About The Owner

Welcome to our beautiful island and Fishbone!

May its beauty bring you a joyous visit and peaceful stay.

Your hosts, Al & Joan.

Al is known as 'surveyor Al.' He sailed from his home state of NC in the early 80's to become Best-Winters Surveyors on the island. His wife, Joan is an artist and Cranial Sacral Therapist. Her paintings are for sale at the Banzhof Gallery. For Fishbone guests the art throughout the cottage is offered at a special rate.

Henry and Larissa are our gracious concierges. They will help arrange your visit and help with any needs or direction you may need. They have over 15 yrs of experience on the island and know it well. They will make you feel as though you are right at home.

We all enjoy having you at Fishbone!

Take in the natural beauty of our island.

If we can be of further assistance, you can reach us at 340-998-3383, or 402-850-4535.

Fishbone is your second home in the islands! Please visit us again and be part of the family.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2002

Why The Owner chose St John

It has the privacy of the south shore. Al the surveyor saw the cottage as one of the first choice lots with panoramic views of the Caribbean and perched where the tropical breeze is captured. It is a traditional caribbean cottage.

What makes this cottage unique

Convenience to amenities, 3.5 miles to town, ferry, dining and entertainment in Cruz Bay, yet secluded enough as we say, to be clothing optional. :)

Guestbook comments from the manager

This cute cottage, fishbone was perfect for our trip. The concierge, Gina was very helpful. She helped us get a jeep and escorted to the cottage and gave us a house tour. The view from the deck was magnificent and we had breeze all the time, no need of AC at all. You would wanna have a jeep to get to this cottage, but also great to driving around the island. We loved waking up with sunrise (or bit later), did morning yoga on the "yoga deck", and breakfast on upstairs deck. We spend a lot of time on the beach and ocean during daytime, went to cruz bay or coral bay at night. Coming back to fishbone made us relaxed after long day of activities. Outdoor shower overlooking the bay complete our day in St John. We recommend fishbone to all guests.

Fishbone is amazing!

  • 5 of 5

Fishbone is just what we needed! Privacy, views, convenient to beaches and great service. It is just a short drive from Cruz Bay but extremely private. Our favorite feature is the outdoor shower with a view! Amazing!

Spectacular views in immaculate, charming home.

  • 5 of 5

Fishbone is equipped with everything you need...tons of towels, beach supplies and a kitchen loaded with all the beautifully matched dishes and cooking equipment. The place has loads of charm without being cluttered. The AC in the bedroom was great to have, and the breezes come off the ocean all day and evening on the decks. We ate every meal outside. When there was trouble with the internet, or when we had questions about who to hire for a sailing adventure, the rental managers Henry and Larissa were immediately responsive and eager to help. They met us at the dock upon arrival and took us to the grocery store and made sure we were set for the week with jeep and other arrangements. It was a full service operation. We didn't mind being disconnected from the internet occasionally, but If you need reliable internet for work or other uses, best to check with Henry and Larissa to see if it is working better. Altogether and fabulous week at Fishbone!

FISHBONE COTTAGE - THE PERFECT GETAWAY LOCATION.

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived, we felt totally at home at Fishbone cottage. The views are spectacular from Morning to Night. The cottage is well cared for and stocked with all the necessities for cooking, grilling and beaching. I would suggest that the Owners invest in a couple of chaises for the deck and replenish broken back pack beach chairs more frequently. They get rusted out from the salt quickly there. Our wifi was constantly going off during the 2+ weeks we were there. Henry was most responsive to all our requests and even arranged to extend our stay by 3 days when our flight home was cancelled.

We will most certainly return to Fishbone to stay.

Terrific spot, especially for twosome looking for a quiet retreat

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect, quiet hillside vacation home for our escape. The views are georgous from all angles. Neat as a pin, clean, absolutely safe and nicely appointed, it is a very relaxing home base for St John explorations. Everything needed is provided except perhaps for a small washer/dryer. The manager was very attentive to our WiFi concerns which was our only frustration- there is only one provider. Visitors should plan for 20-45 minutes to get to the many beaches over this beautiful island- Cruz Bay and services/restaurants are about 10-15 minute drive. We would strongly recommend this home for an enjoyable vacation.

Great view and relaxation

  • 5 of 5

Stayed in the house for a week and enjoyed it a great deal. very nice to come home from the busy beaches to relax on either deck and the outdoor shower was a great place to cool off as stated in many other reviews. We stayed with a 4 year old boy and it was no problem at all. Only thing I would have liked to see more of were places to put our clothes. Overall a very good stay and the management was great and easy to get hold of. I would gladly recommend this house to anyone who likes to get away from the busy life in Cruz Bay.

All as promised!

  • 5 of 5

The unit was as described, beautiful views and all necessary items for us to make a for a nice base of exploration for 5 days. Plenty of seating, indoors and out, very responsive on island guides and when we had a minor problem with the power (causing the pump to be reset) the issue was fixed quickly. The only minor caution is that the drive up to fishbone and the driveway itself is not for the faint of heart! Steep and narrow!
