Amata - 'place of everlasting happiness' - is a contemporary self-contained guest suite that comprises the ground floor of our beautifully-situated home. It is available for rentals year-round on beautiful Salt Spring Island, BC. The suite has a queen bed and a double futon within the same open-plan area (note that these are not in two separate bedrooms).
Relax in the tranquil surroundings, enjoying the company of local wild deer that enjoy resting on the lawn. Help yourself to the herbs outside the suite entrance as you prepare your own sumptuous meals in the dine out on the gazebo with a panoramic view of the property. Take a peaceful walk around the labyrinth - you may even be joined by one of our friendly cats (please note that we cannot accommodate guests bringing their own pets).
The local Creekside Rainforest is a wonderful place to explore nature, while several artist studios are situated just footsteps away, including the very delicious Moonstruck Cheese. Emerge from your Salt Spring retreat feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Your hosts Brett (qualified Physiotherapist and Yoga Teacher) and Jason (PhD in Psychology, specialising in communication skills) offer a variety of treatments and therapies that can turn your retreat into a growthful and insightful experience.
Amata Guest Retreat is located at the southern end of Beddis Road, central Salt Spring Island. We are just footsteps away from Beddis Beach, one of the island's most beautiful beaches, and a short drive from both Fulford and Long Harbour ferry terminals. Ganges (the main village on the island) is 6km/10 minute drive away.
Please note that we are NOT able to accept guests with pets. In addition, there is a minimum age limit of 12 years. As this is a vacation rental property and not a B&B, please note that no meals are included - though the suite, of course, has a full kitchen and there is a wide selection of tea and coffee, together with milk and condiments.
Also, please note that the suite comprises the ground floor of our home (with its own private entrance). It is not a stand-alone cottage. There is a $20 supplement per night, payable at check-out, for a third person to stay in the suite on the futon bed.

Brett grew up in South Africa, Jason in the UK, and we both moved to Canada in the 90's - eventually making it across to Salt Spring in 2005. Waking up each morning on this beautiful island feels like an everlasting vacation. We are blessed to have found a sunny property, graced by many of the local deer, and have created tranquil gardens that are designed to offer a retreat from the busy world for us as well as for our guests.
The Owner purchased this studio in 2005
We chose this location due to its proximity to the ocean (less than 200 metres) and local rainforest. While we're only ten minutes away from the shops and restaurants of Ganges (the island's only town), we were attracted by the quiet road (we're nearly at the end of it) and low volume of traffic - good for our peace of mind and the cats' well-being!
Sitting by the garden pond, watching the whale fountain while deer wander through the grounds. Doing yoga in the beautiful Pyramid studio that we built in the garden in 2008, or dining in the sun-drenched gazebo looking out over the lawn in the long summer months. In the winter, enjoying one of the lightest properties in the area - not too many trees to obscure the precious winter sun.
Would highly recommend staying here The property is beautifully landscaped It's a great location, short walk to Beddis beach and less than a 10 minute drive to Ganges. Our host was very accommodating and helpful , we were welcomed with a gorgeous bouquet fresh from the garden, some chocolates, a bottle of champagne and lavender sachets. The suite was clean, tidy and tastefully decorated
My best friend and I recently spent 3 nights at Amata for our annual girls' getaway, and we could have easily stayed a week ... or more!
The suite is fresh + comfortable, lovely, full of thoughtful touches, and equipped with everything you might need for a short trip away. It also stays quite cool on hot summer days! Jason + Brett are welcoming and kind hosts, and truly made us feel as though we were at home. We thoroughly enjoyed simply sitting around on the deck with our morning coffee - which opens out onto their beautiful garden - listening to contented bees buzz amongst the lavender and watching deer and fawns amble happily around the property. We liked that it was just far enough off the main road, but still quite close to Ganges, and otherwise pretty central to getting around the rest of the island. The view at the top of Mt Maxwell is well worth the drive up. If you're around on Saturday for the famous farmer's + artisan's market, do go early! We also highly recommend one of Brett's yoga classes in the pyramid, it's accessible for yogis of all levels.
We usually don't repeat locations for our summer getaways, choosing to visit somewhere different each year, but we are already contemplating a return to the calm + beauty of Amata again next year!
This is a lovely suite on gorgeous SSI. The hot tub is great and I did an eye-opening physio session with Brett in the pyramid--he also does private and group yoga classes. The hosts have a lovely garden and the setting is very private. Highly recommended and a short drive to everywhere on the island.
A wonderful accomodation with great owners! Super location within 5 minutes of Ganges, in a quiet cul-de-sac location with a public beach a short walk away. The owners, Jason and Brett, welcomed us on our arrival, gave great recommendations for dining locations and even provided some helpful kayak instruction! Brett is a physio-therapist and yoga instructor and we plan to join one of his classes during our next trip. The garden/yard area is prettier than the pictures; peaceful and private. My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful three days in this suite and we are already planning our return.
We decided on a short getaway and this place was a great choice. Quiet location and a good home base. Was there with my wife and daughter and my daughter commented on the "calm and quiet energy". Good communication with Jason and very welcoming when we arrived. We plan on coming back!
Not sure whether to rave about or stay or keep the secret to ourselves. Our stay here was the height of our BC trip. The place is beautiful, well appointed, and most of all peaceful. The grounds are the perfect place to wander, read, and relax. Even though this was quite a secluded location, it was still just a 10 minute drive into Ganges, plus we were able to buy fresh food at the farm stands along the way. Although we didn't meet the owners, their cats made us very welcome. We would definitely stay here again.
