we rented a 1-bedroom villa, 4251 Mariner's Watch. Shawn was so thrilled to be living on the island that he applied for the personalized South Carolina license plate 'KIAWAH' (which we still have today).
In 1992, we built our first home on the island at 134 Conifer Lane. During construction, I gave birth to our first son Benjamin - he arrived 2 months early in an ambulance outside of the Kiawah Island Fire Station.
In 2001, we purchased our first villa, a 1-bedroom, beachside Seascape and Kiawah Island Getaways was born. Once we got our feet wet with the villa rental business, it was a like a fever for us. We both really enjoyed furnishing, decorating and maintaining the villas - not to mention the new found fun of meeting and talking to all sorts of people about Kiawah. Because we really enjoy what we do, other Kiawah property owners noticed and we started managing their properties as well.
Our whole family loves Kiawah and running Kiawah Island Getaways is a true family-run business. We personally prepare each villa prior to your arrival - because we want your stay to be perfect. We want you to fall in love with Kiawah too...and we know you will.
With a chilled glass of chardonnay in hand, the gentle tumble of waves in the background and breathtaking ocean views from the deck of your Kiawah Island vacation, let a magical moment take over.
We stayed in your Vista villa the week of July 5th-12th, and had a wonderful vacation. Kiawah is definitely somewhere we would return to, and your villa surpassed our expactions. My husband couldn't get over how well stocked the villa was, anything you need was right there. Your attention to detail is impressive. The supplies, the decor, the views, the location everything was top notch. Literally the only problem the entire week was the fire alarm for shipwatch going off for hours late into Friday night. Hopefully that was a glitch that they were able to fix.
Thanks for providing such a fabulous spot for vacation.
We have stayed at the Vista (Kiawah Island Getaways) many times over the years, and again this year in late August. As usual, it was wonderful. The Vista has a perfect ocean view that includes pelicans flying by the balcony every evening and often deer grazing down below. Ocean access is just down the elevator and onto the boardwalk to the beach. The owners are very helpful, and provide everything you might need for a perfect vacation. The unit is very clean and has everything you will need in the kitchen.
This lovely beachfront condo has a glorious view of the beach and ocean that can be enjoyed from the comfort of an arm chair in the air conditioned living room,, a chair on the balcony, or lying in a comfy bed. It's almost tempting to just stay in the condo and look out, but of course we did not do that! The beach is too good for walking and biking and sitting under an umbrella to do that!
The condo is elegantly appointed and had everything we needed, including a notebook of helpful information about activities and dining recommendations.
We did not want to leave and we want to go back soon!

Superb getaway for us "newly minted empty nesters" experiencing our first getaway as a couple in 28 years after raising our family. The accommodations were unequaled, compared to any resort where we have vacationed the past 28 years. Leave your bedroom sliding door open and fall asleep to the ocean breeze. Awaken every day by the sunrise over the beach - leave the bedroom drape open! Go to Bohicket for dinner at Red's and the sunset over the marsh. Dine casual or nice at so many places. Just a 1/2 drive from Charleston to spend the day touring, shopping and dining. Bike, and walk, on a virtually secluded beach for miles, or through the island on the bike path. Be sure to use the binoculars from your ocean view porch to see porpoises diving in and out of the ocean. You will see a family of deer in the brush right under your porch.
The villa was absolutely perfect! The ocean views from the 4th floor along with the well decorated and comfortable condo made it a great vacation choice. This was the second time we rented this particular villa. The owners make sure that everything you need is there. It's the perfect retreat for any couple.
Great Condo on Kiawah Island! Very comfortable and everything we needed was provided. Owners were very responsive and made the rental process easy. Beach is tranquil and private. Wonderful views from the porch. Unfortunately it rained for most of our short trip, but we still enjoyed our getaway. We hope to return soon!
We arrived to find the condominium prepared for our arrival. The views from the floor to ceiling living room windows was incredible. From it we watched a pod of dolphins frolicking and feeding near the shrimpers that frequented the horizon. The furnishings were excellent and it was great to have bath sheets and good linens instead of the standard fair offered at the resort. The Shipwatch Villas are located such that this property had a view to the east, up the beach. Access to the beach was easy and with our visit being in November we had the beach nearly to ourselves, despite the good weather. We recommend this property to any couple looking for a romantic setting and privacy. The property was clean and well maintained. Shawn and Jeanette provided us with recommendations for dinner, shopping and even recipes for low country cooking. When in Kiawah again, we will definitely try to book this specific property!
