This is a spacious ground level apartment located in a downtown historic home. the apartment is within walking distance to ALL major Metro lines and most of the national sites, as well as, grocery stores and dozens of restaurants.
The apartment has a fully stocked kitchen so that you can cook and also features a rear garden that guests greatly enjoy. Additionally, we have WIFI and Comcast cable on all three flat screen televisions. We are two blocks from two CVS Drugstores and five blocks to Whole Foods and Giant which also delivers.
PLEASE NOTE: The living room area doubles as the second bedroom with doors for privacy, a pull out sofa as well as a double high, queen sized air bed. (There is room for both the sofa bed to pull out and the air bed to be fully inflated).
The location of the apartment is terrific for sightseeing. We found the sofa bed uncomfortable and there was sometimes a damp smell in the bathroom, but the appliances all worked, the kitchen was decently stocked, and the place was clean. We were annoyed to learn after leaving the apartment all day that pulling the door shut did not lock it, one had to press another tiny button on the door. We realized as we were going out for dinner that we couldn't lock the door. It took awhile but the owner responded and explained where the button was.
Location was poor. We walked out of the apartment everyday to be greeted by prostitutes. Not kidding. Construction upstairs was very noisy. Won't be returning.
Our stay worked out well, the location is good, we walked to everything (though some might find it a bit of a walk we didn't). The neighbourhood is typical of a big city and we had no problems with any of the neighbours, who were all very friendly when passing on the street. We also felt safe walking any time of the day though we were never later getting home past 10pm.
You can flag down a taxi 2 blocks over with no problem if you need to.
The apartment itself was good for the 2 of us. I've seen other reviews that had up to 6 people and though you can sleep 6 I'd think it would be cramped.
The bed was very comfortable and having a washer and dryer was a bonus.
The owners (though we never actually met them in person) were very attentive via text and email.
I didn't give this 5 stars as even though the unit above is going through renovations ( lots of stuff on the front porch area) I felt the entrance way to our unit in the basement could have used a very good cleaning, was used as a storage area for lawn whipper, mulch bags etc. We never used the back yard but looking at it we didn't see the bbq so not sure where that went. Though I knew it was a basement apartment I thought there would be at least one window (other then the front door) where we could see outside, I was wrong. So it really is a basement and something I do not prefer to stay in but that is just my preference.
On a positive note when in Washington to sight see you aren't in the unit much anyways.
It says two bedrooms apartment, actually just one living room and one bedroom. There are one queen size bed in the bedroom, one sofa bed in the living room, plus one inflatable bed stored in closet. Except that the bed sheet on the queen size bed is clean, the other bed sheets and quilt and pillow are all kept in a laundry basket in a closet, look like not clean with stain. The sofa bed has some springs came out which hurted my back so badly after sleeping. The bathroom has some smells. Street parking is a big problem. There were not room services at all during our couples days stay.
We enjoyed our stay at this apartment. The host was very accommodating, and we were well taken care of. It was so nice to stay in such a central location. Being about to walk to the mall and all the museums was such a plus. We were five adults, and though sleeping was a bit tight - the apartment had enough space for us all to relax and enjoy our downtime. The back patio was great, and there are enough different areas in the apartment that we could spread out when needed. I'd stay here again!
We stayed for 3 nights with our 2 teenagers who slept on the couches in the living room. photos are very accurate. Amenities were good (washer/dryer a plus). The location is great and the neigborhood seemed safe. there is a citybike stand right around the corner and we found this to be an excellent way to see all of the DC sites, especially the monuments and mall.
Being a basement apt & very humid weather, it was a bit musty and the AC was very noisy but all in all we had a great stay.
