If you are looking for a beautiful home in a convenient location with six bikes and two kayaks INCLUDED in your rental, then Island Palms Cottage is the place for you! The kayaks are a two-seater and a single and can be used to explore the marsh or the ocean (if calm). We have a few life jackets or you can bring your own. Kayaks can be transported either on top of our 6-person golf cart or using a pull-behind bike cart. Our beach bikes are mostly adult size, but we do have one small bike. Bikes at the beach are easily affected by the salt air, so they aren't fancy -- just functional.
A $300 deposit reserves your week with final payment due 45 days before check-in. If you cancel more than 45 days out, your deposit is fully refundable. The cleaning fee is included in rate. We require that the primary renter who signs the rental agreement be at least 25 years of age and that golf cart drivers be 18 years of age.

We first visited Bald Head Island in 1994 and have been coming back every year because we enjoy spending our vacation outdoors and not in a car. We look forward to the relaxed atmosphere of BHI and all of the outdoor activities. In addition to the beach, we enjoy biking, running, kayaking, fishing, and stand up paddleboarding in the creeks. Our kids love surfing on East Beach. Here is our son paddleboarding in the marsh over New Years.
The Owner purchased this house in 2009
We purchased our vacation home in October 2009 and are thrilled that it has given us so many more opportunities to expolore this beautiful island. We found that we were coming back so regularly and that we always hated to leave the island. The ferry is such a short drive from the Triangle and, once we step aboard, we immediately relax and go into vacation mode -- whether we are going for a week or a weekend.
We love being outdoors at BHI and find that, whether we are traveling the island by golf cart, bike, foot, or kayak, it is much more fun than being in a car for a beach vacation. Having access to bikes and kayaks is also very important to us, and we want our guests to know that they are available for their use at no extra charge. The bikes aren't fancy but, having them including in the rental, will save you a bundle on your vacation. It is also important to us to be able to arrive early and stay late in the day and, when available, we offer this to you as well.
We really enjoyed our week at the Island Palms place. Everything was nice and the weather was not bad, although cold. Our only complaint was that the golf cart did not come with a cover and we froze when we rode around. We were told there was a "Parachute-type" cover available, but it seems in the winter time the cart should be already prepared with an appropriate cover. Anyway, we had a good time and would stay there again.
Our large family spent a week on BHI and loved this home. It is large, comfortable, and peaceful. The owner was quick to respond to my inquiries and very accommodating. Would recommend to friends and family.
This was our 2nd visit to BHI and we came back to Island Palms Cottage. The size and layout is a great fit for our family of four plus a family of three that joined us for part of the trip. The large "kids" room with four bunked beds and a small sitting area (with TV) between has worked out great both times we've rented and was where the kids lived when we weren't at the beach club. The large screened in porch was where the adults lived much of the time in the home and we found this to be a very peaceful and enjoyable place to read a book or enjoy a glass of wine and conversation. The home is comfortably and tastefully decorated and we took advantage of both the two kayaks and the bikes that were available. Kelly was easy to work with and helpful with suggestions on what was happening on BHI the week we were there.
I'd strongly encourage renters to take advantage of a temporary membership at the beautiful Shoals Club and we used this as a big part of our plans every day. The pool facility is great and the location/access to the beach is the best place on the island to enjoy the beach and ocean, in our opinion. We found the club's complimentary chairs/umbrellas by the beach to be a great service and used these every day as well. Having this club available created an ideal combination for us of being able to stay in the quiet comfort of the maritime forest and still have easy pool and beach access (without paying the much higher rates for a cottage close to the beach).
We found again that Island Palms Cottage was a great place to stay on BHI...thanks Kelly!
Family & I are finishing up a wonderful week on BHI. In coming to BHI for over 20 years this house is definetly one of the best every in its price range. The bunk room is a family's dream for housing kids, even younger teenagers. Kitchen is well stocked and the screened deck is great for early morning and evening relaxation. Believe the owner when they say they have a lot of bicycles, beach chairs and beach towels. As before we brought our own (due to being let down elsewhere) only to see that unlike promises made at some other properties this house is as advertised.
Our family loved our time here. We couldn't have asked for more. We used the golf cart, bikes and kayaks daily. The beach is an easy bike ride away. My wife was planning our next trip before we left the island!
