Overview

About the property

2 bedroom 1 bath. Beautiful up north completely private country suite.

We are located 5 miles from Charlevoix and 7 miles from The Castle.

The Executive Suite SLEEPS 4 and was designed and built to serve as Mothers-in-law quarters. With its own private entrance, it is nestled among 33 year old evergreens that tower 35' above you. This is a beautifully appointed apartment and was decorated with the executive in mind. The 1100 S/F floor plan offers a queen-size bed in both the master bedroom and the guest bedroom. It has central AC and a fully equipped kitchen including a dishwasher. It has satellite TV and Wireless Internet. The Jacuzzi Hot Tub (seasonal) is outside in a screened in porch for your bug free enjoyment. Abbeys also has available, on the opposite side of the property, another 2 bedroom apartment that sleeps 6 in case you are traveling with a bigger party!

Biking and Skiing: Charlevoix has a bike path called Little Traverse Wheelway: It runs 26 miles from Charlevoix to Harbor Springs. The trail is mostly “dedicated” and mostly asphalt. It is by far one of the nicest bike paths in all of Michigan. The Little Traverse Conservancy owns and manages more than 164 public nature preserves in this area.

Boyne Mountain, one of Michigan’s premier ski locations is only 19 miles away. Downtown “Charlevoix the Beautiful” is only 5 miles away while Petoskey, with its great shopping and casino is only 18 miles away. And if you still need some more skiing, there is Boyne Highlands and Nubs Knob just 27 miles away. Don’t forget about all the groomed snowmobile trails, ice fishing and cross country skiing located in all directions from this location. Between the beauty of the area, the fine appointments of the unit and the savings reflected in our pricing, this is by far the best value to be had compared to any other choices in Boyne Country.

Amenities:: The City of Charlevoix was ranked #2 on Midwest Living's list of 100 Best Small-Town Getaway's. Charlevoix County has a long reputation for being one of the most picturesque getaway's in Michigan and when you come spend some time in this resort town, you'll see why it is called the crown jewel of Northern Michigan. Set in the midst of Lake Michigan, Lake Charlevoix and Round Lake, its beauty is as engaging in January as in June! The waterfront, galleries, boutiques, and restaurants add to the appeal as is the fact that this casually elegant destination will present vacation memories that will be treasured for years to come! Enjoy Charlevoix AFFORDABLY and stay with us here at ABBEYS. Don't limit yourself to just one beach. Stay at Abbeys and go to different beach everyday and use all the money that you save to treat yourself to

Beaches - Oh the Beaches: There are so many beaches to choose from, too many to list, but let me just start here. Directly west of town is Lake Michigan Beach. The beach is south of the pier that the light house is on. There is a playground, concession building and restrooms.

Adjacent to the old train depot museum on Charlevoix Lake, there is another wonderful beach with play equipment for children. The water in this Lake is considerably warmer than that of Lake Michigan.

Further south on Charlevoix Lake is Ferry Beach with wonderful play grounds and covered picnic areas.

About Abbey Rose

I live in the main house at Abbeys and take pride in my properties. Because I live there also, I can be more responsive to any of my guests needs – from key exchanges, to cleaning, to repairs, and anything in between. This is a beautiful Suite and is fully furnished and have all the amenities of home combined with the beauty of that “up north” experience.

Abbey Rose purchased this apartment in 2003

Why Abbey Rose chose Charlevoix

I used to spend 2 to 3 weeks a year when my children were younger and still living with me up here in Charlevoix the Beautiful. We would rent a cottage in the summer for several weeks and then again in the fall for a week or so. I fell in love with this place so when I retired I decided that I would like to be here full time. Built a great log home in the northern woods and never looked back!

What makes this apartment unique

Being just a few mile outside of the town of Charlevoix, I believe that this gorgeous northern Michigan setting that Abbeys is located at - the look of the open meadows and woods and the smell of evergreens, you too will feel that you have enjoyed the true "up north" experience at its finest.

Peaceful and quaint

  • 5 of 5

This was a very lovely place to stay! My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary during our stay and it was the perfect place to stay. The amenities were great and everything we needed. The location is wonderful as there are many places to visit that are within an hour or so of travel time. We went through the tunnel of trees and stopped at Legs Inn for dinner on our anniversary and one day we went to Mackinaw City and another Petoskey and of course we went into Charlevoix and did the Mushroom House tour that I would also highly recommend and ate at East Park Tavern which was also excellent. Thank you for our wonderful stay in your cozy and welcoming rental!

17 loose rock steps down to front door is NOT suitable for elderly or infirmed!

  • 3 of 5

Although the apartment was clean and very comfortable, this property should NOT be considered for the elderly or infirmed as described under the "suitability" category of the description. Yes, the shower is a walk-in shower and the apartment is on one floor and extremely clean and well stocked. However, there are 17 steps down to the front door. These steps are constructed of loose rocks, bordered by railroad ties, with no handrail and have very little grass space on either side. So if you have trouble navigating stairs or use a wheelchair or walker, don't stay here. Luckily my husband could descend the slope with a cane in the narrow grass space next to the steps. If it rained, the grass was slippery. The description needs to be amended to reflect these stairs. Otherwise, very quiet, clean and equal distance to Traverse City and Mackinac Island.

Owner's Response: I am so sorry that you had to go through this Rita. I was called out of town and was unable to greet you and get you settled in. I take full responsibility for not remembering to tell you via our emails that you could have driven around the back of the property and parked right next to the door of the Executive Suite! NOT ONE STEP INVOLVED!!! I feel horrible that because you were not made aware of this option, that you and your husband experienced some difficulties. I am heartened to hear that the Executive Suite itself did pass muster. At least that part of your holiday was good. Please accept and extend my genuine apologies to your husband for my neglect in informing you of your parking options. Gods blessings. Abbey <(((><

Northern Michigan vacation

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I picked this unit as a central location for our first-ever trip to Northern Michigan (September 17-23). Charlevoix turned out to be a great spot for day trips throughout the region. We wanted a full kitchen to enable us to do our own food due to my wife's dietary needs, and this unit was perfect for that. The kitchen was fully equipped. We also had our small dog with us, and the unit is pet friendly! Additionally, we enjoyed using the hot tub after a day of hiking or sightseeing, and the bed was very comfortable. The unit was quiet and peaceful, and the owners accommodating.

We took trips to Traverse City/Sleeping Bear Dunes, Mackinac Island, Sault St. Marie (and the Soo Locks) and also into Ontario along the shore of Lake Superior. We also took a couple days to enjoy the immediate area of Charlevoix and Petoskey. We enjoyed the beautiful waters of three Great Lakes and even went swimming our last day as they hit a record high of 89 degrees! We loved all our day trips . . . and the town of Charlevoix is particularly quaint. We also enjoyed hunting the lake shore for Petoskey stones :) We recommend this unit!

We enjoyed our stay at Abbey's. It is an easy drive to Charlevoix and Petoskey. Although the property is underneath the main housing, there is a private entrance and privacy throughout your stay.

Hide-away in the woods! Rustic and private but with a hot tub!!!

  • 5 of 5

This apartment located only a little more than 5 minutes outside of Charlevoix was a perfect get away destination for myself and my husband. The apartment was very comfortable, very clean, very private and just a very nice quiet place to spend a few days. Having the hot tub was an added bonus!
