About Laura Fay

My husband and I grew up in Ireland. We have 2 teenage boys. 'Carraig Nua' is home away from home...a place to take ourselves for great adventures or to relax and do absolutely nothing.

Laura Fay purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Laura Fay chose Tahoe City

We wanted to create great childhood memories for our kids, and what a great place Lake Tahoe our vacation home 'Carraig Nua' (Childhood family home name and Gaelic for 'New Rock') has been for the whole family. We love the mountains, being able take a walk in Paige Meadows and along sections of the Tahoe Rim Trail, or raft down the Truckee river on those days when we are too lazy for the big outings, and being able to hike, bike and play in some of the best western mountain terrain available.

What makes this cabin unique

When staying at 'Carraig Nua' we enjoy activities year round.

In the winter it's downhill skiing and walk-in/walk-out cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, sledding and more.

In summer, we walk from the front door for great walks and hikes through Paige Meadows and the Tahoe Rim Trail, mountain biking, water-skiing and doing just nothing but barbecuing and relaxing.

In the Fall, the town is sleepy and the hiking opportunities are unparalleled.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is a most beautiful, comfortable, most modern bungalow (cabin) I have every known. It's the best trip we've enjoyed. Thank you very much. God Bless All! - The Yeo Family

Weekend in the snow

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved this property and the owner. The property was clean and very nicely decorated. It was more than enough space for two families with 4 children. The location was so convenient to local attractions and most importantly the freeway, so getting in and out of Tahoe was a breeze. It was also nice to deal with the owner who was overly accommodating, as opposed to a unresponsive management company. We really enjoyed our time here and would come back in a heartbeat.

Great Tahoe weekend

  • 5 of 5

My family, plus another family from our children's school, stayed at this property for a weekend vacation in the snow. We chose it due to its' proximity to Tahoe City and Alpine Meadows, where we went skiing for one day. The house was very clean, and exceeded expectations. We were very comfortable and the children had a great time. We would definitely come back again, and would recommend to friends. It was also very affordable.

The weekend we went there was a ton of snow, so street signs were hard to see. The directions and map provided by the owner were incredibly useful, so if you are renting during the winter follow the owner's instructions and bring a print out of the map/directions with you.

Unforgettable vacation

  • 5 of 5

This home lived up to all my expectations and more. It is exactly as described and was very clean. When we arrived, the drive had taken 12 hours to get there, due to 80 and 50 being closed. Needless to say that we arrived a little tired and grumpy. Then we walked in to this beautiful home, in a winter wonderland and was just in awe of the welcoming feel of the home. It is spacious with a very cozy feel to it. It is away from the main roads and very close to trails and the wilderness. This was my children's first trip to the snow and my family of four plus my aunt had an unforgettable vacation that will last a lifetime. I can't wait for the next trip back and I highly recommend this place to anyone what wants to enjoy nature, the lake and all the offerings of the Tahoe area. Thank you again for opening your home to us and helping to create and unforgettable memory for my family!

Fabulous Home

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at this property for a ski vacation at Alpine & Squaw Valley recently and were pleasantly surprised at how clean and beautiful this home was. We did a lot of cooking and the kitchen had all the items we needed and more. We were very comfortable here and will come back again. The owners were available by phone for us for some questions we had during our stay. This home is well maintained, clean and had binders to explain how to operate different things in the home. Thank you Laura for letting us stay at your home.
