This aesthetic studio/junior one bedroom apartment, has been enlarged to 700 square feet to maximize indoor space while retaining a step-out balcony. The double paned sliding glass doors open 2/3's of the way to give the sense of being on a balcony while indoors. The apartment has been freshly and exquisitely decorated in soothing tones of cream and mauve with touches of sea green and contains some beautiful art work by local artists depicting mostly local scenes. The furniture is very comfortable including the sumptuously comfortable king pillow-top bed, the cream leather sectional and new carpet and tile. The deep sleeping alcove leads to a large walk-in closet and can be separated from the living, dining and study areas by two sets of Japanese Soja screens. One wall is done in floor-to-ceiling mirror panel to enhance the views and light.
When you enter the apartment through an impressive tiled foyer, your line of sight goes deep to the San Diego skyline in the distance and the reflected view of the turrets of the Hotel Del Coronado which also appears in some of the art work in the apartment. Even the striped tub and shower curtain mimics the tents of the original tent city on which the building now stands.
La Sierra Tower is one of the most coveted of Coronado Shores' ten buildings as it sits directly on the Pacific Ocean with its own beach and is the closest of the ten building complex to the Hotel Del Coronado and its award winning beach. Immediately behind the building is a beach walk that takes you on the beach side of the hotel all the way to the center of town.
The building is also immediately adjacent to one of the four oceanfront pools and Jaccuzzis where you can swim, sun and cook out on one of the outdoor ovens.
An underground garage space is included as well as UVERSE fiber optic TV on a Sony wide screen, telephone and Internet.

After visiting my parents who bought an apartment in Coronado Shores, I found this adorable studio and have never had trouble renting when I couldn't be there. In 1993 I did extensive improvements and mounted a decorating scheme which has turned out to be quite pleasing to me and my guests. Then, a few years ago I did a 'push out' capturing much of the balcony space to create more indoor space but retaining a step-out balcony. I also replaced the sliders with double paned windows that open 2/3 rds of the way to create a very open feeling during the warmer months, and covered the windows with silent translucent electronic screens. I also updated the kitchen appliances and added a Euro hand-held shower in the bathroom. In addition I augmented the art works in the apartment to include several paintings of local beach scenes, some depicting the Hotel Del and Coronado Bay Bridge and two pastels in rustic frames by a local artist who sketched the scenes at Giverny, Monet's country home in France. A leading local interior designer came in one day to inspect the custom valence he had installed and proclaimed 'This is a sweet apartment!' I put my heart and soul into it and everyone, including Barbara Sinatra, believe it or not, has enjoyed staying in it. This September, 2013, I substantially upgraded the decor by installing new carpet and balcony tile, adding a cream leather sectional, a desk and chair and two lamps and other decorative accessories and the result is very pleasing. As for Coronado Island, what can I say, except that as a world traveler myself, having visited every continent in the world, Coronado is the place I most cherish of all others for its charm, its people, its great year round climate, and for being able to walk along the beach in the morning and at sunset when everything turns silver, thus, its name, the silver strand.
Bill Reynolds purchased this condo in 1977
My parents purchased an apartment in this complex to use during the summers following retirement. I was lucky enough to be able to afford my own apartment to stay in while they were in residence and have never regretted it.
There is so much to do in and around the San Diego area with its myriad ocean beaches and bay front attractions, not to mention the renaissance of San Diego itself, that it's impossible to list them all. But, as time goes by, Coronado itself emerges as the best of the best of San Diego living with its beach rated the best family beach in America, its great restaurants, its live equity theater, its community center and theater, its newly renovated movie theater and its Ferry Landing. San Diego has Balboa Park with its Shakespeare theater, the world famous San Diego Zoo, Sea World, the harbor front, the Gass Lamp district, Seaport Village and many more a short drive from the apartment. The year round climate is the best in the US and you can navigate to so many attractions without resort to a car since you are already in the center of the best of the best. When we approach our island home, as we reach the crest of the elliptical Coronado Bay Bridge, it is hard not to gasp at the beauty of the scene that unfolds of the bay, the ocean, Point Loma, and the turrets of the Hotel Del Coronado set against the emerald green of the Coronado Golf Course - it is the emerald isle and Xanadoo rolled into one spectacular image. No wonder it was the inspiration for the Emerald City in the Wizard of Oz!
Last February 2014, my husband and I had an unforgettable month in this 5-star Coronado Shores condo. We loved everything about our stay and suggest you should choose it without hesitation.
Condo unit: This unit is part of the 10-building complex which sits directly on the Coronado beach, and is nearest to the world-famous Hotel del Coronado. The Unit is light and airy; the wall of mirrors in the living room area makes the apartment seem quite spacious; and the view of the “del” and downtown San Diego is expansive and stunning. The furniture and art work done by local artists was chosen with care. Each contributes to a restful setting appropriate to a beach environment. The kitchen is equipped with everything one needs and more. There is a large flat screen TV with high definition cable service by AT & T that provides TV, PVR, and cable channels. Also available are a DVD and VHS player.
The bed features a high quality King Size pillow-top mattress which is incredibly comfortable. A washer and dryer are very conveniently located near the apartment. The property is beautifully landscaped. The complex was very clean, safe and not crowded. We utilized both the assigned indoor garage space and outside parking for our rented car.
We particularly enjoyed using the fitness center as well as walking on the promenade along the ocean. In fact, it is only a short walk past the del Coronado to the shops and restaurants on the town’s main street, Orange Avenue. We often left the car and explored Coronado on foot.
Bill, the owner of the unit, was full of suggestions about things to do and places to dine in Coronado. We joined the excellent public library (the murals are not to be missed and the collection of books and DVDs is marvelous); went to the live performance at the Lamb’s Theater; found the supermarket had everything we needed; and for the freshest produce and cheeses there is an excellent Tuesday Farmers Market. We even took the tour of the world famous del Coronado hotel.
Bill was most accommodating. We found it very simple to arrange our rental and he answered our queries immediately. The excellent climate, the lovely apartment, and the friendly small town of Coronado would be sufficient reason for anyone to spend many weeks. Yet a short drive over the bridge opens one to the many treasures of San Diego and vicinity. We can’t wait to return for an even longer stay.
You can have a great time in Coronado without ever leaving the island as you have beaches on both ocean and bay sides, great shopping, restaurants, live equity theater, community theater, every recreational facility on the premises, golf, bicycling, etc. right on the island. Short drives take you to a myriad of other attractions such as the San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Balboa Park, Symphony, Ballet, Opera, you name it.
