About BuckHeadLodge

Here we are working hard so you don't have to. :) We hope you enjoy this cabin. This cabin has a history and was once named How Great Thou Art by the wonderul Mr. and Mrs. Hanerd who are still in the area and are some of the nicest people. I hope we make them proud. Additionally, the cabin also was represented under the name Wapiti Lodge which was later used as a wedding location for some beautiful weddings. We like to think we have allowed the cabin to evolve like the families who were married here. Perhaps now they have children of their own and would like to come back and visit the cabin where they wed with their families, friends and children. We hope you enjoy the views, the cabin and the memories you'll make at Buckhead Lodge. We hope once you come here you'll want to visit more.

BuckHeadLodge purchased this cabin in 2010

Why BuckHeadLodge chose Gatlinburg

We chose Gatlinburg over several other locations because of the year round FUN that is here! Skiing in Winter, hiking in Spring, swimming and Dollywood in Summer and the magnificent foliage in Fall.

What makes this cabin unique

This cabin's location circumvents the downtown traffic in Gatlinburg but you can be in the 'thick of things' within minutes! Within minutes from Buckhead Lodge, you can be at the Aquarium in the Smokies, the National Forest, Dollywood, shops and restaurants. It really is centrally located and easy access from the Smoky Mountain National Forest Visitors Center at Wiley Oakley Drive. We hope you enjoy the peacefulness and serenity of this cabin with your loved ones!

Family Reunion Fall 2016

  • 4 of 5

5 households came together for a great week. The Lodge was clean and in good working order. Views were amazing. We cooked all but two meals in the lodge with no issues regarding equipment, utensils, or capacity. Frankly I was surprised that our diverse group with kids from 12-3 yrs. all felt they had great space, entertainment options and comfort.

Family gathering in October

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is great for a lot of people. The deck and view are wonderful. The view makes the place. We had plenty of room for everyone. And we all got lots of exercise going from level to level haha. There are plenty of plates and utensils for ALOT of people. We cooked everyday and never had a problem finding utensils and pots and pans etc to use.

The theater room was fun to sit and watch football and a movie. Its a great room and I want one at home now :)

The bedrooms were all nice and look as shown in the pictures. The bathroom showers are a little small in some of the bathrooms, but they were fine for us. If you're a bigger person, you might have problems with a couple of them.

Overall the house and location are great. It needs a little TLC, but nothing that takes away from having a great time while staying there.

The only issue we had was the driveway. It is steep. We used the exit end to get in and out of because its not as bad as the entrance. In the winter, I could see where the driveway could be a problem.

Spacious and Wonderful Views

  • 5 of 5

Each year our student ministry typically goes on a Fall Retreat to the Gatlinburg area. We typically stay in a HomeAway rental property and always have a great experience. This year we stayed in the Buckhead Lodge and my students, chaperones and myself loved the spaciousness and beautiful views. There was plenty of sleeping and hangout room for our large group. The kitchen and dining area was a little cramped, but functional. The lodge is a short distance to Gatlinburg and other area attractions. Groups traveling in the newer 15 passenger transit vans will have a difficult time accessing the driveway from the entrance due to the angle and steepness of the approach. The vehicle drags the asphalt and gets stuck. We found the best way to utilize the driveway was to back into the driveway on the exit side (the left side if you are facing the lodge). We truly enjoyed getting to see a family of black bears, a mother bear and her three cubs) a couple of times. I would recommend the Buckhead lodge to anyone seeking a quiet, peaceful retreat atmosphere.

Owner's Response: Hi, Jim! :) I’m glad y’all had a great time. We had a total of 27 of us at Thanksgiving a few years back and had a great time hanging around the kitchen/dining room, too. Glad to know about the newer version of the passenger transit vans…I try to keep informed of changes with vehicles to steer them to the correct cabin. Thank you for that feedback. We’d love to have y’all back again in the future! Just let me know when. :)

Amazing view and loved the cabin

  • 4 of 5

The view was outstanding and entertainment from the bears each evening and the morning of departure was interesting for sure. The cabin was outstanding and we would love to come back. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is this. The bathroom off the bedroom beside the theatre was not cleaned when we arrived. Still had dirty towels in it the bath tub. Fortunately we did not need that bedroom for our group. When we stripped the beds before departure we found some very unsightly stains on the mattress covers, not sure what they were and it would have been great to have had a dust pan when we swept the kitchen floor. These are not deal breakers as they could be easily fixed with the housekeeping crew that follows up behind each rental guest. The driveway is very very steep and you really have to be careful on it.

Owner's Response: I’m glad y’all loved the view and the entertainment from the bears. It is definitely a treat to behold! I’m glad y’all enjoyed the cabin itself as well and we’d love to have y’all back again. We strive for 5 so 4 is a fail. We already have an independent inspector who comes behind the cleaners so I am quite baffled and annoyed that not only did the cleaners miss something but the independent follow up inspector who has to walk right passed that bathroom to the theater room missed it? So this is has to be one of those moments when things get shored up a lot more regarding inspections and I will be taking this issue up with all of them as well as the mattress pads. While there today cleaning, however, we didn't see evidence of the towels being spoken of. The queen mattress pad that seemed to be troublesome has been replaced. Pictures from a guest when there is an issue is huge so if that I could have been provided visual documentation for training purposes. While I never want to hear things like this, it gives time to pause, reflect and tighten shortcomings in our systems. Also, at every season change, I replace a lot of things in the cabins, one of which is a broom and dust pan. Those items were replaced at the beginning of September so I never quite know where things go or perhaps just overlooked. We will get one there. As an owner, I want my guests happy so if a guest needs anything at all…just pick up the phone and call me so we can make it a 5 out of 5 experience.

Beautiful relaxing place. View was outstanding.

  • 5 of 5

We had a group of 16 adults from our church visit Gatlinburg for a couple days. We wanted a cabin where everyone would have their own bathroom. I haven't seen a cabin with 9 bedrooms & 9 bathrooms. I was very happy to find Buckhead Lodge. I was a little concerned about all the rules, but they were easy to follow. We cooked dinner & breakfast at the lodge, 3 tables & bar stools provided plenty of seating, and the kitchen was well stocked. We had to contact Tari twice about a propane tank & location of braker box. She answered right away & saw to our needs. Road to lodge was very windy but WOW what a view it was worth the drive. We attended Biblical Times theatre, enjoyed the food & show. So good to see something that praises God in this day & time. My favorite part was setting on the porch with a cup of coffee & watching the sun rise. Plan to visit again. Thank you Tari!

Owner's Response: Marlene, my favorite part of the day at the cabin is in the morning with a cup of coffee! It's the BEST! It was a pleasure working with you!
