In the heart of Big Sur lies this wonderful refuge of a property. Located in Sycamore Canyon, this 1.74 acre retreat includes gardens and pathways landscaped with many large native Big Leaf and Japanese maples giving it an Asian accent. Several ancient old growth redwoods and a picturesque bridge over Sycamore Creek complete the scenic views. Each season here has its subtle yet spectacular moments. Autumn is especially notable with fiery colors of yellow, gold and red.
The house is warm, cozy and updated with modern conveniences yet understated. It is complete with a large bedroom providing views out to noble redwoods with the creek and architectural bridge below. It also has 1.5 bathrooms and a laundry room.
Prime Big Sur location
Perhaps most remarkable about this property is its prime Big Sur location. Less than a twenty -minute walk through live oaks, redwoods and fern grottos is Pfeiffer Beach, arguably one of the most beautiful beaches in California if not the world! Another twenty-minute walk in the opposite direction is the Big Sur Post Office and next door the well-known Big Sur Bakery. Walk up grab a NY Times and enjoy a warm fresh baked almond croissant with your cappuccino each morning! We think you may find this property is a real gem!

If you find yourself lucky enough to be heading to the amazingly beautiful Big Sur area, you would do particularly well to stay at this purely enchanted Getaway. The location is filled with unparalleled serenity and beauty. All nature surrounds you as you are nestled in this fabulously designed, spotless cabin filled with beautifully appointed creature comforts, surrounded with tremendous majestic views of enormous redwoods and stream. We appreciated the exquisite calm and pure remote feeling offered. Thank you so very much. We cannot wait to return, possibly in a completely different season.
We could not have asked for a more beautiful, tranquil setting! The cabin is spectacular, with all of the windows and sky lights, being able to view the redwoods from every room. So peaceful being able to have morning coffee watching the sun rise over the trees from the back porch. everything is high end. We enjoyed our 2 night stay, everything we wanted to do was in close proximity. Down to the beach one day and hiking in Big Sur, we loved the Tan Bark trail near Partington Cove! We enjoyed a great dinner at the Big Sur Bakery our first night, awesome menu. Thanks again Linda.
My husband and I came for 2 nights and wish we could have stayed longer, the beach is a 1 minute drive or 20 min walk and its one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been to. The cabin itself is well done. Lots of windows to enjoy the beauty surrounding it. I loved waking up to the view out of the big bedroom windows. No cell phone service was perfectly fine with me, I don't want to be on my phone when I'm here anyway. And there is a landline if you need. We look forward to coming back very soon!
When you book a cabin in a remote part of the country, you really have no idea what you are getting. I will try my best to describe the experience, as this cabin is really a special get-a-way spot that should not be missed.
Firstly, the location is remote and it is not. Yes, it is located 1 mile down a narrow (paved) wooded road with few neighbors and a great deal of wildlife, but once back on Rt 1, there are unique restaurants, taverns, vistas and hiking trails just minutes away. The road down to the cabin is narrow, paved and a bit uneven, but I made it down in a Mercedes SL, so anything short of an exotic supercar should be fine. The cabin is really easy to find and the directions provided are excellent.
You make the turn into the property onto a loose pebble drive that fits the woodsy landscape perfectly. The cabin sits atop a small hill separated from the main road by a wooden bridge. Once you arrive, it takes a moment to notice all the subtle touches that the owners have blended into the natural landscape: there is a fountain above the drive that fills the front of the house with the sounds of water; there are hidden seating areas tucked throughout the property, and several porches each with a different view and feel.
The house is perfectly done. Simple, tasteful and thoughtful. The decor is warm, but not busy and the abundance of windows allows the forest to be part of the experience even when you are inside. The abundance of windows also makes the small cabin bright and airy and seem much bigger. My favorite view is from the bedroom which has three large windows and a commanding view of the glen below.
The kitchen has everything you need, including a great Viking stove and oven that works very well. The owners have supplied everything you would need to prepare meals. All you need to bring is the food. If cooking is not you thing, there are really great restaurants just a few minutes up the road that will provide breakfast, lunch and dinner. The main bathroom is large and modern with two sinks, a large shower/tub and terrific water pressure. There is a second 1/2 bath in the bedroom, as well. The bed is very comfortable.
Each evening, my wife and I found ourselves on the bedroom porch sipping tea. This little veranda faces the forest and hillside and is absolutely silent as the sunlight disappears. This really captures the our stay to me.
We were only there two nights, but I am already planning our return!
I spent and inordinate amount of time searching through every hotel, rental property, and alternative accommodation in the Big Sur area before concluding that this cabin was an absolute standout and the ideal choice. I wanted to be very close hiking and not to have to do much driving once we arrived. And, coming down from the San Francisco peninsula, I did not want to go to the far end of BigSur but be in the middle of things and wanted to visit Nepenthe as a part of the trip.
While we initially felt this cabin was out of our price range, once I compared it to every other option available, it was clear it was an excellent value. In addition, because we had a kitchen, we had the pleasure and savings of being able to prepare simple meals right there. It is set up so you can prepare more elaborate meals, but we didn't want to take the time to do this.
It was such a pleasure to hang out in the high-end living room, bedroom, and take advantage of the lovely bathroom. It was cozy in front of the extremely easy to operate fireplace. And the views of the windows and to the skylights of the redwoods are outstanding.
We walked down to the beautiful beach at the bottom of the road twice in our three nights there. We hiked trails very close by, had breakfast once at the Big Sur lodge and once at the Big Sur bakery. We had a special meal at Nepenthe which is absolutely not to be missed. What a setting! Heading to the pleasure, I had taken out a book from the library about the history of Nepenthe and it was fascinating to read while visiting.
Well we did not meet Linda, she was a phone call away and I had to call her when I broke the key in the door. She was supportive and helpful and said she would take care of it all which she did.
We had a lovely time and I think this is by far the best place to stay in Big Sur.
When you arrive you will cry with tears of joy. When you leave you will cry with tears of sadness. The only question I had was when am I coming back?? Fantastic location, wonderfully kept place. If you're the nervous type after you pay for a place without having visited it first, don't be alarmed here. Take my word for it. This is a fantastic getaway. Linda was very nice and answered all of my questions promptly. I'm from LA and I needed to get some serious quiet down time. I can't express enough how great of a time we had. We will return! Thanks Linda!
