Kristen Walter purchased this Cabin in 2009
Why Kristen Walter chose Fennimore
The Driftless Area (an unglaciated corner of Southwest WI reminiscent of Upstate New York) is known for its scenic, wooded valleys, spring fed streams and rocky hilltops. It is a unique part of the country -- very different than much of the midwest -- and for those in the know, a special place to get away without having to go too far.
What makes this Cabin unique
Our cabin was purchased unfinished and in some disrepair in 2009. Thanks to my architect wife's keen eye, some elbow grease and a desire to create something special we remodeled our cabin into the luxurious hideaway we have today. We enjoy sharing our little slice of heaven with others who appreciate the opportunity to slow down and enjoy the finer things in life. This is not a rustic cabin. While it is certainly off the beaten path, it is also modern, well-kept and luxuriously appointed. We appreciate guests who treat our cabin as their own home and have been very pleased to find that nearly all of our guests do so.

Clean and Relaxing!
House is smaller then the pictures showed, but not disappointing at all. Brought a few kitchen supplies from home since we were making a Thanksgiving dinner. Cabin had everything else we needed. At first was not sure of the layout, but it worked out perfectly. Kitchen, 1/2 bath and the two bedrooms were on the first floor. Full bath, living room and balcony on second floor. No TV at dinner, no showers heard when sleeping. This layout allowed for a lot a fun family time around the kitchen table. Since it was late in November and hunting season, we did not get to explore or utilize the outside, but very much enjoyed the view from every window in the house. I’m sure we will make a return visit, since this is my daughter’s first year at UW. For those interested, the drive was about an hour, beautiful and easy to get to. Thank you to the owners for a wonderful getaway!
Loved the setting. The cabin was comfortable and provided everything we needed. We cooked most of our meals on sight and we had all the necessary utensils. We had our 2 and 5 year-old grandchildren with us and the toys and kid DVDs were just what they needed. In fact our granddaughter wanted to stay a 3rd night and our grandson started crying when we got to our house because he wanted to go back to the cabin. Needless to say "a good time was had by all." We would definitely stay again and would highly recommend your cabin to others.
A great place to relax and enjoy some trout fishing.
The house is in a great location and in great condition. We had 5 adults and 2 children, and there was enough room. Spent a couple of days fishing the local trout streams - there are lots of places to fish for trout, including the river that runs below the house.
The property needed better outdoor maintenance.
We had three generations of visitors: 2 seniors, 2 40- year olds, 2 teenagers.
1. Seniors-cabin was difficult to access from parking to cabin; paths were not exposed due to weed overgrowth, making hiking difficult. Bathroom/shower/gathering area was in the loft area, making it difficult for 75 year-olds to navigate. Gathering area was a bedroom.
2. The only scenes were those of trees blocking views.
3. Indoor maintenance was excellent and in good taste, outdoor not so nice.
4.. We enjoyed the beautiful countryside scenery when we traveled around the area. Food stores, restaurants, very nice.
5. We would not recommend this cabin for more than two couples.
Great place to unplug.
The perfect little place!
This cabin is exactly what we needed! We came to the area because my husband was turkey hunting. My 2 youngest children (7 & 4) and I came to get some much needed rest and relaxation. Boy, did this place check all of the boxes. The scenery is gorgeous - the views are breath taking! The cabin is spectacular! It literally had every single thing you would ever need! We even found the Morel Mushroom Festival in the nearby town of Muscoda! We were so sad to leave, but hope to be able to come back soon!! Thank you so much for allowing us to use your gorgeous space!
fly fishing, bald eagle watching, morel mushroom hunting, winery tours, swimming and canoeing nearby, board games and reference library
