Why The Owner chose St John

We had visited the USVI on cruises and stayed one week on St. Thomas. After our first ferry ride to St. John, we fell in love with Love City. We have been renting a friend's villa on Pocket Money Hill and when an adjoining lot came on the market, we bought it. We oversaw the construction over a 20 month period and finished in June 2010 with a professional interior designer. Please calll us if your inquiry is not repsonded to in a timely fashion.

What makes this house unique

Unbelievable views of the Caribbean sea. Access to gorgeous US National Park beaches. Extensive hiking system.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My husband and I and my sister and her husband stayed at Villa Amerigo from April 23, 2014 - May 3. We absolutely loved this villa and would highly recommend.

I would also like to give kudos to St John Properties and a special thanks to Andretti. She picked us up at the ferry dock, and brought us to the Villa and showed us where everything is. We felt right at home from the moment we walked in.

The villa is in very close proximity to cruz bay. You can walk there, but we rented a jeep and drove up and down the steep hill.

The lanai has beautiful views of Cruz bay and amazing sunsets every night. The villa is fully equipped with everything you will need. Including soap, shampoo, kitchen staples, beach towels (6), floaties for the pool, beach chairs and coolers, beach umbrella etc. We loved the two master bedrooms with their own en suite bathrooms and indoor and outdoor showers. We used the outdoor shower every day and loved it so much. Bedrooms have AC and TV, which we never turned on. The villa is beautifully decorated with Caribbean charm and is a newer property. We spent most of our time outdoors on the gorgeous lanai with the fragrance of plumeria surrounding us. It was like paradise. The landscaping surrounding the villa is so beautiful and added to the tropical feel.

We ate all of our breakfast in, cooked on the grill for some of our lunches and dinners. We bought tuna from a local street vendor and had a wonderful meal outdoors. We enjoyed seeing the iguana's in the trees overlooking the villa, and even saw them on the pool deck. We also saw a peach faced love bird, heard roosters and goats in the morning. We

enjoyed petting Calypso the villa friendly cat. She stays outdoors, but it very sweet. We fed her each day. Loved playing in the pool on the noodles while enjoying beverages and the incredible views.

The online photos are accurate, but it's actually more inviting and beautiful . You will not be disappointed. We loved Villa Amerigo, and hope to return soon.

Absolutely Stunning!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay on St. John and especially at Villa Amerigo! The accommodations are not only beautiful but so inviting and comfortable. Everything you could possibly need is at your fingertips. We loved waking up each day to the stunning views of Cruz Bay. The private pool is AMAZING! Comfortable beds and the fabulous outdoor showers prompted us to extend our stay once we arrived. The villa's location make the trips to the North Shore beaches quick and convenient. We WILL be back!!

Nice property, property management needs work

  • 3 of 5

We had to move to this villa mid stay, due to issues at our original rental on St John. This rental was very nice, with an updated kitchen and baths, and nice pool. We particularly liked the outdoor porch deck, with all the furniture and the view over Cruz Bay.

There was a bit of an issue with ants, and while I realize this is the Caribbean, I think St John Properties may need to look into a different pest company (based on this and our other rental). Having a few ants isn't the same as dozens and dozens running around, especially when we had nothing out on the counters. It's very nerve racking to worry about ants getting into our son's formula, which can't be purchased on this island. However, it was an improvement over our other rental.

The only other issue we had at the villa was the wifi. After being so communicative with us regarding our villa change, BJ completely dropped off the radar. I called and emailed regarding the wifi, and she never got back to us. I ended up speaking with Andretti who said she would come by and troubleshoot, but she never showed. I received no further communication from anyone from SJP, and we weren't able to connect to wifi once during our entire stay. This was disappointing, as we were using my wifi tablet to look up places to visit, beaches, and food

The biggest reason behind the 3 stars was our dealing with the property management. Besides the aforementioned wifi issues (didn't even seem like they cared, honestly), the housekeeping situation was not very good. While I realize that our mid week switch caused everyone to have to shift things around, we were told that the cleaners would be done by 10. We arrived back at 11:15, and the cleaner and her kids were all over the place. We were trying to put our 11 month old down for his nap, and the little girl ran into our room with the door closed, and the lights turned out. It was very awkward, and they didn't leave until noon.

