We are slightly younger than the average retiree to lakeside. In searching for a place where we would eventually retire, we found, visited and fell in love with lakeside in general and Ajijic in particular. Everyone we've met has been very friendly and helpful. The very kind neighbors on our street are quite tolerant of our poor Spanish and have offered to help. The whole vibe in the area is indescribable.
We look forward to the day when we can live here full time!
The Owner purchased this house in 2010
While there are gated communities and other properties in the various lakeside neighborhoods, this was our favorite as we love to sample the local life and live in an authentic Mexican neighborhood.
My husband and I love this neighborhood as well as Ajijic village. Our neighbors are very friendly and all look out for one another. There is a mixture of expatriates as well as locals on our street. There are wonderful restaurants, grocery stores, craft shopping and art galleries within walking distance. The weekly market, 'tianguis' is right around the corner! You won't need a car as the bus is a short two block stroll out to the Carreterra, but the home has off-street parking for two vehicles which is a rare find in village living. Movie theatres are a five minute walk to the Bugambilias shopping area and are inexpensive, clean and in English with Spanish subtitles.
This was our first visit to the Lake Chapala area and we have fallen in love with both this area and Casa Marcela. From my first communication with Mike, the owner, he was extremely helpful and responded quickly. The moment we walked into Casa Marcela, we felt at home. The entire home is decorated beautifully with some very nice local art. Furniture was very comfortable as was the king sized bed. Nari, the very sweet housekeeper, does a good job cleaning each week. We feel like we have been absolutely spoiled with all the outdoor space at this home. We love the terrace, the deck outside our bedroom and evenings in the mirador.
The location of this house is perfect, we loved being able to walk to restaurants, markets and even to the clubs for our nights out. Life in the village is not quiet, but it can be very peaceful in it's own way. You'll hear noise from the carpenteria, the voices of your neighbors up and down the street, and seems like there are always repairs going on at one of the houses in our street, and you'll know when your neighbors let their chihuahuas out each morning,. But you'll also enjoy the neighborhood children's laughter as they play in the street, the mariachi singer up the street when he rehearses for a performance, and the birds singing all around your house. If I had one negative comment about this location, it would be that the neighbors can be very haphazard with their parking. As this house is on a privada, if someone double parks no one gets through. In reality this probably only caused a problem about a half dozen times during our four month stay, and once I located the owner of the offending car they cheerfully moved it. But really a small price to pay for such an incredible experience of living in the heart of a beautiful Mexican village.
CASA MARCELA WAS PERFECT FOR MY WIFE AND ME--A SHORT 10 MINUTE WALK TO AJIJIC TOWN PLAZA--2 MINUTE WALK TO THE WED MARKET --WE WERE MET ON OUR ARRIVAL BY COCO (PROPERTY MANAGER) WHO WAS GRACIOUS AND VERY ACCOMODATING FOR OUR ENTIRE 3 MONTH STAY--SHE WAS THERE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT WE HAD.
THE HOUSE WAS VERY CLEAN AND EVEN BETTER THAN THE PICTURES THAT WE SAW ONLINE--THE COURTYARD WAS A GREAT PLACE TO LET OUR LITTLE DOG OUT TO PLAY AND WAS A GREAT PLACE TO HAVE BREAKFAST OR LUNCH--MY WIFE,S SISTER CAME FOR A VISIT AND THE CASITA WAS THE PERFECT LOCATION FOR HER STAY
WE HAD A GREAT STAY AT CASA MARCELA AND WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT-
This property is a short drive or bus ride to San Juan Cosala, which has beautiful spas and thermal pools for swimming. Mud baths, massages, etc.
