Overview

About the property

House, 6 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 5.5 Baths, (Sleeps 18-22)

Welcome! Beautiful river and mountain top views on a large secluded country estate; this is the ideal venue for family reunions, Christian retreats, business gatherings and vacations. Nestled on 20 private acres, it is only ten minutes from Skamania Lodge and the downtown main street area.

Spectacular views of the Cascade Mountain range, the Columbia River, Bridge of the Gods and an old family fruit orchard are revealed as you drive down the private gravel lane to your home in the trees. The house was built for a large family and offers 4800 sq. ft. of private and common family style areas. Exposed Douglas fir ceilings, three wood burning fireplaces, a large wrap around deck and expansive viewing windows are special features.

The main floor offers a fully equipped kitchen along with an open dining and family area. The large farmhouse table seats 10-12. Two other 8' folding tables are available for large gatherings. A separate living room has comfortable couches and a baby grand piano. The laundry and two bathrooms are on this level.

Upstairs are 5 bedrooms and three baths. Two of the bedrooms offer queen beds, two others have extra long twin beds. The fifth bedroom has a double bed. There is also a small reading den and conversation/ loft area that is a nice place for quiet time or that can be used as the '7th' bedroom. Downstairs, one queen bedroom has outside and drive-up access. The large recreational space in the basement can be used for large group functions that can spill into the spacious backyard in good weather. A ping-pong table is fun for inside play. Other sleeping accommodations include portable sleeping pads and mattresses for use on the floor. Two large, separate rooms with bathrooms close by work well for this arrangement.

World class windsurfing, water sports of every kind, mountain and waterfall hiking trails, wineries, scenic drives, museums, golfing, river cruises and a range of dining choices are just some of your many options for recreation and entertainment in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. Come and see!

About The Owner

Hi! We're Paul and Ann DeBolt. Our short story: married 35 years, raised 4 children, 3 grandchildren and are eagerly looking forward to retirement! :-).

The Owner purchased this house in 2008

Why The Owner chose South Cascade Mountains

We grew up in the Stevenson/ Wind River/ Carson/ Gorge area where everyone knew everyone's family name. While the area has come a long way from the sleepy little logging burg it once was, it still has the same small town atmosphere where you greet the sheriff, the banker and the grocer by first name. We like that.

Paul has sailed in far flung waters around the world through his work in the maritime industry but the Pacific Northwest has always been our home.

We've always loved the unique rugged beauty of the Columbia Gorge and the many opportunities for experiencing nature up close and personal. Paul loves to hit the trails with his boys for day hikes up Star, Table and Hamilton Mts. (to name a few) while 'back at the farm' I'm debating whether to cook up a rhubarb pie or just daydream with a good book. Summertime is for old-fashioned family picnics, local swimming holes, blackberry and huckleberry picking, scenic drives, wineries and just plain kicking back and watching some breathtaking sunsets.

The Gorge is really one of those few remaining vacation secrets out there. A special place. We feel fortunate to be able to share our big family vacation home and hope that you'll come back to visit often!

Warm and wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Our large family of adult children, spouses and grandchildren enjoyed a wonderful week-end at this roomy, relaxed home with scads of room for kiddos to play hide-and-seek and build forts. There are beds everyone and the kitchen is wonderfully equipped for such a large group. We enjoyed several hikes nearby (Fall Creek Falls in the Gifford Pinchot was amazing!) as well as croquet on the spacious lawns. I especially was comforted w/ the beautiful statue in front & the carving across the large horizontal beam.

Large space with beautiful views!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this large home for New Years weekend 2017, where fresh flowers greeted us on arrival. What a fantastic time we had. There was more than enough space for our group of 15 adults and 5 kids under age 6. The grounds were beautiful and scenic and we were lucky enough to have snow while were there so we could build a snowman and have a good natured snow-ball fight. We didn't need anything as the house has everything little thing you can think you might need. One highlight was the beautiful elk herd that came and visited the grounds each morning. I'm a native northwesterner, but will never get tired of nature. Even though we brought some of our own games, there was a collection already there and we also made use of the ping pong table. We had a range of ages, 4 months to seniors and there was something for everyone. Its only a short drive to the town of Stevenson, where there is a well-stocked grocery store and a great little alehouse, Red Bluff Taphouse that had some great beers. I would definitely consider staying here again and would love to come back and see it in the summer months.

Wonderful destination.

  • 5 of 5

This big comfortable, well appointed house accommodated our family reunion with ease. We had family members from seniors to babies. There was lots of space to eat and play and talk together. Bedrooms were comfortable. Views and location are splendid. Bonneville Dam is a very interesting sight close by. Maryhill Museum and Winery is a drive of about an hour. There are lots of other things to see and do: go to the river in town and watch boats, play the piano, hike, take a walk or just look out over the balcony at the gorge. Landlord was very helpful when questions arose. Would love to come back some time. Such a beautiful spot.

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

Each summer my family vacations with 4 other families. There are 23 of us in all. We've stayed here for the last 3 years and have had a fantastic time. The home is big, clean, and has lots of amenities. Our kids love running around the property playing "kick the can," and "hide and seek." They also enjoy the ping pong table, basketball hoop, and board games. Stevenson is a perfect central spot for lots of adventures nearby. We've gone hiking up and down the gorge, visited Beacon Rock State Park, went swimming, geocaching, etc...Once our kids are older we'll try whitewater rafting and kite surfing/windsurfing. I highly recommend this home for your vacation!

We love it!

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at this beautiful home for our family reunion and had a wonderful time. We had 14 adults and 12 children and everyone was comfortable and happy. The children loved running around the extensive grounds and we all enjoyed the breath taking view. All the bathrooms made such a difference. Our children enjoyed it so much that they said they would like to do another reunion here. Thank you so much for helping make our time so special.

At last--a rental that exceeds the hype!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this property for a wedding/family reunion and were totally pleased to find that all the usual promises about views, space, funtionality, equipment, etc. were actually true. Moreover, the "tone" of the place was accepting and relaxing. For example, the usual list of "don'ts" was minimal--it was as if the owners were appealing to the better angels of our nature by saying "we trust you to use your common sense." Our response, of course, was one of increased care for the property. We definitely recommend it to others, and may well use it again if the need arises.
