My wife Theresa and I were introduced to Black Lake 18 years ago. We fell in love on the first day there and decided that when the time was right we would own property on the lake. We were fortunate enough to find these wonderful cottages that we can not only use when travelling to the lake with family and friends, but that we can share with other families so that they can enjoy the lake as much as we do.
Kent and Theresa Newbright purchased this cottage in 2014
We are an ideal place for families to gather. The separate cottages allow everyone to enjoy being together, yet still have their own space when it's time for a quiet nap.
This is the best side of the lake in summer. The wind generally comes out of the west, and we have a hill protecting us. It is typically calm here and wavy on the east side when the wind picks up. Walk out over 300 feet with a gradual depth increase over hard packed sand. This gradual increase is great for kids.
We have a hot tub for 4 if you're getting cold or want to have some time away from the kids and just relax. We are on a quiet safe side street, not the main road (Black River Rd.). You are close to everything; walk up the hill and across the road and there is a restaurant, the state ORV Trails, and sand hills. No need to go anywhere else! We have it all right here: fireplace, cable tv, outdoor hot tub in a screened-in gazebo. This property is perfect for youth groups, family reunions, or a girls' or guys' getaway.
What a beautiful winter week we spent with family. We snuggled by the stone fireplace with the white birch logs and 6 hrs logs you provided, thanks. Enjoyed ice skating and had a peaceful holiday. Thanks again for allowing the outdoor Hot tub to be on for this week. We drained it. Everything was cozy love the Wool Baffle on the beds.

We booked with Debbie for Labor Day Weekend and it was the perfect end to the summer! At first we were skeptical, never having booked a cabin before, we weren't sure what to expect. Would the place be clean, run down, as described, etc. Well this exceeded any expectations we had or could have hoped for! The cabin was exactly as described, beds were comfortable, interior was clean and well taken care of. There were even more amenities than we thought! The outside Spa was wonderful, the lake was gorgeous and you are so close to everything that 4 days was not enough time. I would recommend working with these owner as they are honest, easy to work with and they work hard to ensure you and your family has an enjoyable stay! We will be repeat customers that is for sure!
Thank you Debbie for making the end to our summer a wonderful experience -we will probably see you again this fall and definitely again in the summer!!
There were 12 of us, 6 adults and 6 kids. They loved that they could run outside and go right in the water..3 were from Az...so they were even impressed with the drive in..they asked if it was a forrest..had not seen some of those kind of trees..they are usually in pools so the lake was huge to them, the clear water, the clean rippled sand was also a plus, nice and shallow for the kids....they kayaked, swam, loved jumping from the raft, they all caught fish from the pontoon..leery of it at first..but loved it..we went for rides every evening, had bonfires every night, roasted marshmallows, played in the sand..they were in the water from 10am till 9pm. We all had a great time..grilled almost every night, just sat, relaxed and loved it.Black Lake was our vacation for almost 20 years when our boys were young,,now they are in their 40s..brought back so many memories..the fans kept us cool..we had some hot days too and the shade was wonderful..lots of outside swings, chairs for the fires...would recommend it..esp. for children...the clear water and front yard was perfect....Kent and Theresa were very nice, and thoughtful in wanting us to enjoy ourselves..and WE DID..maybe another year..hope so.
The cottages were on the small size which was okay since not all of our party came, and you don't spend a lot of time inside. There was no place to put grocery items except what needed to be placed in the frig. We did most of our meals at the cottages and had to place items on the floor in bags or our storage container.
It was very quite and peaceful, no one on the lake except a jet-ski or two and a couple fishing boats. It was perfect for our 5 year old grandson, he could walk out to the swim dock with Pa and the water never went over his waist.
Other than the pontoon issues, it was a nice week and we would go back at another time.
we didn't want to leave. my sister and I rented this property together to gather our kids and grandkids for some lake cottage fun. we picked black lake as my aunt and uncle have had a cottage up there since the 50s and we always enjoyed ourselves when we visited as kids. we were attracted to this property as the 2 separate cottages gave each family its own domain, yet we were close and shared the outdoor space. the listing description was very accurate and we were very pleased with our accommodations. there are plenty of attractions in the area but we mainly stayed at the cottage to make the most of the tranquil setting. black lake is a large lake yet not over crowded with boats and jet skis. it is the perfect lake for little ones as it is very shallow at shore and makes a gradual increase in depth. beautiful sand all the way out. the owners have provided a very nice book with all info re the cottages and local shopping and site seeing. they were very available, patient and kind. we were so happy with the cottages that we have already rented for next summer.
I stayed for two nights with three friends. Since we were a small group, Kent graciously rented a single unit to us for a very reasonable price. We stayed in the "Cayman Island" cottage. The decor was kind of a wacky hodgepodge, but it was delightful! There's a jacuzzi that's really kind of in the living room! While the interior of the cottage was compact, it was a fine space for four people. The beds were comfy, the kitchen had everything we needed. But the best thing about this place is the exterior. The waterfront area is beautiful, and it's mere steps from the back door to the lake. They have kayaks, canoes, a pontoon, and plenty of outdoor seating right on the lakefront. We also loved the hot tub and the fire pit. Overall, a very delightful place to stay!
Our family stayed in Aug 2014 for a week. We rented both cottages and great time. The cottages are older but clean and provide a relaxing setting for family fun. We used the outdoor hot tub daily which was nice as the weather was a little cool while we were there. We also enjoyed a day trip to Mackinaw Island..
