My husband and I live in Maine. We built this home for our children to experience Maine Highlands living. We enjoyed it for many years and now rent it as our children are in high school and very busy. We miss getting up there but have so many fond memories of biking, boating and just enjoying what Maine is all about. I work at a local bank and my husband is a millwright. We work very hard to provide a clean and well equipped rental.
Diane Perry purchased this house in 1996
Great for multi family vacations. You will most certainly see wild life and can cruise on endless dirt roads for county viewing. We always have great comments on how well equipped it that it is a great rental, clean and comfortable. Great for teenagers with the finished basement and so much space to have fun on a rolling lawn at the waters edge. CLEANEST lake in Maine.
Large, comfortable, well equipped, waterfront and a large lot of land with lots of privacy, yet not too far from Greenville. You will love this for a great family vacation.
My family and I had a wonderful week at the lake side home. The view from the front of the house was absolutely spectacular. The best I have seen. The house was cheerful, spacious and very comfortable. We enjoyed playing games on the front lawn to swimming out far in the very clean water. I could go on and on about the amenities in and outside of the house, the beauty of the lake, mountains etc. and so on. The property was everything you said it was plus more. Thank you for returning the security deposit so promptly. Sincerely, David
The owners were great to deal with, description of the property was very accurate.
I would definitely recommend for friends.
The property was very nice, a few hundred feet back from the lake with a sloping lawn down to the water and dock. There was plenty of parking and the directions were very clear to find the property. The house is very spacious with an open layout on the first floor and a bathroom with laundry on that level. The basement though slightly damp had plenty of space and a bathroom. Upstairs the 4 bedrooms and 2 baths were spacious and well laid out. The property is great for big groups and everything is in good condition. The house is well stocked with many items. The house was very clean.
The beach area has a gravel bottom with a gradual entry and is good for swimming. The dock is large enough to accommodate a good sized boat, though is a bit shallow for deeper draft boats. Likely up to 23' would fit depending on style. The dock was well protected and despite a few windy days there was never a time when we had to move the boat or worry about it on the dock. Location is very private on a dead end road with a few other camps. Plenty of wildlife with both deer and moose on the entry road and loons in the lake.
Owners were responsive and professional and a pleasure to work with.
Thanks for a great time, we'll likely be back in future years!
The house was exactly as described which was appreciated! The kitchen was well stocked with spices, silverware, plates and everything you need for vacation, just add your groceries. We appreciated the big table that allowed the whole group to sit for dinner as well as play cards. The 2 living rooms provided more than enough seating and the views were amazing!!
Being able to use the pedal boat was great, we also rented kyaks from a store in Greenville. Definitely loved the fact we were able to have access to the water, but bring bug spray, they are huge and plentiful!
It rained a few of our days but the house was spacious enough for everyone to spread out and not get antsy. Great space for teens in the basement area that is equipped with sectional sofa sleeper and 2 other beds. They liked the games and extra tv, so this was a HUGE plus for us!!
There is a little country store on the corner by the marina this is a great place for extras you forgot and even a place to get hot food!
We saw SO many moose and a few black bear. The kids were excited to drive out and about to see the wildlife.
Run into town and check out The Mud Puddle Mercantile, the clerks are amazingly nice and the store is very inexpensive. The Black Frog is nice to eat as well.
Our party of 9 was extremely happy and this was a perfect house for us. You will have no regrets and the owners are friendly and easy to get in touch with. Enjoy your stay!
PROS: Our family spent 1 week at this home, It was beautiful, relaxing and one of the best vacations we have spent as a family. Between the games, libraries of books, water activities and toys everyone had a great time. There is plenty of space if you need your own space...Three of the bedrooms had beautiful water views and a large patio with plenty of seating...you could spend the day just looking out at the water. When inside the kids spent most of their time in the finished basement playing and never once got bored. When outside we enjoyed the water, picking fresh raspberries, campfires and watching the fox visit nighly. The home is in a very calm cove that is great for any watersport with Mt Kineo and other great areas of moosehead lake within a few minutes distance. Moosehead lake is a large lake, If venturing outside the cove the lake can get very rough, I have heard that certain times of the day are better then others. Canoeing just a few minutes from the home (inside the cove) you may get sightings of Moose at dusk. There is a small country store less then 10 minutes away where you can get about anything you may have forgotten along with the famous Indian Hill Trading post aprox 30 minutes away. The Sunrises are Spectacular. CONS: TV/DVD/Satallite service was difficult to use-Operating instructions would be helpful. No Cellphone service. Cleaning fee should be included in the rental fee. Suggestions: Bring two wide baby gates if you have young children. WE WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE for any getaway as there plenty to do for the one who just wants to relax and read to the one who wants to get out and enjoy the outdoors.
Golf: Katadin (Maine's highest mountain) and Baxter State Park via the Golden Road. See an assortment of wildlife on hundreds of miles of unpaved road.
Outdoor activities include swimming, mountain biking, climbing or hiking (the Appalachian Trail). Go boating on Moosehead and other nearby lakes. There is also white water rafting and kayaking offered through local rafting companies. Greenville has a 9 hole golf course and many restaurants and shops including the Maine Guide Fly Fishing Shop. Fly-in for the Greenville International Seaplane Fly-In or charter a plane from a local company.
September through December-
Fall is the prettiest season to sit back and enjoy Maine's beautiful multi-colored foliage. Hunters can hunt for Moose, Deer, Bear, Coyotes, Rabbits, Ducks, Grouse, or Woodcock. Nearby Rockwood and Greenville are one of the best hunting areas in Maine with many registered Maine Guides available. September fishing is one of the best times to fish for big lunkers.
Ski: Contact owner for local fishing and hunting information and equipment availability.
Area: Our home is located 4 miles from a paved highway in a quiet area of shorefront. Moosehead Marina, Moosehead Bait Shop and Snowmobile Rental, and Moose River General Store is approx. 31/2 - 4 miles away. Quebec, Canada is approximately 40 miles away and Quebec City is approx. 3.5 hour drive. Mount Desert Island is approx. 3.5 drive. Approximately 3 hrs from Portland and the jetport. Approximately 2 hrs from Bangor and jetport. Approximately 5 hrs from Boston.
