Cute and quiet getaway in a secluded setting.
Launch your boat or PWC one block away and use your own private dock. Have coffee on the deck and watch the sun come up and wine in the evening watching the awesome sunset. Enjoy a campfire at night while listening to the gentle sounds of the water. Very relaxing atmosphere yet central to all Houghton Lake has to offer. I have been coming to the Houghton Lake area for many years to snowmobile and do some boating and it has kind of grown on me I think people who have never been to the area will be hooked once they experience everything there is to do.
A great place to stay! we had a girls weekend there and it was great the sunsets were beautiful and it was a nice place to swim! Will go back!
As parents of two young boys (6 & 2) my wife and I searched high and low for an affordable family destination where we could have fun, build family memories, and not stress out with every meal and nap time. Lucky for us, we live in Michigan, and found this great place to stay!
The two bedroom cottage was clean, well stocked with kitchen utensils, and steps from shallow water that my boys loved to swim, fish, and boat in. The sloped cement sea wall was easy enough to step down, and there is a beach at the hotel right next door for easier lake entry. The dock was perfect for sitting on, fishing, and when we rented a pontoon boat nearby, we were able to pull right up to dock whenever we needed. The included gas BBQ was practically new, and saved me from the long wait of charcoal when I was ready to cook. (Unfortunately it was completely out of propane when I got there, but there are multiple places that exchange tanks in the area.)
The bedrooms both have decent beds, with one room sharing a corner with a small hot water heater and electrical box. (We opted to take that room to keep the kids from touching them.) A ceiling fan in each room and an oscillating fan helped us stay cool in the 90 degree heat. There were some towels, blankets, pillows, etc... but we brought our own to avoid having to visit the local laundry mat before leaving. The futon couch and recliner were a great way to relax or take a nap, and the included Cable TV with DVD/VHS was a nice distraction when the kids needed some down time.
The town in Houghton Lake was a little more spread out than most tourist towns, but we found some great restaurants, local shops, mini-golf, boat rentals, and even a Wal-Mart and Glens to stock up on groceries.
If we decided to return to Houghton Lake as our family vacation next year, we'd definitely stay here again!
The owner was extremely easy to deal with and was lightening fast with email responses and the return of my security deposit.
Excellent couples get away.We enjoyed 5 nights of comfort and much needed rest. The owner was excellent to work with - always responding quickly to our questions. The cottage was clean, well equiped, and well maintained. It would be easy to recommend this property. We enjoyed sitting on the dock and watching both sun rises and sun sets. The fire pit was used every night. There was a marina close by that we rented a pontoon boat and enjoyed for 1/2 day at a very reasonable rate. The leaves were brilliant colors and added to the beauty.
This cabin is an ideal setup for a couple or small family. Also very nice if you have a boat as there is a private dock AND a boat hoist. The cabin is very well maintained and was comfortable for our family of four. We had a great time and would strongly recommend this cabin to anyone. Todd was very easy to deal with.
My family stayed at this wonderful cottage on the lake in July 2012. The cottage had plenty of room for our family of four. The home was nicely stocked with all cooking utensils that we needed. The large, new, gas grill was very nice also. The owner of this rental is exceptionally helpful and easy to work with. We loved the fact that he was very quick to respond to any questions we had and helped us plan our trip as we had never stayed on the lake before. The cottage sits right on the water's edge. An amazing view!! We had our coffee on the deck each morning and a campfire each night. The private dock was great for our boat also. A very memorable vacation!! Perfect setting for the perfect lake get away!

We would stay again. The cottage is very cute, and very clean. Knotty pine walls, with new floors. We liked that the dock was within a few yards of the front door, and on the same level. There is no AC, but it was in the high eighties during the day and yet comfortable inside. I think the best fishing spot is right out front. The location is in the middle of everything, yet you are down a hill, away from traffic noise. Todd is easy to deal with and very helpful. This place was perfect for us.
