This was by far one of the best vacations my husband, dog and I have ever had! Perfect location, perfect lake, perfect hosts. The swimming, sailing and sunrises were amazing. The surrounding areas were beautiful as well with so much to see and do! The homemade goodies that were provided by our hosts were the "icing on the cake!" Can't wait to go back!
The cottage, location, and hosts during the stay were great - 5 stars. Everything was clean, the pond was clean and swimming by the cottage was great! The hosts provided a tasty snacks for us. Getting to nearby sites and events was easy - Blue Hill Fair, Acadia NP and Bar Harbor.
FYI The water in the taps is from the lake - but bottled water is provided for drinking and cooking.
Getting a hold of the owner prior to our stay was a bit frustrating (why I chose 3 stars) - phone was never answered and calls never returned. We eventually worked everything out through email, but it took longer than it should have.
Our family - including two teenage girls - spent a wonderful four days on Toddy Pond. Everything was perfect. Quiet, secluded and peaceful. The property was as great as we imagined it would be, and Karen and Mark were extremely helpful, kind and generous. Karen had the cabin stocked with a bottle of wine and snacks, and with coffee making things for our first morning - how thoughtful! And on our last night, the best blueberry pie with ice cream. The fishing, kayaking and deck were wonderful. We enjoyed visits to Blue Hill, Castine and Deer Isle - all easy trips from the cabin. The deck and waterviews (and loon calls) were extremely relaxing. We look forward to visiting again!
My husband, 15-year-old stepson, and lab spent one very relaxing week at the camp at the beginning of July. The property is lovely - at the end of a dirt road with complete privacy on all sides. The camp has everything a family needs for a week, including homemade baked goods by the owner and coffee/milk/snacks for our first day so that we didn't have to go back out to the store. These special touches were especially welcome. While we brought our own kayaks, we also used their canoe and thoroughly enjoyed swimming every day too. The fire pit was fun to use at night and there were plenty of outdoor and indoor games and books to keep us "busy". The camp is also conveniently located to easily visit a couple local towns (about 20 minutes away) to get a sense of the area and to see the coast. I highly recommend the camp and would definitely come back here in the future.
My husband and I (and our dog max) spent a fabulous week on toddy pond and really didn't want to leave! Karen and Mark were so great and the treats Karen made were delicious and greatly appreciated. The cottage is the perfect cozy spot and reminded me of my childhood summer home. This was our first year and we have already booked our trip for next summer.
The cottage has it all: views, privacy, crystal clear lake, all the amenities you need, close to towns/cities but far enough from all the tourists! Easy to do day trips: Bar Harbor is about an hour away (whale watch, sunset cruise, Acadia); or Bucksport is about 15 minutes away (fort Knox & Penobscot observation tower). If you want yummy, fresh, local seafood "to go" , Carriers is 10 minutes away!
Make sure you plan at least a few days to just sit back, relax and enjoy the lake because it doesn't get better than this little peice of paradise!
The photos do not do this wonderful cabin and the wonderful Karen justice! First things first - the surroundings: Toddy Pond is stunning to look at/canoe around in (I'm not a lake swimmer, but my guy and friend certainly enjoyed the sparkling water and floating dock!). Blue Hill and the awesome Tradewinds grocery store are about 15 minutes away and perfect for picking up supplies/getting your in-town fix. Most importantly, I didn't leave with a single mosquito bite - that is unheard of. There must be a magic forcefield over the pond!
The cabin itself is a rather large camp and there are so many creature comforts that Karen includes, that it's hard to list them all: comfy bed with tons of blankets, bed warmers, fans, every spice/condiment/cooking utensil you could ever need, pet bowls, grill with propane, torches with bug repellent, fire pit with wood already cut, canoe and oars, games...literally everything is there for your fun-having/relaxing. The decor is thematic and adorably appropriate for the setting (loons and bears and wolves, oh my!) and the deck is awesome for star-viewing, lake-staring, and drinking wine.
Speaking of wine and goodies! Like a splendid, magical, goody fairy, Karen left a bottle of blueberry wine (yum!) and a tasty homemade cheesy snack AND midway through, she brought down the most delicious blueberry pie I have ever had. MAGIC. And there was accompanying ice cream in the freezer. DOUBLE MAGIC. Sweet German Shepard Abby came down every morning and said hello to us and our pup - a welcome greeting for sure! So, obviously the hospitality is unparalleled. Just really, really fantastic and homey and everything you could ever want in a home-away-from-home.
Hmm, what else...oh! There are cute co-ops and farms and antique shops all along the way there...The Blue Hill Fair is next week, which we are pretty sad we are missing, but there's always next year!
Nice and private and beautiful and homey and all things you don't even have to think of because Karen and Mark have already thought of it and made you feel like you're in camp heaven. Thanks so much for a splendid time! I spy a longer stay in our future :)
