Hale Lani is one of the very few legal vacation rentals in Ha'ena, North Shore, near Tunnels. We hold a certificate of use permit as a vacation rental as is required by law in Kauai. Our Permit Number is TVNC 4182. For your peace of mind, you should only rent from a permitted vacation rental, as unpermitted homes could be shut down before your stay.
We have great free WI-FI! Our repeat guests love staying at our large home because of the splendid location, our authentic South Seas décor and excellent value.
In a rural area with easy access to almost deserted sandy beach, this home is set far back from a road that ends in two miles at the beginning of the famous NaPali Coast Hiking trail and Ke'e beach.
Keep in mind that may of Kauai's "beaches" do not allow easy access to the ocean due to cliffs or coral reef that prevent you from getting in the water. Our beach and Tunnels next door have great ocean access and also have coral formations that you can swim around.
From our lanai you can enjoy beautiful Bali Hai Views -
Our often private beach is 400 yards from the home and from there you can walk on Beach to Tunnels, which is the next beach over.
Great for Groups and Families!
Amenities: Phone, Cable TV, VCR, DVD, Stereo, CD Player, Bluetooth Speaker Tower, WIFI throughout home and lanai, Full Kitchen, Microwave, Dishwasher, Refrigerator, Ice Maker, small appliances, Cooking Utensils provided, Linens provided, Washer & Dryer, Charcoal Grill (BBQ)

World class Snorkeling: Our Ha'ena, Kauai, Hawaii, vacation rental home is located about 400 yards from almost deserted golden, sandy beaches with good snorkeling. A little farther down the road is a large horseshoe reef providing an idyllic location for skin diving, scuba diving and swimming. 'Tunnels,' of surfer's paradise fame, is among the best located here. Just down the road is K'ee Beach, with additional fine swimming and snorkeling.
Bali Hai is Calling: The home is set well back from the road, with few close neighbors. Coconut, papaya and many varieties of bananas landscape the property. While it is not directly on the ocean, the view of the Kauai's Na Pali Mountains (Makana-Bali Hai) is spectacular and can be enjoyed in all its splendor from our private back deck.

Loved the tranquil beauty when I purchased this property and built our family vacation dream house here. We have owned this property since 1966, and chose to build a home that is very Hawaiian in character.
This is a unique Hawaiian Home that has a real island feel. Our guests love the birds that come to visit and the relaxing views. We have made this a very comfortable home for families and groups, with an open layout and large lanai for gathering and enjoying. It is very airy and feels very open.
This comfortable house is located in a stunning location that is about a 1 minute walk to the water for a morning/evening swim, a 10 minute walk to a fantastic snorkeling beach (Tunnels), and only a couple of miles from the start of the Na Pali coast trail and gorgeous Ke'e beach. The whole area is filled with lush forests and striking views and lacks the resort feel of Poipu or Kapa'a; the focus is entirely on the beauty of the land and the sea. We rented surf boards and surfed beginner waves in Hanalei when we weren't snorkeling. The large deck was a great place to hang out, the house was quiet and cool with the sea wind blowing through, and we had some great meals with the BBQ. It was a very clean and comfortable place to stay, and fun to be able to spend time with a group of friends there. Highly recommend!
Hale Lani is where travelers should stay who seek an un-manicured experience of Kauai and desire a sense of place and belonging.
My husband and I spent 2 weeks at the Hale Lani home in Ha’ena. We felt an immediate connection the minute we stepped through the door. The home is full of happy memories bouncing off the walls and zipping through the rooms, inviting all guests to add their own memories to the mix. Artwork adorns the walls and oil paintings capture the surrounding beauty, bringing the outside to you. In the evening light, you can actually see the movement of the waves in the ocean paintings! Gecko friends chirp you to sleep and cheerily wake you in the morning.
Upon waking, we sat on the deck, enjoying the sunrise and the views of Bali Hai crowned with a rainbow while listening to the serenade of all the local birds in harmony with the clicking music of palm fronds dancing in the wind. And each evening we sat in awe, gazing at all the stars that are usually missed due to city lights. The home is surrounded by banana trees, palms and fragrant flowering plants.
Every day we snorkeled at Ke’e, Makua (Tunnels) and our new favorite, Kepuhi Beach – all within walking distance. The only time we used our rental car was to drive to Hanalei or Princeville for groceries and even these brief trips provided stunning scenic views and walks along Hanalei Bay, counting distant waterfalls. One day we drove to the south shore to snorkel at Lawa’i (Beach House) Beach. It was a pleasant day-trip, but we left sooner than planned simply because we missed Hale Lani. It had become our home and we knew we had to make the most of our brief stay at this magical spot.
For two wonderful and dreamy weeks we belonged to Hale Lani and the surrounding area. We are holding on to the Aloha Spirit and still feel refreshed and renewed. Our hearts long to return.
Mahalo to Jim for allowing us to experience your home!
Our family of four adults and 3 kids stayed in this gorgeous, well-appointed home and had plenty of room to spread out. The home was cutely decorated with nice art work and lots of unique things and the kitchen had everything you could need. Just bring in the food you want to cook!
The owner keeps the home clean, and it is easy to maintain when you are there. Enjoyed taking showers outside when we came home from the beach to get the sand off, it is heated.
