Thank you to Kelley, an absolutely amazing host. Her welcome letter was extremely helpful and we found the spot secluded, yet convenient. The house is cozy with west facing windows and by the afternoon, the house had a comfortable warm glow. The ocean view is lovely too. The kitchen is well stocked with major appliances and cookware. There is a Bbq, but this less than competent bbquer couldn't get it lit. The hot tub is a nice perk too. There are plenty of towels!
We managed to get to the stocked pond a short walk away which was fun for the kids. The house is pretty well child-proofed as we have a 16 month-old and felt it was safe. There was a pack and play too! The bay windows were nice for him as he could see the ocean view and the local deer in our yard.
We hit point arena pier and lighthouse ($7.50 per person, $5 for kids). If you enjoy fishing, the pier has some of the best and it is a beautiful pier. I heard late that there is a world renowned French bakery in point arena called mamma's(?) A couple ladies came from France to open this spot so apparently a must try. There is a pharmacy and gas station in point arena (10 min) and a hospital (1- 1.5 hrs) in Fort Bragg which I thought was good to know since we experienced the ER on this trip. The local market is actually pretty decent and is only 4 miles away!
We had to leave early due to a medical issue and Kelley was extremely caring and accomodating during that difficult time for us. She was kind enough to credit back the days we missed. The time we had was wonderful and we hope to make it back.
If you're looking for a comfortable retreat, rent this lovely home overlooking Irish Beach. It is an easy place to kick back — a warm, cabin-like atmosphere with beautiful coastal views and all the comforts of home. We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub, grilling up some "shrimp on the barbie", and taking walks along the gorgeous private beach. An excellent value, and the owner is more than nice. ~Allen and Arli Quesada
We recently returned to Irish Beach with our family for Spring Break. What a treat, we stayed as the guests of Kelley and thoroughly enjoyed the accommodations. The hot tub was wonderful and we managed to BBQ every night. The view is lovely and the front room was the ideal place to sit in the morning enjoying breakfast. We enjoyed how well the kitchen was equipped and ate at home every night as having a baby and going out is not always that convenient.
All in all a very successful stay at a very clean, well organized house. Thank you Kelley, we would love to return someday!
You can't miss with the beauty of this home's locale, not to mention how well-equipped it is. Hot tub under the stars? Big deck with bar facing the sea? Cozy rusticity with all the civilization you'll need? Yes, please! Owners Kelley and Shannon are responsive and kind, and private, dog-friendly Irish Beach is simply divine.
The Karagatan home was wonderful ... the house was clean, and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay for three nights ... a well equipped kitchen for meals, comfortable beds, a wood burning fireplace for warm cozy evenings and a hot tub to enjoy the starry nights, all with the background sound of the surf and creek! The views of white water from the deck, living room and dining room was better than in the pictures! We enjoyed staying around the house one day, when the rainy weather arrived ... it was fun watching the storm come in over the ocean. Irish Beach had miles of sandy beach, without all the people. This is a great location to enjoy the quieter areas of the California North Coast ... be sure to check out Queenies in Elk (the food is delicious!) Kelley, the owner, was so easy to work with. We will be back again soon!
We have stayed at this house before several years ago. It has a great layout, lovely views, and superior location compared with other homes in the area. The hot tub is situated such that you have privacy from being seen by neighbors, yet still have optimal view of ocean and forest. There are currently, however, some down sides. The window blinds have been removed (brackets are there, but no blinds anymore) in the bedroom that faces the ocean, so if you are sensitive to light, you will be up with the sun and the moon, plus the neighbors have full on view of you. The deck furniture needs to be taken to the dump and replaced - fabric is torn, metal parts are broken. Ditto with the grill - inside parts of the grill have disintegrated and one side of the grill does not even work. Internet password code on the information sheet given by owner is incorrect - correct code is on a post-it on the fridge (very frustrating to discover this days after arriving). The tv setup is circa 1995 - took a day to figure out the dvd player is located on the backside of the tv - it is NOT the one readily seen from in front, which is disconnected from the tv in back. No present day instructions to be found - everything relates to some previous system. Instructions which say "use black remote" when there are four black remotes is not helpful! Washing machine was not working (owner advised us of this the day we left on the trip). A week and a half after the trip and we are still waiting for our credit card deposit refund. If these needed updates were remedied, I'd give the house 5 stars.
