About Cheryl Paddock
The best part of being the contact person for the cottages is that I love the interactions with people of every inquiry I receive. Each story is unique and the reasons for coming to LI - anniversaries, birthdays, getting married, or just plain kicking back to relax, are all to be celebrated and I love being a part of it. Many guests we have met and they have become friends to both Barry and I. We always look forward to meeting up again and rejoice when our paths do cross at the same time.
Why Cheryl Paddock chose Clarence Town
From the first moment visiting Long Island and the Lochabar area, Barry and I felt we had found home. The amazing beauty and safety of the harbor, the local people & neighbors who have become close friends and the sea life plus the surrounding vegetation make this the ultimate place to relax or enjoy numerous water sports & activities. The 3 cays in front are accessible by kayak to beach comb for shells, bring a picnic or enjoy solitary pursuits. It also makes the water calm with the amazing colors of turquoise and many shades of blue. Simply amazing!
What makes this Cottage unique
Sea life with turtles & rays plus the birds, butterflies and flowers surround you with their presence to enjoy. The cottage location makes it easy to dine out. There are 2 local restaurants close by that serve Bahamian style meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner and there are several stores within driving distance if you wish to eat in to enjoy the view.

Whistling Duck is a serene peaceful spot with absolutely breathtaking views of the ocean . Listen to the lapping waves at night and enjoy the well appointed cottage by day ! It is truly a gem .
Our Return to Paradise!
This was our 3rd stay at the Whistling Duck and we'll be back again. The cottage is fully equipped with everything needed.
It is in a magical location on Long Island. We had breakfast on the front porch each morning, watching the manta rays and turtles swim by.
The beach is right out front and continues for another mile.
We swam and relaxed and talked to the locals.
Paradise for us and for you should you reserve a stay at Whistling Duck!
Wonderful return to the Duck.
This was our 4th stay in the Duck ( or its partner cottage, the Pelican). It truly is a magical place to watch the world go by and to enjoy the slow pace and lovely people of Long Island.
The cottage was just as pictured and well supplied. I had countless hours of fun snorkeling for sand dollars right in front of property, walking the long stretch of beach around the point and loved showering off in the outdoor shower. Between that, the breeze through the open doors, the view from the porch and peaceful sounds of the lapping ocean just steps away, I'd say this property is absolute heaven. The location is perfect too, convenient to explore North & South, a hop from Deans blue hole, close to supplies and very near the best island restaurant options, Lloyd's and the marina restaurant.
There are three residences on this lot but you have enough separation and shrubbery to maintain privacy.
Not to leave out the owners and property manager couldn't have been nicer. We fell in love and will be back.
Absolutely perfect for our Anniversary getaway!
When we booked this trip we were looking for the total opposite of a stay at a crowded resort on a touristy island and that's exactly what we got. The cottage is beautiful - clean and well maintained, lots of natural light and air, right on the water, and private. It's the perfect amount of space for two people. We fell in love with it - this would be the cozy house we would build if we had property on an island. The views are fantastic and we made good use of both the side deck and the front porch. The owners, Cheryl and Barry are very nice people and in no way obtrusive. They gave us our space but were accessible if we needed anything. If we had been there longer we would have liked to have spent some time getting to know them!
The kitchen is well appointed, which was wonderful because we cooked the majority of our meals at the cottage. We did not use the gas grill but there is a small stone pit we grilled on two different nights. Worked just great - skip the gas bottles and buy charcoal instead. A tip - go to the cottage first and see what provisions have been left behind by the previous guests before hitting up the grocery store.
Nancy is a wonderful resource - very sweet and very helpful! She gave us directions to her house from the airport and then led us to the cottage where she showed us around and answered our questions. She also arranged for fresh bread from the bakery and didn't laugh too hard at us when we showed up on her doorstep the next day looking for directions when we couldn't find the bakery!
The best part about the Island is the people. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. A shout out to Marvin Cartwright (total renaissance man) who took us out on his boat all day. We snorkeled, hunted for shells, swam with the pigs, and fished. He showed us such a great time! We met him at Seaside Village on Jerrywells Road (north of the white church with the red trim make a left and follow the road all the way to the end). Order the Conch Salad, watch the bonefish swim by, and enjoy the company of Kenny and crew!
Great get away from the real world
This is a beautiful little cottage right on the water overlooking a pristine little bay that is perfect for swimming and kayaking. The beach at the cottage is narrow, but it is only a few short steps to an incredible beach that stretches for miles. There are cottages nearby but with foliage and good siting Whistling Dick has ultimate privacy. The view is amazing. The cottage is not ostentatious, but very clean and comfortable with everything you need. There is no television service, but you don't really need one. There is a DVD player. The one downside is that it really isn't walkable to anyplace but the beach. You need a car, for sure. Long Island? This isn't Florida folks. If you looking for manicured lawns, golf courses, shopping and fancy restaurants this is not your place. The island still has serious damage from Hurricane Joaquin over two years ago. If you are looking for adventure, great beaches, quirky and cool eating places, raw beauty, some of the friendliest island characters you will ever meet and a beautiful little cottage right on the water, this is your place.
