Our family rented this home for 4 years before having the opportunity to purchase it from the original builder/owner. It has felt like 'ours' from the beginning & it is a true gift from God for our family.
This home is particularly suited to multi-generational family gatherings. Because of the unique open floor plan, each family can have their own 'space', yet be completely together.
Our first impression when we opened the front door was WOW! All 12 of us were completely thrilled. We are a family of 6 adults and 6 children aging from 7 to 14. The house provided every amenity we could have wished for. Everything was clean and well-maintained. The kitchen and bathrooms were very well equipped. The road access to the beach was great...so much better than climbing all those stairs! Our days were filled with the beach and playing board and card games. We loved the huge table in the kitchen, we were all able to gather and eat at the same time. We visited South Haven. Did some shopping and had a great lunch at Captain Nemos. We also visited Saugatuck. We took a paddle boat tour, ate lunch at the Mermaid (fabulous) and relaxed the afternoon away at Oval Beach...awesome!
We were so grateful to Julie (the owner) for her patience while helping us get through the front door ;-) She is a very nice lady!
If you're looking for a beautiful place to have the best vacation ever...this is it! Don't hesitate...you'll love it!
We loved this beach house for our "Girls Getaway"! It was as nice as the pictures! There were only nine of us, so we each got a bed to ourselves, which was nice. Everyone commented on how comfortable the beds were, even the futons! The house was clean and ready for us when we got there.
The weather did not cooperate the weekend we were there~ lots of rain and wind ~ (in fact there were small craft warnings on the lake) so most of us spent very little time outdoors. The "beach walkers" were disappointed because the beach was simply not safe to walk on. However, staying inside was not a hardship~~there was enough room for some to work on a puzzle, some to curl up with a book and a blanket and others to watch a movie, without getting in each others way.
The kitchen was well stocked and we thoroughly enjoyed preparing meals there. The table was large enough for all of us to eat together~~we also spent a lot of time playing games at that table (domino's and cards mostly!). We went out to eat in Saugatuck once and one evening we picked up a pizza from a nearby pizza place (great pizza!), so there are options if you don't want to cook.
The weekend turned out to be very relaxing and we all hated to head back to everyday life!
Julie was great to work with and answered any questions we had. I hope we can come back during warmer weather and enjoy the beach!
Our family of 15 fit well in the spacious living area of this beautiful cottage. We ranged in age from 21 to 67. Despite a couple rainy days, we had great fun playing games and conversing indoors. We never felt cramped. The younger ones in the group loved the loft area filled with beds/futons. The fire pit is outstanding. Regarding the beach... it's 102 steps down to the private area! Most of us went up and down at least once, just for the exercise. One of our family members suffers from MS and unable to walk any real distances, but we drove her to the beach and she was able to bask in the sun with the rest of us. We met a couple neighbors who were very friendly. Keep in mind that this is a rental cottage, therefore, the furniture is well
used, but still functional. It is a great value for the money! It is very hard to find a rental property for a large group that is reasonably priced. These owners are more than fair! I would recommend this property for large parties.
This is a wonderful property for multi-generations to stay for a week. We had our children and mates, plus their 5 children (infant to 8 years)-11 total. The space was perfect for eating meals together (table seats 12), two living rooms to relax, three private bedrooms with extra twins and a crib, plus 5 beds in the loft - some being doubles. We had both warm and cool weather. The huge movie selection along with games and puzzles kept all entertained (along with a noon trip to Saugatuck). On the warm days, we spent at the private beach. It is 9/10 mile from house, but you can drive right up to beach, leave car, and leave chairs all week stacked up by dune. I thoroughly enjoyed walks through the neighborhood and to beach, hearing the birds, seeing deer, and admiring the homes. Morning walks on the beach were the best; evening sunsets were picture perfect. Julie was great to work with. Thanks for opening your home to others!
We are impressed that great interior work. Actually no one can tell it from outside or photo, though once open the door then see inside, you will be realized what real thing is.
When we stayed there it was bad storm and no leaves were grown, but everybody had enjoyed staying house which could make our feeling warm, and made us smile. So now I understand why this house booked out all season.
One thing I should make note that it's located walk-by distance from Lake Michigan, and there is common deck to see great lake, but access to the lake is heavy slope/steps which is not for small kids or old parson. If you want to get beach, just remind it.
Ahhh, we just adore this cottage! It is located in a quiet and quaint neighborhood with a very reasonable walk to the stairs that lead down to the beach--and the beach is fantastic!
The house is so much more than pictures can tell. Very large and spacious, yet still cozy enough to feel like a true cottage. The owners have done an incredible job making it feel like a real "home" with all the unique decor touches. My husband and I spent time at the cottage for our anniversary, and it was exactly what we were looking for. Close enough to great shops and restaurants, but secluded enough to feel like you are all alone.
We also loved the information on the surrounding area provided by the owners. They have marked out some great eateries, antique shops, and family spots--really thoughtful idea.
All in all, we will definitely be returning to this beautiful vacation spot!
Large lodge-style home with semi-private access to lovely stretch of Lake Michigan beach. Enjoy the harbor areas of South Haven & Saugatuck for shopping, dining, fishing, boating and beach activities. Enjoy summer festivals and fall fruit growing and picking season. Visit our home in the fall for color tours and wine tasting tours.
Other Activities: Enjoy time together, relax on the beach, search for beach glass along the shoreline, build a sandcastle, watch the sun set over Lake Michigan, sleep in, tour local vineyards, enjoy s'mores over an open campfire, 'work' a puzzle, bird-watch through expansive windows, read books, watch movies, shop in the towns of South Haven & Saugatuck, antique shop along Blue Star Hwy, nap, enjoy fantastic local restaurants or prepare gormet meals in our well equipped kitchen!
