This charming home in the heart of Asheville recalls the elegance of bygone days. The ground floor has a full 1250 square feet of private space, including 2 large bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room with sleeper sofa, and a large, fully equipped kitchen and dining area.
Green Gables of Asheville, restored by the Interior Designer/Owner, features high coffered ceilings and original period details throughout. Each of the two large bedrooms has its own wood-burning fireplace and seating area. The living room, furnished with the comfortable elegance of 1920's period antiques, features a third fireplace and a large flat screen with high definition cable TV and DVD player. There are beautiful antique chandeliers, ceiling fans, and restored heart-of-pine wood floors throughout.
The large second bathroom (en-suite master bath) features twin lavatories, a shower, and a deep soaking tub in a separate alcove with an antique stained glass window and candle sconces on the tumbled-travertine walls. The porcelain floor tiles are heated. Plug cell phones and computers directly into special wall outlets for recharging.
Green Gables is CLOSE TO EVERYTHING – so take a break from sightseeing or shopping to relax on the huge wrap around porch. Sit in the romantic swing that overlooks the gardens or dine al fresco, and watch the dozens of birds that frequent the bird feeders all day long. The porch is the place to gather on balmy summer evenings to watch the moon rise and to soak up the relaxing, candlelight atmosphere.
Maps and activity guides are provided to help you plan your days and evenings. The home is provided with every convenience – soaps, shampoo and luxury towels, cable TV and CD player (IPod ready), lots of board games, entertainment libraries, wireless high-speed internet, unlimited long distance telephone, a fully equipped gourmet kitchen with outdoor gas grill, cribs and high chair for babies, and luxurious linens and pillow-top mattresses that promise a restful night’s sleep.

Shoppers will love the boutiques and the charming, eclectic shops. Many antique stores and warehouses are located less than 10 minutes away – an antique hunter’s paradise with bargains galore. You can walk (15 minutes) to a great organic grocery store. The area is also great for sports enthusiasts. It's a 15-minute walk to one of the best clay tennis courts in the US and a 10-minute drive to the nearest golf course. Great biking - level bike paths near the house (including Biltmore Estate bike paths), and hilly terrain in town and on the Blue Ridge Parkway. There is even a skateboard park within walking distance.

Met all my expectations and more .
I knew as soon as I made my reservations that Green Gables would be wonderful and it was everything I expected. Georgia made sure everything was perfect from cookies on the kitchen table to wine on the coffee table. The house was impeccable and the wrap around veranda was a wonderful place to sit and rest after a day of touring Asheville. The beds were very comfortable, bathrooms so clean, quality sheets & plenty of towels. The kitchen well stocked if you wanted to cook in and Georgia provided milk, bread and assorted cereals to start off our day. I look forward to returning to Green Gables again and have recommended it to my friends and even a tourist at The Biltmore.
Great location. The house is beautiful.
The house is perfect-comfortable and elegant! My friends and I really enjoyed our down time there.
Georgia is a gracious host, willing to answer questions and give information without being at all intrusive of your privacy —very appreciated!
The home, porch and gardens were beautiful! Georgia had a welcome letter, bottle of wine and home baked cookies waiting for us. A large binder in the home had all kinds of information on Asheville. We enjoyed the Biltmore, Pisgah National Forest, and downtown area breweries and restaurants. Our host was just a call away if needed, but was not intrusive. We came home Saturday night to twinkle lights lit up on the large wrap around porch.
Home away from home
Georgia has created a wonderful home with thoughtful touches that made our stay comfortable and relaxing. It was everything we could have asked for. A quiet residential neighborhood, yet still in the city and close enough to walk to the downtown area restaurants. She has decorated the home with all the special items needed to make you feel at home. We were able to cook morning meals and relax before heading out for a day of exploration. She lives upstairs, but you hardly every hear her, and she is not intrusive although available if needed. The home itself is charming and we LOVED the radiant heat in the master bath floor! Can’t thank Georgia enough for helping to make our stay perfect! We’ll be back!
Excellent location and dog friendly
Green Gables is an excellent place for a stay. Centrally located to downtown and the Biltmore House, it is easy access to all things Asheville. Additionally, the house is perfect for dogs of all sizes. The big fenced in front yard and enclosed patio gives them plenty of space to roam around. The house itself is cozy and each bedroom has enough space even for a large crate. Overall, recommend if your dog needs a vacation as well. Here are some other highlights and lowlights to consider:
- Georgia the owner is fabulous and will keep you well informed before and during your stay
- Great location, central to everything
- House is spacious and the kitchen has plenty of room for cooking
- Nice spots on the porch or out back to relax
- Parking is at the back of the house and can be a little tough to manage if you have larger vehicles. Street parking is available.
- Beds are not very comfortable and small if you're used to King sized or larger beds
One final item - parking in Asheville is horrible so I suggest you Uber most places you go. If you must drive, go downtown early to find a good spot and remember parking on the streets is free after 6pm on weekdays.
