We are a quiet fun loving couple living on a property we acquired in 1981. Our property mirrors our interest in the beauty of life. We have extensive gardens with many comfortable areas to sit and take in the plants and creatures that call our land home. We have a swimming pool which we offer our guests to share with us during the warmer months when it is a delicious temperature. Our swimming pool is not enclosed. Because of this, we do not accommodate children. Our swimming pool is solar heated. Pete's Retreat is on our property and is located next to our home. There is approximately 20 feet between Pete's Retreat and our home. All of our guests have felt quite private and separate. We are the only people who live on the property and where we live is rural. We live in a 2-acre minimum neighborhood and we are backed by a 5-acre minimum area. It is quiet and private. We invite our guests to share our property with us.
Ana Renkow purchased this bungalow in 1981
We enjoy living in a beautiful rural town surrounded by nice people.
Peaceful tranquility in a busy world is what we offer our guests.
Our next-door neighbors got tired of their rooster cock-a-doodle-doing at all hours so they gave him away. We no longer have rooster sounds!
Loved Petes Retreat! Thoroughly enjoyed the accommodations and the location was perfectly situated near Russian River, ocean and sonoma wineries! Ana was a tremendously gracious host...so appreciated the coffee, hot tub and wonderful recs!!! We will definitely come again and recommend highly!!
We spent two nights at Pete's Retreat. Ana is very nice and friendly and welcomed us when we arrived.
The location is nestled away from busy streets but the location is close enough that we had no trouble touring wineries and the Farmer's Market. The property is cozy and clean. We were not left wanting for any amenities (okay, a stove would have been great but we knew that going in). The bbq was very welcome (clean and in good working order).
We especially liked the ice packs and could have used the large cooler that was provided.
We recommend Pete's for wine tourists!
We have now stayed several times at this little cottage. It is adorable and our favorite in Sonoma County. This was our first winter stay and only for two nights. It was raining and a bit stormy. Lounging in the hot tub with a glass of wine was great. Due to the rain, we were not able to spend much time on the deck. We already knew the deck and BBQ were sheltered, but were pleasantly surprised to discover we could cook without getting wet. The cabin stayed quite toasty. While watching a DVD movie in the loft area (the first time in all of our trips we even turned on the TV) we even had to turn the heat down. The updates since our last stay are all great! We love this place. In closing, we are already looking forward to our summer stay!
Our grown daughter was participating in an annual event in Cazadero called California Brazil Camp for two weeks. Because of a health condition and allergies to pets, she is unable to "camp out" with the rest of the attendees who stay there to learn advanced Brazilian dance and music...so we rented the very clean Forestville Guest House originally for just two weeks. But when the camp ended, one of the main instructors from Brazil had another event down in Berkeley the next week and we extended our stay up to a full 22 days so our daughter could commute to more Brazilian dance classes. Our daughter stayed in the loft area on a comfortable futon while my wife and I stayed on the queen bed downstairs. The kitchen and bathroom were well-stocked and had useful appliances. There is a nice propane gas grill located on a redwood deck that served as our main cooking appliance for grilled burgers and chicken. Although I never used it, the grill has an easy-to-use single gas burner you could use with a pot or pan. We kept the washer/dryer going almost full time and it worked well although there is a learning curve on how to use it. The shower was very nice and powerful (unlike most places these days). But for us the "star" was the whirlpool/hot tub out on the deck. You can lie back in the whirlpool and look up at the branches of a tall redwood tree during the day. At night our daughter was able to soothe the aches and pains associated with all day and night samba dance practice when she finally showed up sometime after midnight on many evenings. There is a beautiful pool as well which we did not use as it was much easier removing the lid on the whirlpool than the cover on the larger pool. Because the owners were away on a camping trip most of the time we were there, they allowed us to harvest fresh heirloom tomatoes, peppers, squash, pears and even a water melon from inside or near their greenhouse. Because of the loft, the 400 square foot space felt a lot larger. We spent a lot of time at the table on the outside covered redwood deck listening to noisy squirrels warn off other critters (including us) from a nearby tall cedar tree a few feet away. There is internet available via WI-FI. The owners added an extender for it while we were there that greatly improved the signal after we mentioned the signal was weak inside the guest house. We would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this property. It's in the heart of Sonoma wine country and the Russian River resort area. Very quiet too.
My partner and I stayed here for a weekend while we attended a nearby festival. We truly enjoyed the privacy and seclusion offered by this hideaway. The spa was very relaxing and we attempted to swim in the pool, but never had the opportunity. Everything was easily accessible and ready. Ana and Peter were very attentive, without being overly present and even let us use their rice vinegar to complete a recipe! We were even able to arrange for a late checkout, which was perfect! We would stay again and recommend these accommodations to anyone that was looking for peaceful scenery and a romantic, private location wrought with opportunities for relaxation.
Sonoma County's location has made it the most perfect place for making fabulous wines. Visitors can expect a wealth of opportunities to visit vineyards, stop by wineries and wine tasting rooms ... and to enjoy the 'fruits of our labor' here in one of the most picturesque wine country regions in the world.
Most travelers fall in love with the Russian River’s meandering course as it flows past river towns and ancient redwoods to Jenner, where it empties into the sea. Kayaking, canoeing, swimming, inner tubing, fishing, rafting and sunbathing are favorite river pastimes. You can usually spot harbor seals and shy, cow-eyed pinnipeds at the mouth of the Russian River at Goat Rock State Beach near Jenner.
