Pottsboro House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-5)

Come stay at the Depot on Lake Texoma, a truly unique vacation destination. The Depot was built using old plans for an MKT Rail Road Depot. The Depot is furnished with a relaxed mix of antiques, train memorabilia, and comfortable furniture designed with your enjoyment in mind. A fully equipped kitchen with sub zero refrigerator, Jenn Air range, convection oven, and dishwasher bring the luxury of home to the relaxation of Lake Texoma.

Parked on a length of track alongside the Depot is the Missouri Pacific Business Car #3.

The car originally was built in St. Louis, MO. in 1927 to be used as a business car for Missouri and Pacific executives. It was rebuilt in 1947 and was in active use until it was dry-docked in a railroad storage yard in Sedalia, MO. in 1957. In 1965, Mr. E. B. Chapman of Sherman, TX bought the car to use as a guesthouse on his lots on Lake Texoma. He had the car shipped by rail to Pottsboro and then moved by flat bed truck to his lake lots and finally parked on a stretch of track. The MOPAC business car #3 is 81 ft 4 3/4 in long, 10 ft wide, 14 ft 8 in high and weighs about 135,000 pounds. The car was designed to accommodate 7 guests and two crew.

The train is not part of the rental, but tours of the train are available for Depot guests.

Why Susan Rawlins chose Lake Texoma

We have always loved the weekends camping, fishing and swimming around Lake Texoma after long weeks working in Dallas. In 1982 we bought the MOPAC train car and spend most every weekend staying in the train and enjoying the lake. As our family grew, we built the Depot in 1988 for the added comfort and space. After years of commuting between our jobs in Dallas and the relaxing lake life on the weekends, we decided to move our family to Texoma. We moved to the Lake in 1998 and enjoyed living in the Depot for a few years as we built our home. Since that time, family and friends have stayed in the Depot while visiting. Now we open our guesthouse to visitors to Lake Texoma. Whether for a weekend, a week, or even longer, you will enjoy your stay at the Depot on Lake Texoma. Our guesthouse is fully furnished and comfortable for a romantic weekend for two, spa weekend for the girls, or a fishing trip for the guys or a golf excursion for everyone or really any activity of your choice. We will be delighted to share our property with you. Tours of the amazing Missouri Pacific Business Car #3 can be arranged if you would like to see how the business men of the railroads traveled earlier in the last century. Please join us. Rest, unwind, and enjoy life at the Lake. Kindest regards, Richard & Susan Rawlins

What makes this house unique

Very Nice Get-Away

  • 4 of 5

The Depot was a unique place to stay...secluded, yet right in the middle of everything! We were 2 adult couples and we did not want to stay in one of the "fisherman" cabins that are abundant, but wanted something a little more upscale. This was perfect and the price was right! The decor is interesting, antique, and luxurious...all wrapped in one. We were welcomed with muffins, milk, coffee and OJ. We came to fish, and we did. The marinas are very close by. We also visited Hagerman Wildlife Refuge. Would definately stay here again!

A must see for all interested in railroad history! Very clean and elegant accomodations. Susan was great, being certain that we were comfortable and felt at home. We will be an advocate for recommending friends and others to utilize staying at The Depot!

Memorial Day 2012

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the Depot. It was nice to be close to home but far enough away to relax. Our sailboat excursion was wonderful. The interesting features in the Depot & the history of the Business Car were worth the trip. Thank you for the tour of the Business Car. So fun to see all the technology they thought of so long ago. We will definitely be back.

Seasoned Traveler

This was a great place to stay! There were 3 of us, 2 adults and a 14 yr young man. The train theme is very well done and the tour of the dinning car (of the train) is very cool. We loved the kitchen layout and we cooked on the grill as well as inside. Everything we read on the website was what we found at the place. No surprises. We also loved the area. We played disc golf at Munson park in Denison, TX (note, you will find the restaraunts on the West side of Denison on the highway). We also did the auto tour at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge, after stopping at their gorgeous new visitors center which is worth the stop. We also rented a pontoon boat for a very reasonable price and toured the lake! It's easy to drive a boat and they will show you how. There are also great restaruants right on the water - ask the owners! We wanted to do one of the many hikes, but ran out of time.