I would give the villa a solid 4/5. A very nice place, to be sure. For the management, I would give them a 1/5. With the issues we had at our first villa, you would think that they would be available and on top of any additional issues. I realize that wifi and other things aren't completely reliable here, but not responding to numerous attempts at contact and being told someone would be by, and then having nobody show up, isn't acceptable when paying thousands of dollars for a rental.

Deal directly with the owners!

Owner's Response: We are always sad when a guest doesn't have a great time at one of our villas, however we do understand it can be hard adjusting to island living. With over thirty very successful years in the business, we've learned that some people are not cut out for villa rentals, and that some people won’t be happy no matter what we do. I don’t think we could have been more accommodating, but sometimes things happen over which we have no control, and we hope visitors can understand that. I explained to this guest that St. John is experiencing an extreme draught and tiny sugar ants are coming in to everyone's houses for water. Ironically, the two houses he stayed in are on extermination programs with two different companies who both do a great job. I also explained that as the owner of a full service real estate company, I don’t handle day to day details of the rental division but would be happy to help him (when he called on Saturday night), and that he should continue to work with our manager. Nonetheless, he left me another message the next day, that the wifi wasn’t working, so I passed it on to our rental manager, who emailed him and provided the password of the back-up network. She certainly did ‘show up’ (they weren’t in) to confirm the primary network was working just fine. The housekeeper was contacted late Saturday night and got to the house early Sunday morning, as did the guests. She couldn’t get a sitter on such short notice and did a great job. The guests actually told the housekeeper it was no problem for the kids to be there. I’m sad that this guest wasn’t able to relax and appreciate the beauty and charming quirkiness of our little tropical paradise, and I wish him well in future (not tropical) vacations.

When I die, send me to Villa Amerigo!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at paradise on earth last month with our best friends. Pictures can't do this villa justice as it's too beautiful. The whole place was a wow factor. So much thought went into the furnishings. Everything is a beach or island theme which I love. Every day you see something you didn't notice before. The bedrooms are so comfortable, and the outside grotto showers are the icing on the cake. Every afternoon we would sit out on the beautiful balcony patio and watch the sun set over the glorious Caribbean waters. There are so many islands around St. John, and they make a stunning background setting. We spotted iguanas everywhere in the trees that surrounded the property. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could ever want, and it was all in perfect condition. The snorkeling around St. John is some of the best I've seen. I've never been anywhere where you can just walk into the water off the beach and start snorkeling! The fish were spectacular, and we even saw sea turtles. The restaurants were terrific. My favorite for fine dining was Asolare. We also loved the island food at Miss Lucy's and Vie's Shack. We can't wait to return. Wish we lived on the East Coast as we would come often. It was a pleasure meeting the owners. Thank you Alex and Karen for sharing your beautiful home! We will be back.

I have never needed a vacation as much as I did when I arrived at Villa Amerigo. Upon walking into this BEAUTIFUL villa my stress immediately melted away! Everything that anyone could possibly need to have a dream vacation was impeccably placed and the view of Cruz Bay ~ BREATHTAKING‼️ I thought that I had died and gone to heaven. If there was a rating above 5-stars, this indescribably fantastic villa would deserve it. Absolutely Lovely paradise retreat 🌴 ‼️

Heaven here on earth...

  • 5 of 5

Spectacular Villa Overlooking Cruz Bay-Walk to Town.

All I can say is WOW!!! If you are looking for a vacation destination that will delight and amaze you, look no further, Villa Amerigo is Heaven here on earth! The owners have appointed this jewel with the intention to accommodate your every wish and that is exactly what they have accomplished! From the outdoor shower grotto to the refreshing swimming pool, an environment of total relaxation embraces you from the moment you arrive to the regrettable moment of departure. This is my definition of heaven. If a spectacular view is what you crave the breathtaking vistas of Cruze Bay, Pillsbury Sound and St. Thomas will astonish your optics and caress the lenses of your favorite cameras. Next time I’ll bring a media card with a lot larger capacity so that I can bring more of Kinja’s beauty home with me. If I could ask the owners to change anything, I would ask them to change nothing! The energizing walk to town unleashes everything from local sporting events to restaurants, happy hours, even local educational events. If you are looking for one of the worlds top 5 enchanting SCUBA dives, try diving the RMS Rhone, a treasure you’ll never forget. In the balance, Villa Amerigo is an experience that can only be matched by a return trip. I can not wait for my next Amerigo experience.
