Great location and ammenities but needs a couple of updates

  • 4 of 5

My family previously stayed in this house about 12 years ago. It is close to pretty much everything that you need so great location. It is very spacious and had plenty of room for everyone. It was clean except for a foam mattress pad that was on the master bed, it looked to have a blood stain on it. Some of the issues that need some attention are one of the paddle boats was damaged and still on the property and my daughter didn't see the faint writing on the bottom that said it had a hole in the hull. It was not clearly marked anywhere else on the paddleboat. Luckily, it wasn't used long before it started to take on water and was not used again and no one was injured. The second issue was with a downstairs sink that would make a horrible sound when you tried to use the cold water. Third, which is somewhat funny, is how high a couple of the beds were. My 17 year old daughter who is 5'6" had to use a chair to get into one of the beds downstairs.

I certainly would not deter you from renting this house but keep be sure to read the contract carefully. I was asked to make an additional damage deposit that is not listed on VRBO. When I called VRBO, they said that things of that nature should be listed for payment up front and should not be done outside of their site. I did not make the additional deposit since I paid with a credit card and according to the contract since I paid with a credit card that should suffice as a way to charge should there be any damages.

We overall had a good time but sometimes it is the little things that make the trip great and we didn't have those little things.

Owner's Response: Dear Guests, There are TWO paddle boats on the property. We furnish ONE wonderfully working paddle boat for your entertainment. This is a WONDERFULLY WORKING boat with a Tom Sawyer RAFT included to pull behind this GOOD PADDLE BOAT. The BROKEN paddle boat was labeled "out of order". It remains upside down next to the concrete loading ramp to allow new guests to see the irreparable damage to the bottom that was caused by dragging the paddle boats on the concrete. We are on our 6th paddle boat with no help from past Guest. This information was labeled all around the boat and this guest still decided to test THE BROKEN BOAT. No mention of the fun she had with the GOOD PADDLE BOAT., the two KAYAKS, and the RAFT, all for our Guest’s pleasure. We only guarantee one paddle boat, two kayaks and the raft. She should not have tested the broken boat. There are NOT TWO TALL BEDS. This statement is dishonest. The bed that is higher than usual was purposely set that way to enjoy the view of the Lake. This is a king size bed in the downstairs bedroom with an extra top mattress. This could only be 10 to 12 inches taller than a normal king size bed. We hear from so many guests who just love this, including our Family. The 5'6" daughter story does not compute as I am 5'6 and have no problem climbing in this wonderfully tall bed and falling asleep to the view of the sparkling water . We could easily remove the top mattress but so many of our Guest love this idea. My housekeepers tried every way they could to make the cold water make a noise and could not. We tried also to no avail. We do not know what she is referring to as there is no noise. The confusion over the Damage Deposit was due to the fact that Homeaway began collecting the damage deposits and holding the CC for all of the owners and we had been using cc information to stand for our damage deposit, the normal way we have always handled this. This Guest made her reservation during this change over time with the new lease and as a result, she stayed with absolutely no damage deposit. HA had her cc with no deposit and we had nothing. We asked her to add a damage deposit through HA, but as we quickly realized she thought it to be out of the ordinary, so we did not pursue this issue any further. We looked on this as our problem and decided to take a chance on her without a damage deposit.

My family and I just spent a wonderful family vacation at the Wyeth house. It was set up perfectly for our family needs. There was absolutely nothing that we needed that wasn't already there. Becky the owner was very nice and accommodating whenever I had a question. We will definitely try and come back again next year

Beautiful home! We had an amazing time! Thank you Becky and Larry

  • 5 of 5

We were visiting Lake Guntersville for the second time. We came up from Florida to help a local congregation preach in the mountains of northern Jackson county! We had 18 people that all fit comfortably with plenty of room! The kids were at the lake most of the time floating on the barge and paddling the paddle boat! We highly recommend the Wyeth house! The only issue we had was a summer storm!

The home was not as nice as the pictures portray

  • 3 of 5

I've stayed in vrbo homes at least 10 times previous, and this is the first one I haven't given 5 stars. The pictures represent it in a much better light. It is very crowded with furniture and decor, and there is little room to move around each other. We stayed with my family of five, three young children. They couldn't play outside because there was poison ivy on everything-the house, the trees, all around the yard. It's not a good kitchen if you intend to cook---only 2 burners on the stove and very minimal cookware, even though vrbo houses are generally minimal-ish, this is worse than what would be expected. The lower level is really a basement, and musty, though that's expected near a lake. The layout is very congested, and the view of the water is actually at the very end of a creek, so it's reeds and grasses that you see rather than open water. There's no ladder on the dock, which makes for difficult swimming, but it's only about a couple feet deep, so swimming isn't ideal anyway. Many of the cushions and sheets/pillow cases are in rough/tattered condition. I imagine that years ago this was a very well-kept place, which has now fallen into disrepair. The house was clean, though, which is a big plus.

Early Thanksgiving stay

  • 5 of 5

We had an early Thanksgiving at this home. House was clean and in great shape. Our family loved the house and the kids had a blast in the loft upstairs. The kitchen was well stocked with supplies for cooking our Thanksgiving meal.
