About Debbie Tierney

We traveled the East Coast for a year and this was the best community and location. My husband, Mike, does Charter fishing in shore, off shore and near shore and shrimping charters in the summer. In the fall we have a duck and bear hunting business.

Why Debbie Tierney chose Manteo

We built this home for ourselves and when the kids left it was way too big for 2 people. We made every room oversized with lots of separate areas for different activities. We still live right here in Pirates Cove but I sure miss the view from this house.

What makes this house unique

If you have a problem, we're right here to solve it.

Really a great vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 11 had a fantastic week in Manteo. We had plenty of room and the location was perfect. Everyone loved the views of the sound mornings and evenings and the dock was a magnet for the fishermen and women. There is a nest of ospreys close to the dock and we’re exciteted to see the babies take their first flight!

The house is close to the adorable town of Manteo and we loved the restaurant right in Pirates Cove. The Blue Water Grill was our favorite and it was nice to have it so close.

The family has decided they want to do another trip together in 2 years and we may very well go back to the Outer Banks and stay at Debbie’s home.

Lots of rooms but a few hiccups

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for a family reunion and to celebrate my grandfather's 93rd birthday. We had family travel in from Maryland, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and California. With 21 people in the house we felt like there was plenty of space to move around and have time to ourselves if we wanted. 2 living areas with tv definitely, pool table area, and air hockey in the basement definitely gave each to their own. The sunrise each morning was beautiful over the sound in the backyard. We enjoyed it from the dock, back balcony, and even in the sunroom when it started to heat up from the sun. We fished and crabbed from the dock everyday and in the night with the ocean breeze was amazing. We caught a cooler full of crabs almost every night!! By the end of our trip we were crabbed out. Fish was sparse except for little spots but according to some of the experts with us they felt like the water was too warm.

Now some of the hiccups. I would have gave this review a 5 but of course there always has to be something. Not that it would turn us away from coming back but being the coordinator of the trip just some things I had to get an ear full about from each family member. There was only 5 full restrooms for 21 of us but the 2 upstairs were in the bedrooms, 1 downstairs in basement and on the main floor there was one in a room and only one available to use as community. So we had to go to each others rooms to use and I guess it was a bit awkard. The kitchen sink leaked water. Dryer makes some high pitched noise when drying. Not enough pots and pans to cook for a large group, may need to bring extra. Internet was a big ordeal. It did not work the entire time week. Kids of course were going crazy without their electronics, adults who had work to do, and students who had papers all were in a bind and taking turns with a hot spot.

Debbie the owner was very helpful in helping with the internet and the sink issue. She was great at responding in a timely manner and coming to the home to check it out. She followed up with us to make sure things were resolved. She was great and helpful in the entire planning process and helped with all my questions. Pirates Cove the name of the neighborhood also had lots of ammenities that we utilized. Tennis courts. Swimming pool with snack bar and different events at the pool house. Beach volleyball, basketball and fitness center. Beach is less then 10 mins drive over bridge to the pier.

Lovely house in a beautiful setting. Convenient location and very nice area.

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 14 took time off at the Outer Banks after our son's wedding. The house was plenty big for all of us. We had enough rooms to stay and did not feel crowded. There were also plenty to do around the area. The boat dock and crab pot was great. Some of us did exercise on the dock early morning to enjoy the sunrise. We caught plenty of crabs to enjoy during our stay. The pool table was also well used. Owner is easy to work with and responsive. The only minor issue was that they had unreliable internet service. Probably a common issue in the area, The top floor also tends to get quite warm during the day. Otherwise we had a great time and really enjoyed the facility.

Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Rented for extended family vacation. Beautiful home and community. Conveniently located near beaches in Nags Head - Approx 10 minutes. Easy access to community pool. Family members enjoyed fitness center access. House had plenty of sleeping space / beds for our group. Inside in clean and well maintained. Outside was beautiful being right on the water, but still enough back yard to play some games. Owner of home was a pleasure to work with and I would definitely go back again to this location in the future.

Steer Clear

  • 1 of 5

Myself and my husband rented this house with 4 other couples for our friends wedding on Jennette's pier on Friday night. For reference we are 3 dentists, an orthopedic surgeon, and an auto repair entrepreneur (not a group of college kids as we were treated). 3 of the 5 wives were pregnant and we brought no kids. This was your typical 30+ year old outdated rental which I would have been somewhat fine with had my experience after leaving the house not been what it was. This house is also a far cry from "luxury". The rental listing referred to it being 6 bedroom 5 baths. The house in reality is 4 bedroom, 5 baths with a bonus room/basement (with a bunch of beds stuffed in them). The MLS listing for this house also refers to 4 bedroom, 5 bathrooms. This was quite unfair for the 5th couple who had to stay in the dusty/dreary basement. We also found broken furniture (which we were later blamed for), the door handle in the master bedroom was broken so we had to wedge our shoe underneath to keep it closed, old mildew riddled towels. tons of dust (leading to asthma), old beds and a general lack of updating in the residence. We all actually left a day early, staying only 2 nights. When leaving we picked up everything, filled up the dishwasher (left the additional dishes in the sink), consolidated all the trash into a single bag in the kitchen and pulled all of the sheets off the beds.

After our return home I received a very aggressive call from the home owner whom was away on vacation. She accused us of destroying her house, breaking her furniture etc.. She also referred to us as "disrespectful yuppies" (we are all 35-45), who are the ones who typically leave her house in this shape. This statement seemed odd as she also stated in 14 years "NO ONE" had ever left her house in this shape. After repeatedly asking her to stop screaming at me, I offered to cover the cost of any additional cleaners she needed. Again this seemed odd, as the house could have easily been cleaned and ready to see new guest within 2-3 hours with a 2 person cleaning crew. I promise anyone reading this that it was not left in bad shape. You expect a cleaning crew to come in after you and sweep and mop and do the sheets, at least I thought so.

I'm not sure if this phone call was due to a poor cleaning crew who were upset they had to clean or a homeowner angling herself to get more money from us but I would caution anyone looking to consider other accomodations.

Owner's Response: My contract has very simple check out instructions. You take out the garbage, pull the linens and bring them to the laundry room and put the dishes in the dishwasher and run it. I also require if you use the hot tub to keep the water half way up the skimmer so the motor doesn't burn out. If Doctor's wives don't want to pick up after themselves, all they had to do was ask to pay a cleaning fee. Instead they left before their guests and they left all their food and garbage and just disregarded every aspect of our Agreement. Since only 5 couples slept in 10 beds I can only assume not only did they leave before their guests but they invited others from the wedding to stay at my house not knowing what she agreed to in her contract. I also don't have a basement? It's ludicrous to think that 2 people could clean a house this big in 2-3 hours. They never called during their stay to report this gripe list or broken furniture. I never spoke to this woman, only her husband who agreed to pay to clean it up. Once she realized she violated the Agreement she retaliated with a bad review. Then said she would have taken it down if I apologized for calling them out on the mess they left. It's sad but occasionally you get a group like this. Her husband said, "it's like a motel, you just leave and the maid cleans it".

Stunning Houe with Stunning Views

  • 5 of 5

We really loved staying in this house, great for inter generational family events with plenty of space for everyone. We loved sitting on the terrace watching the boats sail by and listening to the waves. Sunsets can be watched fromthe front balcony. Roanoke Island is a great place to stay with plenty of things to do and we enjoyed learning about The Lost Colony as we come from Devon in England where the boat set sail. The Outer Banks were easily reachable for those who wanted real ocean swimming though the sound was good enough for the 'oldies'. On one or two cooler days the hot tub was very popular. We had a really enjoyable week.
