Overview

About the property

House, 6 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 5.5 Baths, (Sleeps 18-21)

Welcome! Beautiful river and mountain top views on a large secluded country estate; this is the ideal venue for family reunions, Christian retreats, business gatherings and vacations. Nestled on 20 private acres, it is only ten minutes from Skamania Lodge and the downtown main street area.

Spectacular views of the Cascade Mountain range, the Columbia River, Bridge of the Gods and an old family fruit orchard are revealed as you drive down the private gravel lane to your home in the trees. The house was built for a large family and offers 4800 sq. ft. of private and common family style areas. Exposed Douglas fir ceilings, three wood burning fireplaces, a large wrap around deck and expansive viewing windows are special features.

The main floor offers a fully equipped kitchen along with an open dining and family area. The large farmhouse table seats 10-12. Two other 8' folding tables are available for large gatherings. A separate living room has comfortable couches and a baby grand piano. The laundry and two bathrooms are on this level.

Upstairs are 5 bedrooms and three baths. Two of the bedrooms offer queen beds, two others have extra long twin beds. The fifth bedroom has a double bed. There is also a small reading den and conversation/ loft area that is a nice place for quiet time or that can be used as the '7th' bedroom. Downstairs, one queen bedroom has outside and drive-up access. The large recreational space in the basement can be used for large group functions that can spill into the spacious backyard in good weather. A ping-pong table is fun for inside play. Other sleeping accommodations include portable sleeping pads and mattresses for use on the floor. Two large, separate rooms with bathrooms close by work well for this arrangement.

World class windsurfing, water sports of every kind, mountain and waterfall hiking trails, wineries, scenic drives, museums, golfing, river cruises and a range of dining choices are just some of your many options for recreation and entertainment in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. Come and see!

About The Owner

Hi! We're Paul and Ann DeBolt. Our short story: married 35 years, raised 4 children, 3 grandchildren and are eagerly looking forward to retirement! :-).

The Owner purchased this house in 2008

Why The Owner chose Stevenson

We grew up in the Stevenson/ Wind River/ Carson/ Gorge area where everyone knew everyone's family name. While the area has come a long way from the sleepy little logging burg it once was, it still has the same small town atmosphere where you greet the sheriff, the banker and the grocer by first name. We like that.

Paul has sailed in far flung waters around the world through his work in the maritime industry but the Pacific Northwest has always been our home.

We've always loved the unique rugged beauty of the Columbia Gorge and the many opportunities for experiencing nature up close and personal. Paul loves to hit the trails with his boys for day hikes up Star, Table and Hamilton Mts. (to name a few) while 'back at the farm' I'm debating whether to cook up a rhubarb pie or just daydream with a good book. Summertime is for old-fashioned family picnics, local swimming holes, blackberry and huckleberry picking, scenic drives, wineries and just plain kicking back and watching some breathtaking sunsets.

The Gorge is really one of those few remaining vacation secrets out there. A special place. We feel fortunate to be able to share our big family vacation home and hope that you'll come back to visit often!

We were a group of 14 fraternity brothers from Oregon State's Class of 1965 that gather every two years in a different location to remember and re-live our college days and to catch up with each others lives the past 24 months. We have been doing this now for the better part of 20 years. When I came upon this property on VRBO, I just knew that I had "struck it rich" as it would be perfect for our group. Plenty of beds & bathrooms, adequate kitchen, dining & living room. Very clean all over with more kitchen items than anyone would ever need. We all had just a wonderful time and all the "brothers" complimented me in picking such a super place. Ann DeBolt was just a delight to work with as well.

Beautiful and spacious property!

We had a wonderful time celebrating family at our reunion this summer and loved everything about this location and rental home! There were 19 of us (11 under age 18), and we had plenty of bedroom and bathroom space. The kitchen had everything we needed and enough room for all of us to have a meal together. The kids enjoyed playing out in nature, and the adults had quite a few competitive ping pong games. We most appreciated how accommodating our host, Ann, was. She worked with us to make sure the property met our needs and was prompt in providing us with information we requested. This home surpassed our expectations and we would not hestitate to stay here again!

Just as wonderful a second time!

  • 5 of 5

We had another fabulous family reunion in beautiful Stevenson. We loved our stay as much as we did last year. When deciding where to hold our reunion it was a unanimous vote to go back to this wonderful home. We love that there is room to have the whole family under one roof. Having so many bathrooms is so great. There was also plenty of room to eat together. The grandchildren loved the huge property to run around and explore and you can't beat the view. We also love that it is so private with no concern about bothering neighbors. We highly recommend this place and, in fact, have done so personally to some of our friends. Thanks, Ann, for everything.

A wonderful locale for our family reunion.

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for sharing your lovely house with our family. What a wonderful venue for our family reunion in June of 2017. Our family of 19 gathered from around the country, including my parents of 80+, and we were blown away by the setting and the accommodations. The view of the gorge was spectacular from the deck. We spent wonderful evenings on the deck visiting while watching the sun set over the gorge. The house fit our family very well with many bedrooms and bathrooms, and with about everything we could possible need. The house was conveniently located in the gorge and we made several excursions to nearby attractions including Hood River, Bonneville Dam, and to several hiking spots. There were activities nearby for all age groups. It all added up to a wonderful time for our family that we will never forget. We definitely plan to return in the future. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Warm and wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Our large family of adult children, spouses and grandchildren enjoyed a wonderful week-end at this roomy, relaxed home with scads of room for kiddos to play hide-and-seek and build forts. There are beds everyone and the kitchen is wonderfully equipped for such a large group. We enjoyed several hikes nearby (Fall Creek Falls in the Gifford Pinchot was amazing!) as well as croquet on the spacious lawns. I especially was comforted w/ the beautiful statue in front & the carving across the large horizontal beam.

Large space with beautiful views!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this large home for New Years weekend 2017, where fresh flowers greeted us on arrival. What a fantastic time we had. There was more than enough space for our group of 15 adults and 5 kids under age 6. The grounds were beautiful and scenic and we were lucky enough to have snow while were there so we could build a snowman and have a good natured snow-ball fight. We didn't need anything as the house has everything little thing you can think you might need. One highlight was the beautiful elk herd that came and visited the grounds each morning. I'm a native northwesterner, but will never get tired of nature. Even though we brought some of our own games, there was a collection already there and we also made use of the ping pong table. We had a range of ages, 4 months to seniors and there was something for everyone. Its only a short drive to the town of Stevenson, where there is a well-stocked grocery store and a great little alehouse, Red Bluff Taphouse that had some great beers. I would definitely consider staying here again and would love to come back and see it in the summer months.
