My husband and I grew up in Ireland. We have 2 teenage boys. 'Carraig Nua' is home away from home...a place to take ourselves for great adventures or to relax and do absolutely nothing.
Laura Fay purchased this cabin in 2000
We wanted to create great childhood memories for our kids, and what a great place Lake Tahoe our vacation home 'Carraig Nua' (Childhood family home name and Gaelic for 'New Rock') has been for the whole family. We love the mountains, being able take a walk in Paige Meadows and along sections of the Tahoe Rim Trail, or raft down the Truckee river on those days when we are too lazy for the big outings, and being able to hike, bike and play in some of the best western mountain terrain available.
When staying at 'Carraig Nua' we enjoy activities year round.
In the winter it's downhill skiing and walk-in/walk-out cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, sledding and more.
In summer, we walk from the front door for great walks and hikes through Paige Meadows and the Tahoe Rim Trail, mountain biking, water-skiing and doing just nothing but barbecuing and relaxing.
In the Fall, the town is sleepy and the hiking opportunities are unparalleled.
This is a most beautiful, comfortable, most modern bungalow (cabin) I have every known. It's the best trip we've enjoyed. Thank you very much. God Bless All! - The Yeo Family
The cabin was beautiful and clean the owner was amazing super nice always kept in touch we highly recommended we would love to rent it again thank you Laura
Cabin was exactly as pictured. Because the cabin is higher on the mountain we got lots of snow for the kids to play in while the cabins closer to the main road didn't have any. The backyard is flat and there was plenty of room to play.
There wasn't a place to sled so we ended up sledding down the road in front of the house.
The kitchen was stocked however there wasn't a cookie sheet but we made do without it.
The beds were comfy and no one had any complaints. There was a lot of space in the rooms for all of us, 4 adults and 4 kids. The master bedroom was the warmest at night but that worked for us since we had a 3 month old with us. The bunk room had toys in the closet which my girls loved. There was also a loft with a little air hockey table that got a lot of use while we were there.
The only complaint my husband had was the televisions. The TV in the bunk room is a tube with a vcr, all of the tvs could use an update.
The cabin is close to town and everything you would need if you didn't bring it.
I enjoyed myself as did the kids. I would definitely stay here again if we wanted to have some snow play and relax.
We had a problem while checking out and Laura answered my call immediately, which was greatly appreciated. Everything in the cabin was exactly as described and there were some basic supplies in the house which was also greatly appreciated.
We stayed in the property for two nights with my parents and two kids and really enjoyed our stay. The house is conveniently located and owners have taken extra care to provide all amenities and support to make for a wonderful stay by taking care of small details. The description as defined on site including pics exactly match the reality, which is always not the case. The owner Laura was very helpful and timely in communicating the details of property, we would definitely love to come back here for an extended stay in near future.
We spent a week here with our two adult children and a son-in-law, and found it a perfect retreat from our busy lives as well as an opportunity to spend extended time with the family. The location is far enough away from the busy tourist areas to be peaceful and quiet, but just a short drive to Tahoe City and the beaches along the west shore. Want to sleep in? Get up early and take a hike? Cook a great meal in the kitchen or barbecue on the deck? Go kayaking in Tahoe City? Ride the tram at Squaw Valley? Take a long afternoon nap? The possibilities are too numerous to count, and certainly cannot be exhausted in a week's time.
The cabin itself is probably cleaner than your own home, unless you are as obsessive/compulsive as my mother. The kitchen is adequately equipped for cooking a gourmet meal (which we did - more than once). The beds are comfortable, sheets and towels are provided; there's plenty of sitting area around the table and in the living area. The loft is great for the introverts in the group. We really appreciated having access to a washer and dryer in the house.
The hosts were available and responsive by email or phone for any questions or problems. We would definitely return for another stay.
We really enjoyed our stay at this cozy and roomy home in Tahoe City. The place was clean and fully equipped with everything essential from blankets, great selection of DVD's and down to even sugar in the kitchen which we ran out of ourselves! We will definitely be back as the kids loved the bunk beds and game loft and the adults enjoyed the deck backing to a beautiful green forest and blue Tahoe sky. The place is quietly nestled in a cul de sac with a 10 min walk to a beautiful view of the lake.
I stayed at this property with my husband and two teenage children. We had plenty of space and it was a perfect house to come home to after hiking and hanging at the beach. There are hiking trails walking distance from the house. Squaw Valley has many trails and is a short drive. Sugar Pine point has a nice beach and is close. There are many restaurants and bars nearby in Tahoe City.
Check in an check out was easy and professional. I highly recommend this property.
