Why Tom & Theresa Gordy chose Bentonville
Like most log cabins, River Woods was a realization of childhood dreams. After all, who hasn't at one time in their life wanted to live in a log cabin? The dream, long slumbering underneath years of stress and "priorities", came alive in October 2004 when we first drove across the Shenandoah River to view the hardwood and pine-covered 5.88 acres that is now home to River Woods. Driving up to the property was like in the 1988 movie Funny Farm, starring Chevy Chase - deer, turkeys, and pileated woodpeckers appearing as if cued by some hidden director. Fall leaves were in full display of color, and no noise could be heard except for the rustling of drying leaves driven by cool gentle breezes. However, this was no choreographed production, only nature greeting its soon-to-be new neighbors. That day, that moment, began a four-year journey of planning, designing and building - making a dream come true.
What makes this Cabin unique
In Nature, Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, "In the woods, we return to reason and faith." And that has become the mission of River Woods - to help people find the quietness in which to reflect on the things that matter most in life. Since its completion in the summer of 2008, River Woods has become a place to relax and reflect upon God's wonderful creation. It has served as a romantic getaway for many couples as well as the base camp for adventure vacations of hiking, canoeing and tubing, mountain biking, horseback riding and marathon running. It has become a second home for families who need an escape from the rat race of our nation's capital. It has served as a place for rest and recuperation for war-weary service members visiting their families while on leave from operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. And it has been a place of solace for families grieving the loss of a loved one. Music groups and writers have used River Woods and the beautiful natural surroundings as a place of inspiration for their songs, prose and poetry. River Woods has served to reunite geopraphically-dispersed high school and college friends and as a place of celebration for engagements, weddings and birthdays. As owners of River Woods, we have greatly enjoyed knowing that our second home has brought joy to so many and look forward to hearing from future guests on what River Woods has meant to them.

Beautiful, well cared for property.
Very peaceful. Beautiful home, comfortable interior. Everything was perfect. My only feedback is better cable and internet connection... that being said, the goal is to unplug, so... it didn't affect our holiday with any level of significance.
Beautiful cabin in the woods
The house is gorgeous and in the perfect setting surrounded by woods. Our kids enjoyed the swings and little teepee and we went on a lovely hike in the Shenandoah River State Park. We’d like to come back when it’s warmer and check out the nearby boating options. Just a note: consider adding window coverings to the master bedroom, it’s a bit bright in the morning!
Wonderful cabin and hosts
On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d rate River Woods a 12, if I could. We had a wonderful long weekend here. Tom and Teresa have gone out of their way to make sure everything you need is right there and easy to use. Really thoughtful touches abound, like labeling light switches and discreetly putting instructions for the fireplaces nearby. The kitchen is fantastic — roomy; good gas range and oven; plenty of utensils, baking dishes, bowls, pots and pans. When we contacted them a few times with questions first about scheduling and then about the cabin, Tom responded quickly and was very helpful. We plan to come back and would recommend this place to couples with or without kids! The scenery is beautiful and the sense of quiet and peace is unparalleled.
Totally amazing getaway!
We loved everything about this cabin. Spotless. Fully outfitted. Great for all ages. Not missing anything. Just bring your food and drink. Close to some amazing sites and experiences. Totally recommend to everyone. We are already planning the summer trip so we can experience the river floating rides. Easy to tell the owners and the housekeeper really want you to be comfortable and enjoy the time away.
This was an awesome property and an awesome stay
From the moment we got there till the last moment departing it was completely awesome. Excellent property, excellent booking, what can I say we definitely like it and definitely would like to tell others what a Great time we had. Wow from the stars at night to the fireplace, the peace any tranquility. This is priceless!
Thank you so much!
So relaxing - didn't want to leave!
Beautiful property, so quiet and so relaxing. The windows and light in the home is amazing, fireplaces (2!) are so cozy. It was the perfect way to unwind with no distractions from our busy life. Our 14 month baby had an equally great time crawling around and playing with the toys that were already here. Close to hiking trails which we took advantage of and remote location, with plenty of privacy. Home was clean upon arrival, everything we needed was already here. We would definitely come again!
