About Eric & Pat Lampinen

The owners Eric & Pat, grew up in the Detroit area and moved to northern Michigan in 1977. We've lived in the same home for over thirty seven years only a half hour away from the cabin. We love the northern Michigan lifestyle and beauty and wish to share our love of the area with everyone.

Eric & Pat Lampinen purchased this cabin in 2003

Why Eric & Pat Lampinen chose Thompsonville

Betsie River Getaway is centrally located in the Manistee, Benzie, and Lelanau county area, the most beautiful and scenic location in the state. Lake Michigan with it's magnificent vistas, massive sand dunes, and uncrowded beaches are only a few of the area assets. Our inland lakes, rivers, forests, fall colors, and the miles of highway winding through it all with M-22 in particular, infuse the soul with peace and tranquility. A scroll through our ten years of guestbook comments are convincing proof you've found your ideal location. Guestbook comments are available below.

What makes this cabin unique

Betsie River Getaway rests on the bank of the picturesque Betsie River. One of only a few rivers in Michigan designated as 'Wild and Scenic'. This air conditioned cabin interior is distinct with vaulted, beamed ceilings and rough sawn wooden walls. The property is enveloped by a dense canopy of trees that provide privacy and solitude. Deer, woodpeckers, turkeys, and dozens of other creatures call BRG home as well and provide hours of viewing entertainment.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved staying at BRG. Tuesday night we went all out at the Thistle restaurant here at Crystal Mountain. Wednesday we lunched at Traverse City and took the scenic drive to Northport where we spent a few hours at Green Bird Cellars which is Michigan's only certified organic winery. It was amazing! We stopped at Frankfort at the Stormcloud Brewery for two meals and watched the sunset mixed with a storm coming in off the lake. It was breathtaking! Our last full day we conquered the dune hike at Sleeping Bear. Thank the lord for a wonderful place to stay, good bed, and coffee this AM. All parts of my legs needed it.

The workmanship of your home and careful detail is wonderful. Everything was so well thought out. The wood is nearly seamless with nice straight lines. The tile work and lighting is perfect. The deck and hanging lights are beautiful. Thank you for having maps and reference material! I spent two hours bird watching while using the book you left in the basket. It was a little cool a couple of mornings and the gas fireplace was perfect for keeping us warm while we drank coffee and read. We made wonderful memories during our visit which was highlighted by your care. I'll definitely keep my eye on your calendar for winter months to see if we can nab a few days with our older kids to come ski. Oh, I almost forgot, I love the stars around the window and above the table. Thank you so much

Wonderful Christmas vacation cabin!!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our 6 night stay at this beautiful cabin. This was our first family vacation and we live in Florida. We came up for Christmas and for our kids to see snow for the first time ever. There was so much snow we built a snowman in the backyard and went skiing and snowboarding at Crystal Mountain which was right up the road. They had night time laser tag in the snow, archery, horse carriage rides and yummy hot waffles with chocolate! We ended our days at the cabin which were so cozy and warm :) The cabin was super clean and had everything we needed. It was definitely a vacation to remember and our kids had a great time. Also, we seen a bunch of different birds despite the cold weather and turkeys and chipmunks and a deer peeking in at nighttime! We loved it there!

Hickory Corners, MI

Really cute, very clean, and well-equipped/stocked cabin in a quiet, wooded, tranquil setting.

  • 5 of 5

Our 4-day stay here was wonderful. The cabin itself was so clean, well-decorated, and cozy and stocked with absolutely everything we needed for indoors/outdoors. Set back in the woods with the river out back made for a serene setting. Watching the birds on the numerous bird feeders out back was entertaining while enjoying our morning coffee. We very much enjoyed the fires at night inside (nights were cold during our stay) and the fires outdoors at the fire pit, under the stars. We were looking for a place central to areas where we could hike, bike, and kayak and this was the place to be as we were able to do all--biked on trails at Crystal Mountain area, hiked along the Manistee River Trail and kayaked the Betsie River. Being able to store one of our cars with 4 bikes and our trailer with 4 kayaks in the huge garage was a real bonus. Everything offered here has been so well thought out by Eric and Pat!

Also, I was very impressed by the owners' professional but personable communications and prompt replies and the helpful information they provided. I have put this on my list of favorite Up North getaways!

Spent the whole of August 2017 here and were very sorry to leave! We had great weather and saw a lot of this part of Michigan. Nature lovers will adore the cabin, the woods and river. We loved the variety of birds and animals here and were lucky enough to witness the start of the salmon run. Eric and Pat are so welcoming and attentive you cannot fail to enjoy your stay. A most welcome break from the Florida heat for us!

A very special cabin in the north woods

  • 5 of 5

Eric and Pat,

We wanted to share with you about our week at your lovely cabin in the woods. It is truly something special, and we were blessed with mostly beautiful weather during our week. The bird feeders attracted a good variety, and I got a quick glimpse of the Pileated woodpeckers on Sunday before they flew away. My sister joined us for a couple of days, and we spent lots of time on the swingset overlooking the river, sipping our coffee and "catching up". Took a couple trips down the river on tubes, which was beyond excellent! We also enjoyed a great campfire in the firepit on Thursday night, where my sister looked up to see a big Buck in the yard! It was a memorable week!

Owner's Response: We're happy you had a great vacation! The Betsie is a peaceful, beautiful, river without the traffic other northern Michigan rivers experience and we're fortunate to have the variety of wildlife you've described. Deer, turkeys, and even eagles are frequent visitors at the cabin. It's our privilege to have you as our guests and we look forward to having you visit BRG again very soon.
