Beachfront 2 BR 1 BA Cottage on Lake Huron
About Karen Cook
Residing in Texas, the Cook's love spending time at their home away from home, Bois Blanc Island.
Karen Cook purchased this House in 2003
Why Karen Cook chose Bois Blanc Island
Karen grew up spending summers on Bois Blanc, so when we had children, we wanted them to get to know the Island. The boys, like their parents have come to love and appreciate Bois Blanc with all its unique discoveries. We look forward all winter to spending our summers on the Island.
What makes this House unique
The privacy of Cook Cottage is what first attracted us to this property. The cottage is set away from the road, when we don't want to see or hear civilization, this is the perfect spot. The east end of the Island has beautiful sunrises and is close to Mary's Lake and trails for discovery. The beautiful view from the cottage down to Lake Huron provides an excellent view of wildlife including eagle, deer and the like. The cottage is bright and cheerfully decorated with a lighthouse decor. Nights spent viewing the Milky Way from our beach front is uniquely spectacular, as we don't have the light pollution from the mainland. Awesome!!

Better than we expected. Neighbors are close, but were quiet.
We were in heaven from the time we stepped off the boat!! Enjoyed the comforts of home with the benefits of being secluded. We felt comfortable at the cabin with all of the amenities of home. I have no words to describe the lake views. We made sure we were up in time to see the beautiful sunrises. We loved it so much that we bought a lot in the woods just down the street from the cabin. I will tell everyone I know that is interested in going to Bois Blanc Island about the Cook Cabin. Thank you so much for allowing us to have such a nice place to stay at an affordable price. I am sure we will be back and will bring our granddaughters to let them experience the wonders of Bois Blanc Island!!
I could have sat and stared out the back door for days. So much natural light. Such a great view. The cottage is clean with lots of seating for lounging. There's lots of information for staying on the island. The island itself, is tricky. All the roads are dirt and signage is hard. We ended up on a ATV track with our car! It took a few tries to find access to the lakes but it was all worth it. The store doesn't have a wide range so pack what you need. The people were super nice. Everyone waves as they pass. We saw deer, otters, tiny frogs, and monarchs. Kids loved skipping stones and swimming. Bring thick soled water shoes. My only suggestion would be to add some more outside seating for relaxing. Thanks for a great stay!
A cottage deep in the woods, yet right on the shore if Huron.
I loved the long wooded drive into the cottage. It is nicely built and insulated. It stays cool without AC. The lake is gorgeous. Beds are comfy. The walk to the
lake is rocky, my forty something
daughters had no problem with it. But at 70 yrs old, with my bad knee, I struggled a bit going up and down the rocky path.
My family and I had a wonderful time.
After attending a three-day conference on Mackinac Island, our four-night stay at Cook's beachfront cottage on Bois Blanc Island was just what the doctor ordered!
We found the cottage in perfect condition, nice and clean, and well-furnished. The online description by the owner was 100% accurate. We enjoyed the peaceful solitude and the waves lapping on the shoreline during the evening and night time, as we read and dozed in the well-appointed living room.
We visited Mary's Lake, the North Shore, the Bible Farm, Hawk's Landing Island Store, and Bob Lo Tavern. At both the store and tavern (twice!) we found the locals most friendly, helpful, and quite personable; a good time was had by both of us.
And we met the friendly next-door neighbors Pam and Dave, who invited us to join them at their campfire on the beach at sunset -- very mellow, and it was a pleasant social time.
We could of easily stayed another week there at the cottage, enjoying the view, the weather, and the most laid-back vacation in quite a while, but, alas, work and other family obligations called us to return to the mainland.
We would highly recommend this cottage and location to anyone wanting to take a few days respite from the stress and strain of daily living.
Please keep in mind that there's no WiFi at this location, but our cell phone and texting services (AT&T) worked well, allowing us to keep in touch with family.
Although we were two older adults traveling without children, I would note that there were enough activities to keep children occupied for a number of days -- DVD's and videos for the TV, games, puzzles, and children's books. Plus, swimming in the lake, some fishing and hiking activities, exploring the Huron lake shore, etc., should and would make for a wonderful family vacation.
Complaints? We have none -- it was a perfect, relaxing, and most wonderful four-day mini-vacation. And should there be any questions or a need for more info, please contact us.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to stay at Cook Cottage. Karen provided all of the info we needed in advance and answered all of my questions. The cottage was situated in a beautiful place with spectacular views of the sunrise. It was well stocked with linens & towels, and the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our meals m. There was even a helpful booklet with cottage & island info provided upon check-in. The beds were comfy and we even found games in the closet. We knew this time of year was bug season, but bug spray & netted hats took care of the worst times, while other times the bugs weren’t present at all. We drove 1 mile to the Coast Guard Chapel, visited Lake Mary, traversed Bible Road to the North Shore & viewed the sunset & Mackinac Bridge from the West end of the island. The water levels are high right now, so my kids could swim safely because it was shallow for a very long distance. The shore & water are rocky, so water shoes were helpful. The bottom was clean & the water was clear, so the rocks didn’t bother us at all. We enjoyed watching loons, geese & seagulls in the water & having campfires on the beach. The neighbors were friendly & gave us a heads-up about the moon rising. I’ve never seen anything as unique as the moon rising from the horizon of Lake Huron! I’ll never forget it. I highly recommend Cook Cottage to others seeking a quiet retreat.
I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Cook Cottage on Bois Blanc Island. You are right the moon rising over Lake Huron is truly a memorable sight. You are welcome back anytime!

Accessible only by car ferry or airplane, a car is required for the Island. One General Store/Gas station/Restaurant with internet access serves the Island. Provisions should be purchased on the mainland and brought with you. Alternatively, stores in Cheboygan can pack and send groceries/supplies on the ferry for a small fee. Please note: Ferry only accepts cash or personal check, NO credit cards.
Other Activities: Miles and miles of hiking trails, inland lakes and beaches to explore. Freighter watching is a favorite past time - day or night! Without all the city light pollution, we are in a prime spot for star gazing.