We spent alot of family time just enjoying the busy cardinals that came to visit us on the lanai. There is a Weber charcoal kettle grill that works well for the BBQ fanatics. Wished we had brought a sky chart to mark what we saw, since with no streetlights, you can see the constellations and Milky Way very clearly. But we did use the internet to find one to help us.
Loved the location, it is very peaceful there and I walked to the beach at least 3 times a day, and hardly saw anyone else at the beach serving the home. We drove to Kee Beach 5 minutes away often also and enjoyed picnicking and relaxing while the lifeguards kept an eye on the kids.
Snorkeling at Kee and Tunnels was a highlight of the trip, the variety of colorful fish is amazing. You can even see the fish at Tunnels if you just go in thigh deep near the reefs.
Highly recommend this for large groups traveling together! You get a very good value for casual living style home in this prime location. Lots of room to spread out downstairs with two living area and a kitchen at one side of the house and wet bar on the other. The upstairs two bed rooms are good for the kids! Gives good separation for the adults that may want to stay up later. It is a very functional house not a fussy house.
Owner was helpful with our logistics and has great helpful tips and also gave us back our full security deposit in a reasonable amount of time.
We have recommended this vacation and Hale Lani to all of our friends and hope to go back again with a larger group next year.
The home is not fancy, but has everything you need for a family. We used the BBQ on the deck and viewed the Bali Hai mountains most evenings. The outdoor shower was perfect for rinsing off after our days at the beach- which is just a short walk from the house. The kitchen is simply supplied with utensils, dishes, glassware and appliances. The home was designed in the 60's with a Polynesian style and contains many paintings of the plants, beaches and scenes in Kauai which add to its charm and uniqueness. For us, it was a perfect place to relax and take in the magic of lush, tropical Kauai. Banana plants, ginger, coconut trees and other native flowers grace the property and make it a very Hawaiian place to stay.
We had a very relaxing vacation at Hale Lani. The location is great, and it is peaceful. We enjoyed sitting on the lanai and counting the stars in the evening, and the views during the day off and head rainbows over Bali
Hai. The home itself is very comfortable, and will appointment. A very good value.
My husband and I always take an autumn vacation. This year we chose the island of Kauai and we invited a couple of friends to come with us. We like to relax, and enjoy the outdoors. The house in located on the north shore, about 50 min drive from the Lihue airport. We read a previous tip online about stopping in Hanalei (cute tourist town and some nice places for dinner-Hanalei Dolphin Restauarant) to pick up groceries before hand, which we did.
The house is set back from the road, which was nice. There are coconut trees lining the drive way and lots of banana trees. We are not in Kansas anymore! The back has a very large deck and beautiful view of the mountains and a pasture. The house was clean, and very open and spacious. There were beautiful paintings throughout. One of the reasons we decided to rent a house is so that we didn’t have to eat all of our meals out. It has a fully equipped kitchen. There is also an outdoor shower so we could rinse off after going to the beach and then sit on the deck and let the sun dry us off. I loved the lofts on each side. This would be a great place for a family reunion.
There was a nice long beach about a 5 minute walk from the house. We sunbathed, swam and even did a little snorkeling. I am an early riser so some mornings I would just go walking to look for seashells.
Like I said we love the outdoors and to go hiking. The trailhead to the Na Pali Coast is only 2 miles down the road! We read that it was a good idea to go early in the morning to find parking. We did the 2 mile hike (bring water and food) to the first beach (picnic). It was strongly advised not to go swimming at this beach due to rip tides so we obeyed that warning. The views along the way were absolutely spectacular! OMG! Where we parked also had a beach and a nice snorkeling area. The surf was down so, made our way over the reef and saw larger fish and a turtle!
It was a great place to unwind and relax. It is absolutely gorgeous. We were very sad to leave.
The Home is just a 3 minute easy walk to a semi-private fine white coral sand beach suitable for sunbathing, swimming and snorkeling. A vast variety of additional beaches and tropical pools suitable for swimming are nearby. Boating down the Na Pali Coast, helicopter rides, horseback riding, one of the world's top golf courses and tennis are available just a few miles away.
Makana Peak is a familiar sight, seen from Ha'ena Beach and easily recognized as 'Bali Hai' from the movie South Pacific.
Maniniholo Dry Cave (Maniniholo means 'swimming Manini fish') is about 300 yards deep. To get there, go to Ha'ena Beach Park on Route 560. Look for the cave on your left.
Wai'oli Mission House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, built in 1837 of coral limestone blocks. It is currently undergoing a second restoration, after which it will reopen for tours. Wai'oli Mission Hall and picturesque Wai'oli Hui'ia Church, founded in 1834, are nearby.
Other Activities: Please visit our webpage www.vacationholiday.net for our Google Map showing the great activites near Hale Lani, and our precise location.
Golf: We are close to the best golfing on Kauai! Kauai is home to three of Golf Digest's top ten courses in the state of Hawaii. Kauai's beautiful golf courses present more golf than most can play in a week's time. The prestigious Poipu Bay Resort Golf Course and the Kiahuna Golf Club are golfers favorites.
Since Kauai is a small island, all of Kauai's golf courses are within a relatively brief and always scenic drive from our home.
