The Queen has been casting her spell on visitors to the Hickory Nut Gorge for over 80 years. She's been lovingly restored and is ready to work her spell on you. Make plans now to visit for a memorable getaway.

The Queen of the Lake’s magic starts when you arrive. Even the views from the off-street parking are mesmerizing. There are just a few short steps down to the entry and the first of many decks for enjoying the outdoors. Inside, the convenient porch that runs the width of the house lets you enjoy the majestic panorama in air conditioned comfort.

The comfortable furniture and large great room will entice you to grab a book and settle in, but you'll still be attracted to the wonderful scenery just outside the window wall. As the sun goes down, you'll want to gather together to review the excitement of hiking at Chimney Rock Park, located just minutes away, or other adventures like visiting Biltmore with its vineyard. This is a great house for a group gathering, with room for ten.

Three of the bedrooms are on the main floor. The master suite has a queen sized bed and the other two each have sets of twin beds and share the second upstairs bath-with a new marble shower. Downstairs is another queen bed with en-suite bath, plus a hide-a-bed that sleeps two. (All bed and bath linens are included in the basic rate.)

You'll enjoy numerous spots for sunbathing and swimming plus other numerous outside activities and nearby tourist sites. Otherwise you can cozy up and read or watch your favorite TV or DVDs, and there’s enough space that one part of your group won’t interrupt the others.

About Ken Jordan

We were invited to visit friends at their Lake Lure cottage in the summer of 2012. When we left we realized that Lake Lure was one of those special places in the world that deserved a second visit. Our second visit that following fall began a quest to find a second home there. The beauty of Lake Lure tucked amongst the mountains together with the peacefulness of the laidback attitude of the lakeside families was very appealing. During this quest we looked at many homes, each with their strong points and weak points. Finally in early 2013 we found the perfect lake home that met all of our wants and needs.

Ken Jordan purchased this house in 2013

Why Ken Jordan chose Asheville Area

The “Queen of the Lake” is the oldest winterized house on house on Lake Lure. Built in 1927, as Lake Lure was filling for the first time, this house was blessed with “great bones” and a full acre of lakefront views. Often older Lake Lure residents have commented that the builder of our home had his choice of any location on the lake, and he chose the best of all views. The first family to live in our house was the owner of a series of department stores in the South, and had built this house for family getaways. The most recent previous owners did a marvelous job of modernizing this home, gutted and re-built the kitchen, gutted and re-built the entire downstairs, added a lovely coffered ceiling to the great room, and expanded the decks. The top porch has been enclosed with glass and setup for year-round climate controlled use. The morning coffee on this porch is hard to beat.

We are excited about the opportunity to enjoy all the amenities that Lake Lure offers. We are from the coastal region of North Carolina and can now take full advantage of what the state of NC has to offer, from the coast to the mountains. We are happy about the opportunity to share in our great find.

What makes this house unique

The home is conveniently located half way between the town of Lake Lure and the Ingles Supermarket. It is located on the Lake where the main channel meets the heart of the Lake, offering views that are magical. There is ample parking right next to the house for easy access. Also there is a gently sloped walkway leading to the lake and boathouse. Once at the lake there is a conveniently located lakeside cabana with a functioning bathroom to save trips back to the house when nature calls. When the sun sets, the views from the boathouse deck are hard to beat. Everything is in place for a perfect vacation week.

Perfect vacation home

  • 5 of 5

I rented this home for a week in late April to host a small family reunion, seven adults. We wanted a place with four bedrooms, a nice kitchen, acess to water, and places to relax. I researched opportunities quite thoroughly before deciding on Queen of the Lake. The house lived up to its name; it was perfect, as was the property manager. Ken answered numerous questions by email and always did so promptly. Everything about his service was outstanding. My sister was first to arrive; Ken met her promptly, showed her through the house, went over operation of appliances, heating/cooling, access to kayaks and canoe, etc. He also offered suggestions about numerous places to visit, fishing guide, and shopping.

The house was exceptionally clean when we arrived. All the ammenities--TV, radio, wifi, DVD--were of a high quality and worked flawlessly. The house is full of books and board games. Beds were comfortable; linens were high quality; plenty of towels were provided. Baths were well stocked with soap and paper. Likewise, the kitchen had all the essentials for preparing our own meals.

The shoreline of Lake Lure is very heavily developed, but this property is more isolated than most, without close neighbors. It has a nice, north-facing perspective with great views of the lake. Landscaping is attractive, with beautiful azaleas in bloom during our stay. In short, it was perfect, and was the perfect centerpiece for our semi-annual reunion.

OMG!!!...This was a wonderful vacation for our family!!! The home was beautiful, the view was just wonderful, best view on the lake. We sat on dock at night and watch the stars and that was amazing. So relaxing and you had everything you needed! We enjoyed the paddle boards, Kayaks, canoe and floats!! Coming from Charlotte didn't take any time at all. We can't wait to come back!!

Pure Bliss

  • 5 of 5

This home could not be in a more perfect location. The lake views are just amazing. You can watch gorgeous sun sets and moon risings unencumbered from the lower deck. The house is beautifully appointed and the kitchen is to die for. It is apparent that everything there, from the comfortable furniture to the myriad of games is there for your comfort and enjoyment. We went with our grown children and their spouses. Everyone had space for privacy and the large family room was ideal for gathering for games or conversation. The screened in porch was a favorite for reading or just contemplating. Everything about "The Queen of the Lake" is regal.

Great place, great location

  • 5 of 5

Have been vacationing in Lake Lure for a number of years. First time renting through VRBO. We loved this house.

The multiple levels and many rooms worked allowed everyone to have their own space. Enjoyed making family dinners in the updated kitchen every evening, and we all ended up on the air-conditioned enclosed porch for cards and family games afterward.

Where the house is located on the lake is perfect as well. You can't see neighbors houses from this location, and we never heard or saw them during our stay. And, the views of the lake from this location were incredible. The kids enjoyed jumping off the platform into the lake from the high deck. And, we used the paddle boards, kayaks, and canoe everyday.

Can't wait to come back to this house next year!

Annual family Lake Lure visit

  • 5 of 5

This was our first fourth visit to Lake Lure and our first stay at "The Lady of the Lake" . Ken Jordan is an excellent and attentive property manager. Ken met us upon arrival and escorted us to the home and acquainted us with the property.

We loved the property- well appointed and enjoy's a great location. The home is situated on a high bluff with expansive views of the lake. We are already anticipating next summer and our return visit to "The Lady of the Lake".
