Deadmans Cay Airport is final destination for LI to Whistling Duck Cottage.
The best part of being the contact person for the cottages is that I love the interactions with people of every inquiry I receive. Each story is unique and the reasons for coming to LI - anniversaries, birthdays, getting married, or just plain kicking back to relax, are all to be celebrated and I love being a part of it. Many guests we have met and they have become friends to both Barry and I. We always look forward to meeting up again and rejoice when our paths do cross at the same time.
From the first moment visiting Long Island and the Lochabar area, Barry and I felt we had found home. The amazing beauty and safety of the harbor, the local people & neighbors who have become close friends and the sea life plus the surrounding vegetation make this the ultimate place to relax or enjoy numerous water sports & activities.
The 3 cays in front are accessible by kayak to beach comb for shells, bring a picnic or enjoy solitary pursuits. It also makes the water calm with the amazing colors of turquoise and many shades of blue.
Sea life with turtles & rays plus the birds, butterflies and flowers surround you with their presence to enjoy.
The cottage location makes it easy to dine out. There are 2 local restaurants close by that serve Bahamian style meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner and there are several stores within driving distance if you wish to eat in to enjoy the view.
We had the most wonderful time. Your place was perfect for us. We did not want to leave. Especially to come back to this hated weather. Nancy is a wonderful person. You are really lucky to have her. We had a car for the whole time. We went from one end of the island to the other. You guys have the perfect location. Thank you so much. Tom and Barbara
We had a wonderful time staying here! The house was perfect for 2 and had a stunning view of the beach. Nancy could not have been more accommodating by stopping at the store on the way to the house so we could pick up some necessities. We wanted to try the kayak out, but it was a little difficult with the wind! In lieu of that, we spent hours walking the beach. I highly suggest walking around the blue hole at low tide and checking out the other side.....it was like finding a hidden gem. I highly suggest WDC for anybody who needs a relaxing getaway!
First let me say, we needed 2-3 more days there!
The cottage was awesome and perfect for 2 people. We flew into Deadman's Cay and rented a car from Mr. T's. Nancy meet us in Clarance Town and then followed her to the cottage. It was about a 20 minute drive from the airport. We flew Southern Air, pretty small plane but what do expect for flying into a small airport.
The cottage was nicely situated on the water. The property had beautiful landscaping. Included was a tandem kayak. The house was cozy and had all the amenities to cook meals, relax, fast wifi, local phone, and plenty of towels. You don't need to bring your own beach towels.
We ate at Rowdy's, Outer Edge, and Max's. Get the conch salad at Max's. The beaches are secluded and beautiful. We went to Galloway beach, Gordon's (in the south), and Dean's blue hole. Dean's was amazing and a little eerie at the same time. Hey, its 600+ feet deep. We saw sea turtles, rays, birds, goats, and plenty of other fish.
Food was a little expensive but everything comes in on a boat once a week or so. We cooked breakfast at the cottage and one dinner. There are a few grocery stores around and Yukon's Jack
We took the kayak out every morning and went south 10 minutes to a beach.
I highly recommend this place for a couple, honeymoon, etc.
This is a beautiful property, well maintained, clean and just perfect. The views from the porch were great, the water was just steps away. Lots of beaches near by. We relaxed and snorkeled and had a very pleasant week!
Thanks so much!

My wife and I just returned home after two weeks on Long Island, the first week at Whistling Duck. We even saw a Whistling duck! The cottage is set on a beautiful lot on the water, oriented with a view across the water of the Clarence Town marina. The water is maybe 25 yards from the cottage. We saw rays on several days. When we were there, there was no sandy beach where the path stops at the water, just steps down into very shallow, calm water (inches). The beach started 25-50 yards to the south and went on for a mile or more to the end of the bay.
The cottage is just right for two people, right sized and well equipped. We were very impressed with the first class construction and high state of maintenance. Some of the specific things we enjoyed: big refrigerator that could make lots of ice, small Weber gas grill that works well, firm king size bed, fast/reliable wifi, outdoor shower with hot/cold water, glide chairs on front porch for watching the passage of time on the water, ceiling fans, nice decorating, attractive landscaping. It’s just a comfortable place to be, and a good base for exploring the island.
It's difficult to describe how beautiful the cottage and harbor it sits on is. I found myself reluctant to explore the island with such an amazing beach and blue hole just steps from the cottage. Cheryl, Barry, and Nancy were all so helpful and have created something truly special. I know this will not be my only trip to Long Island and the Whistling Duck. Thank you guys for such a great stay!
This was our second stay in Whistling Duck. We spent a week here in January 2014 as well. It is a terrific getaway. It's private and just the right size for a couple. It's well appointed and comfortable, and has everything you need. It overlooks Lochabar Harbor, which is beautiful, and it is an easy walk to a beach, a blue hole, and great birdwatching. You can kayak to three different cays and see rays, turtles and fish along the way. It's a quiet, restful place that you won't want to leave.
Although you can walk to Clarence Town from the cottage (a longish walk), you'll want a car to explore the island, to go out to eat, and to buy groceries, water, etc.
