|Minimum Stay||4 nights|
Maine is called 'Vacationland'--Mt. Desert Island, home of Bar Harbor & Acadia National Park, is an incredibly beautiful place where people come to relax, to play and to appreciate all that nature has to offer. 'Spruce Lodge at Hadley Point' has been designed so that you and your family can stay in a wonderful and comfortable environment while you explore and experience all the beauty that surrounds you! Our charming 3-level home has a bright, open floor plan where the living room, dining area & kitchen share one big space on the main level. Just down the hall is a lovely bedroom, full bath and laundry room. Upstairs is a private loft with a balcony and large separate bedroom. Downstairs there is the family room with game table, beverage refrigerator and a really CUTE bedroom that we call 'The Rose Room' and another spacious full bath. Spruce green (of course) is our theme color & it accents 'miles' of natural pine, fun wallpapers & clean painted walls! The furniture, dishes, art & collectibles were chosen with the Maine Woods in mind!
Activities:: The beach at Hadley Point which is only a block away is a public area where you can launch a boat, have picnics, sunbathe, skip rocks and watch for seals and other wildlife. This is a favorite spot for the kayak rental companies to start and end their day trips-it's fun to watch them come and go- you might want to join them! You can swim, boat, hike and ride bikes on your own or go out on a whale-watching tour or sunset cruise on Frenchman's Bay. There are fantastic restaurants, great shopping and even mini golf courses nearby. There is an awesome 'Art Deco' movie theater called 'The Criterion' located in downtown Bar Harbor and two evenings a week there are band concerts on the Village Green. Several art shows are held during the summer and cruise ships come into the harbor weekly! Mt. Desert Island is truly an Unforgettable Place with something for Everyone!
I was born in Bar Harbor and my entire family lives or works only 5 minutes from our rental homes. My husband was born in Wisconsin and he fell in love with MDI the first time I took him there in 1996. He knew even before I did that we MUST have our own property there so that we would always have an excuse to go north whenever we could!
Mt. Desert Island is such a beautiful place - we both are so thankful that we can experience it many times a year and I must say that we are struck by the beauty and the solitude every time we go 'home.'
We hope that you truly have a wonderful time whether it is your first experience or you have been visiting for 20 years.
My Dad's motto is...'If you come to Maine one time it won't be your last time.' Of course he is pretty bias on the subject - having lived in Bar Harbor all his life! I wish everyone could get one of his Island tours-they are awesome to say the least!
He started working as a chauffeur at age 15 and he can tell some stories. He and my Mom owned several restaurants and motels and even developed the largest campground on the Island, Bar Harbor Campground which my youngest brother now manages.
Seems like our family has been in the hospitality trade forever and...with all that experience we have certainly learned how to take good care of our guests!
Lorie Wiebrecht purchased this house in 2002
We have spent a week at Spruce Lodge for the past two years. The home is immaculate and well stocked with everything you could possibly need for a wonderful Maine vacation, including a lobster pot with its own propane burner and all the plates and utensil you need for a lobster dinner, (including the bibs!). We are a family with 4 kids under the age of 12 and there was plenty of room and things to do even when the weather was inclement. It is conveniently located near Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park and Schoonic Peninsula. Hadley Point is a short walk and we were able to build a campfire and enjoy dinner right on the beach. .The owner is a pleasure to deal with and goes out of her way to make sure your stay is a pleasant one. We look forward to returning to Spruce Lodge.
Thank you for a wonderful vacation
The pictures of this place don't do it justice. We stayed there bc nothing was available in town. This was WAY better than being in town. It was bigger (spread over 3 floors) and was immaculate! It was quiet, had everything you could imagine in the pantry, walking distance to the water, close to Bar Harbor and the National Park. Even more amazing...my $500 deposit was waiting for me when I got home. Lorie (the owner) is fast, efficient and a pleasure to work with. She answered any questions we had and the property was very well maintained. We did a lot of hiking at the park and browsing in Bar Harbor. We were there a week and still did not have enough time to do everything. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!
Spruce Lodge was conveniently located to the park, Bar Harbor, and just steps to Hadley Point. The house was clean and provided the appropriate amenities for our week long stay. The owner was absolutely terrific. I would recommend certainly recommend this property especially for families. The free shuttle stops about a quarter mile from the lodge which was convenient for visiting the park. Be sure to grab some lobster at C-Rays Lobster pound just up the street and wine at nearby Bar Harbor Cellars.
We stayed at Spruce Lodge with our family of six in July 2016. The lodge was plenty spacious for all of us with room to spare! It was outfitted with everything we needed - even supplies to steam our own lobsters! Everything was so clean and organized. It is very easy to get around the island to see all the sites but was nice to return to the lodge at the end of the day to relax and have some privacy! My kids enjoyed walking along the beach at Hadley point and we even met some locals who showed us to how to dig for clams! We spent a lot of time hiking in Acadia National Park and visited Sand Beach as well. Lorie was very easy to work with and provided excellent communication. We would recommended this property and Lorie to anyone visiting the area. We plan on returning!
Our family of 5, kids from 2 to 12, stayed a week at Spruce Lodge. This was our first trip to Maine, and Spruce Lodge was the perfect place to stay. We were a little worried we would be too far from Bar Harbor, but the drive to town was easy and the house is close to a bus stop. We enjoyed having privacy at the house and easy access to Hadley Point beach. The house is spacious and comfortable and everyone slept well. It also came equipped with everything you would need for the kitchen, laundry, etc. We loved every minute in Maine and at Spruce Lodge--would not hesitate to stay here again!
Spruce Lodge was more that we expected. Exceptionally clean. It had all the little things that you wouldn't expect. It is excluded but yet close enough to the attractions. Plenty of quaint places to eat and neat shopping in Bar Harbor. Acadia National Park is close and a definite must do. We did the Lighthouse Boat Tour and that was fun. Be sure and dress appropriately, the wind is chilly. We were with another couple and it was perfect that we each had our own space. Want to go back and spend more time in the area. Will definitely stay at Spruce Lodge again. Could easily stay a month or two and it would be just like home. Thank you to the owners for sharing their space.
'Spruce Lodge' is located 3 miles from the bridge onto Mt. Desert Island and 7 miles from downtown Bar Harbor. The Visitor's Center located at one of the entrances of Acadia National Park is 10 minutes away. The Island Explorer which provides free bus service to downtown Bar Harbor, other Island towns and Acadia National Park, stops just up the road. Ellsworth which is 12 miles away has more movie theaters, restaurants and shopping. And don't forget the L.L. Bean Outlet Store, Marden's and Reny's which are all located on (Rt. 3) High Street! They have 'Wicked Good' stuff!
