As we got closer to retirement, we decided that we didn't want to be in the cold, rain and snow in British Columbia any longer. Having been to Barra de Navidad many times and loving every moment of it, we decided to move here full-time. Not quite ready to retire totally, we decided to open our casa as a Bed & Breakfast, and also rent out our newly built 2 bedroom apartment. Hope you enjoy it!
One of the things that make our casa unique is the fact that our dock is right on the property, we can hop on the boat to do some early morning fishing, or just cruise over to Mary's Restaurant for a beautiful lunch, also to check the largest fish caught in the regular fishing derby.
From the moment you picked us up at the airport until you dropped us off two weeks later, we have felt cared for and far more like family than guests. Thank you for the dinner, the "1921", the almond croissants, the information on Mexican life, and most of all your friendship. Those marlin did not cooperate! However, we did adore the family pets. You have a place to visit in Cherry Grove, Alberta anytime.
This was our first trip to Barra de Navidad, Mexico. Paradise is so much closer than you think! A short flight into Manzanillo and our host Alan was able to meet us at the airport and drive us the short ½ hour scenic drive to the Casa located on the canals in Barra. Once we got there, our hostess, Karen had a lovely welcome snack of a traditional Mexican favorite, handcut Pico de Gallo and tortilla chips. That and a refreshing drink were exactly the way to start our stay. We were lucky enough to stay in the Canal Room which opened out to the upper Palapa and overlooks the canal. This beautifully appointed room had air conditioning available but it was not necessary as the breezes cool your room perfectly at night. It, like all the rooms each have a full bath in suite, so you never feel like you have to share more than you’d like to. We were shown the other rooms available to guests which were equally lovely and the apartment with its own full kitchen available for rent.
We found that dining out in Barra is affordable, so even though we had a great cooking area in the upper Palapa, we mostly tried different local restaurants and bars. Yes, we even did sunset (time of day) at Sunset (bar), which arguably has the best margaritas in town.
Mornings were delightful. Alan and Karen put out a variety of fresh fruits, granola, and yoghurt each day, along with toasted bagels and English muffins for breakfast. The most difficult part about this time of day was to decide what to do. One afternoon Alan and Karen took us out on their boat and we enjoyed the sights by water. Another afternoon, Alan took Len out in the hills to explore the areas haciendas while Karen and I took in some shopping. Then there were the days we enjoyed reading and napping by the pool. The common areas on the main floor are comfortable and really reflect the owners diverse and exciting backgrounds.
I cannot forget to mention the most gracious of our hosts, Lobo the dog, Diego the cat and McIver the parrot. Our experience at Casa Seafever was restorative and relaxing, just like a newfound home away from home.
We stayed at Casa Sea Fever in Barra de Navidad, in mid January of 2016, and our stay was more than perfect, and the town of Barra is lovely and quaint. Alan & Karen are the most gracious & accommodating host and hostess. We were greeted and in our room upon arrival, they served us traditional Mexican appetizers that were muy bien (very good). Our room was impeccably clean and well appointed on the upper floor adjacent to the terrace overlooking the canal. The common area terrace was a piece of paradise for relaxation where one can rest in the hammocks or BBQ your own meal, covered by a palapa with kitchen facilities. It offered everything one needed for peace and tranquility! Breakfast in the morning was a delight to share with our hosts and their animals, Lobo the dog, Diego the cat, and MacGuyver the bird. We loved the fact that their casa is dog friendly, as our friends brought their little dog along and they made him feel most welcome in their casa.
On the main floor there is another poolside terrace with a palapa and loungers. It was so peaceful there and one can dip in the pool to cool off and feel most comfortable with Alan & Karen in their own living space. The casa is very spacious and very well laid out to access our room on the upper floor.
They cooked us a delicious fish fry dinner poolside under the palapa as the sun set. All in all a wonderful stay at Casa Sea Fever. We will be returning again for a longer stay!
We stayed in the apartment for 2 months! Very clean and well maintained! No issues with water as Alan put a new system in and it worked great! We enjoyed the large palapa and the pool! Karen and Alan are wonderful people and very helpful! I consider them our new friends! We would go back and rent from them again! Maybe next year!!!!! You won't go wrong staying here!!!!!
My husband and I spent 11 glorious days here at Casa Sea Fever in the 2 bedroom apartment. This rental was spotless with a well equipped kitchen and delightful decor all done in beautiful Mexican motif. Our host & hostess accommodated all our needs plus hosting a delicious fresh dorado dinner. This rental is a pleasant 10 minute walk to town and the beach...and great restaurants. We will definitely book another vacation here and recommend it to our friends.
We spent a wonderful 2 weeks at Casa Seafever in a B&B room. Alan and Karen were great hosts with loads of information and suggestions for us. The house is clean, spacious, well maintained and comfortable. We enjoyed the large palapa patio upstairs which had a fridge, microwave, bar b q, hotplate all in good working order as well as bottled water for guests to use. There were two large seating areas in the palapa as well as hammocks and always a comfortable breeze. We enjoyed the canal room which lead to the patio. We kept the screened doors open all the time and didn't feel that we needed air conditioning(which cost extra). Our room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. Never a shortage of bath or beach towels. The pool was clean and lovely, but the area could get crowded if all the guests wanted a swim at the same time. Breakfast was just right for us: granola, fruit, yogurt, bagels and coffee. If you stay here you should be able to walk 10-15 minutes to get to town centre where restaurants and stores are and carry a flashlight at night. We never felt unsafe and took a $3.00 taxi if we were tired. Lots of beautiful beaches to go to a bus ride away. We had fabulous very well priced meals and would return to Barra in a heartbeat. Hint: check that laundry isn't being done before showering. Other than that, good hot water and water pressure (You're in Mexico!!). Enjoy Casa Seafever!
My wife and I have travelled to this area for about a dozen years now and have stayed in a variety of accommodations (VRBO, hotels, etc.). Ourselves and extended family stayed here for ten days in 2015 and from day one, were made to feel that we were imposing on our hosts. Scheduling showers around daily laundry, lectures about power consumption and the use of common property, and extra fees for air conditioning were among daily issues. So much so, in fact, that we spent most of our "pool days" at a neighbouring resort. I'm not sure our hosts should be in the hospitality business and would not return to this property.
