We designed and built Bay Grove as our home in 1994, intending St. John to be our final destination. In 2007 we purchased an abandoned farm in Ponce, Puerto Rico and we now share our time between our two beautiful properties in St. John and Puerto Rico. After purchasing the farm we decided to share our home on St. John with people seeking to relax in the serene comfort and explore the beautiful island of St. John and surrounding outlying islands.
Pam purchased this house in 1994
We travelled to St. John on business in November of 1990 and fell in love with its beauty. We searched the island for the perfect piece of property to build our final destination home. We spent much time sitting on pieces of property at all hours of the day and nite just so we could find the perfect spot. We sat on parcels near the ocean, parcels on both ends of the island, parcels near town(s), and parcels in the woods. We finally found the perfect parcel on the top of Bordeaux Mountain where we built our home nestled in the grove of Bay Rum Trees that exist on the lot. Bay Grove is located on Bordeaux Mountain in the center of the island with easy access to both towns and all the beautiful north shore beaches, and is one of the few lots that actually has a yard with grass! The 1200 foot elevation of Bordeaux Mountain combined with the constant flow of the tradewinds allows the fresh, cool, tropical air to flow through the large screened windows. There is a beautiful sunset view to the south and west over French Cap, St. Croix, and the Caribbean Sea.
We have always enjoyed the coolness of the altitude on Bordeaux Mountain, and the quiet, serenity of our home's location. It's a great place to relax, unwind, and get away from it all. From enjoying the presence of the humming and sugar birds, deer, and donkeys, watching the sunset to the South over French Cap, views of St. Croix and the Caribbean Sea, to star-gazing with the singing croakies at night, Bay Grove is one of our most favorite spots on earth and we are glad to be able to share all the comforts and wonders of Bay Grove with you. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
With a missed flight and 20 hours of unnecessary travel ( our mistake ) Pam Taylor was a light at the end of the tunnel and Bay Grove a piece of heaven for our 8 days on St. John. The wondrous setting, attention to creative detail and efficient flow of the dwelling went way beyond our expectations. We have a renewed appreciation for artistry, stonework and craftsmanship. The photos online absolutely do not reflect the near perfection of what this Bordeaux Mountain Estate offers. Praying to return next year. Heartfelt thanks, Pam♡♡♡♡
My wife and I had the perfect stay at Bay Grove. The location is beautiful, quiet, and serene. The grounds were well maintained, the house spacious and clean, and the outdoor shower is like nothing we've ever experienced. We can't wait to return to Bay Grove next year and thank you so much Pam for your priceless hospitality!
If you are searching for a bright, clean, comfortable, convenient, and peacefully quiet place to stay on St. John, there is no need to look any further. Upon reading the glowing reviews for Bay Grove, my wife and I decided to book it for a week… we could not have been happier with our decision. Our experience from the very beginning was stellar. Having never been to St. John before, we were unsure of the logistics of ferry schedules and locations, Jeep rental, etc. After a pleasant conversation with Pam over the phone, all of our questions were answered, we had detailed directions to the house, and any previous uncertainty was a distant memory.
The property itself is stunning. Centrally located on the island on the top of St. John's tallest mountain, it is a short drive to everything St. John has to offer. The manicured lawn with its beautiful native trees and flowers surrounds the home which boasts high ceilings, an open floor plan, modern kitchen, outdoor shower, and a very comfortable bed. If you like peace and quiet this place is for you, as the only sounds you will hear at night is that of the gentle breeze blowing through the large screened windows. St John is truly one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, and Bay Grove is the perfect place to come home to.
We recently spent a week in St. John, and Bay Grove turned out to be a great location for us! Central to everything, we experienced many facets of St. John that we may not have had we stayed elsewhere. Pam gave us great advice our first night there, so ask her for some tips from a local perspective when you arrive. Very nice, comfortable home that felt like our home away from home for the week. The worst part was leaving when our week was up! Getting homesick for a return visit just writing this.
My wife and I stayed here for the second year in a row and it exceeded our expectations yet again. The property was spotless when we arrived and provide an escape away from any crowds, it was our own personal estate on top of a mountain! The grounds are gorgeous and extremely well maintained. We spent half of our time at the house grilling on the amazing back porch and the other half arguing over who got to use the outdoor shower. Pam provides everything you could need from beach towels to pots and pans or grilling supplies along with a fantastic array of Caribbean spices which was a great perk. I was also completely confident that if anything did go wrong with the property, Pam would be there in a flash to rectify it immediately, she really cares about her guests and wants to ensure you have a fantastic time.
I imagine some people might say," I need a private pool!" but there are beaches everywhere, you can get there in 10 minutes, and I didn't come to the Caribbean for a pool! We spent everyday at the beach but looked forward to coming back and falling asleep to the cool mountain breezes and seclusion away from everything. We have rented other properties on St. John and while all of them had great outdoor areas, Bay Grove stands out for the beautiful interior and the fact that it really feels like your own piece of paradise.
Needless to say I will be back as soon as I can and can't believe there is ever an opening in their calendar.
Bay Grove was very well stocked and comfortable but not a rental that worked for us. The access road and driveway were in complete disrepair which resulted in a flat tire. House too had issues: next door neighbors (teens? College age?) had crazy loud hard rock music playing until late at night, tricky/ iffy door locks, dishwasher was not working properly for entire two week stay. We were disappointed to learn after arrival that property management issues could only be addressed if property owners/ managers were onsite/on island. Not so perfect get away.
Two most beautiful beaches on St. John, Maho and Francis Bays, are a 5 minute drive; hiking trails, Reef Bay, Lamenshure Bay, 2 minutes; wild deer frequent the property. Lots of old sugar mill ruins close by, some recently uncovered, gorgeous for picture taking.
