Papakea Resort holds the record as the least dense resort on the west side - with 11 low-rise buildings on 13 acres. It has a wide open, uncrowded feel, and offers lots of free and fun amenities, lush tropical landscaping, pools & spas, 2-18 hole putting greens and grassy sunning areas. Rent directly from us, the owners, for the best Value and care.
Our one bedroom, one bath condo (#A-202) is direct oceanfront, on the second-floor for privacy while providing exceptionally easy access to the pool and spa below. The 'A' building is the most private and quiet ocean front building at Papakea. It's close to parking, and close to the stairs. There is an elevator down the hall. The building is very close to beach access where the swimming is good. The ocean is only about 15 feet from the lanai!
The condo is nicely appointed and fully equipped, with all the appliances and amenities you desire and need. It is one of the few units in Papakea with A/C. Also, there are ceiling fans in every room, including the kitchen! We provide beach towels, a cooler and beach chairs to further enhance your comfort. There is free wi-fi. We manage it ourselves and live right here on Maui, so you can easily contact us should the condo require anything.
Papakea Resort has great amenities and is within easy walking distance to a big grocery store, restaurants, farmers markets and shops. It's on the north end of Kaanapali Beach, one of the best and most famous beaches of Maui. You can access miles of sandy beach just across the grass and walk bridge to the south. The views from our condo are spectacular! From the lanai and living room, you look directly at the island of Molokai and you also have a view of the island of Lanai to the south. Enjoy the energy, sights and sounds of the ocean and surf so close to you, see whales breeching right in front of you all over the channel (During whale season of course. Bring binoculars for extra close up views!). It's a lovely place to relax, rejuvenate and recreate!

I have lived on Maui for 10 years, my husband has been here about 30 years. He runs a dive shop in Lahaina, Dive Maui / Hawaiian Rafting Adventures, and that's how we met - I did some dives with his shop on my first visit to Maui, in 1994, and the rest is history. For fun, we usually do dive vacations around the Pacific Rim - we've gone to Tonga, Fiji, Indonesia, PNG, Tahiti and Micronesia. We have lots more on the to-do list. When here at home, we work super hard - he in the dive business, and me with the rental properties. We enjoy our three dogs, gardening, and exploring the Hawaiian Islands.
Jan Hendrix purchased this condo in 2002
When I moved here, my family decided that they wanted to buy some condos at the Papakea (we own 4 now!) and that I would operate the business for them. I love this work! I get a lot of satisfaction out of helping you make the best memories possible each and every time you visit Maui.
What a wonderful place to spend our 3 weeks in Maui. Everything we could have asked for. Location was close enough to enjoy long walks on the boardwalk, or head the other direction to grocery stores, restaurants and the Farmers Market. ABC Store for quick purchases of any kind, was also a very short walk away. The pool and grills were just a few steps from our condo. We enjoyed the tennis courts and made use of the concierges, who were both eager to help and very knowledgeable. Be sure and go to the orientation the first morning there. Very helpful in learning about different activities around the Island. The condo itself had everything we needed, from a nice size bathroom, comfy bed, coolers-beach chairs-beach towels, books, etc., to use for day trips or beach sitting, washer and dryer in unit, to kitchen necessities for cooking the fresh fruits, veggies and fish purchased at Farmers Market, and the Fish Market nearby. Jan was just a phone call away, the one time we had a question, and was very helpful with all her information sent to us before we got there. Definitely a place we would recommend, and go back to again and again!
We had a gap between two timeshare units, and found this unit based on our previous experience staying at the Papakea. We're really glad we found it.
First and foremost, the owner was a delight to deal with, from the reservation until departure.
The Papakea is a really delightful property, with spacious grounds (rare on Maui), easy walking distance to shops and the Farmer's Market, and an ABC store just through the gate from the office.
We mostly sat on the lanai, enjoyed the view, and watched for passing whales.
We'll be back.
This was our first time staying on the western coast of the island, and at Papakea. The condo is VERY nice - comfortable bed with a memory foam topper, good sized bathroom, and spacious living room. The kitchen was fairly well stocked, having a full sized refrigerator, plenty of dishes and silverware, pots and pans (could use a small quart pot), a good variety of cooking utensils, and even containers for leftovers. The cooler bag and ice pack in the freezer made it very easy to pack food with us when we went exploring for the day. The beach towels provided (4 of them) were big and sturdy. The lanai looked out over the ocean (from the 2nd floor); the unit is right near one of the pools. The pools on the property are beautiful and well maintained, with plenty of pool chairs. There are 6 Weber gas grills around each pool, making it very easy to cook outdoors.... an extra benefit of the resort. We found this to be a great place to stay.....reasonably priced, well stocked, the resort staff was very knowledgeable, and the property manager very accommodating. We'd highly recommend this for your stay on Maui.
We had wonderful stay looking forward to my next stay. The condo had everything you need, just bring your bathing suit. Papakea has well kept grounds.
As soon as we walked in and saw the view we knew we picked the right place. We went to Maui with plans of doing this and that, but once we sat on the lanai and saw the whales breaching right in front of us we had a hard time leaving the condo. When we did go to the beach it was so convenient because we already had towels, beach chairs, a boogie board and snorkels that were in the condo. It was nice to walk to the nearby restaurants in the evening for dinner. We really enjoyed playing golf and shuffleboard too. Jan made everything so easy from planning our trip to saying goodbye to our home for the week. We will be back again!
Papakea is a terrific resort and this condo has a wonderful direct ocean front view, great for whale watching or just lounging with a good book. It was clean and comfortable but without fancy upgrades like granite or marble countertops. That just made it more affordable. Equipped with extra towels for the pool, a cooler, snorkel gear, etc. There is a grocery store within walking distance if you want to go carless (the bus stops in front for trips to Lahina). We highly recommend the nearby Maui Fish Market for good eats. We would definitely stay here again. The owner/manager, Jan, was easy to work with.
Three tennis courts on site; Tennis Pro available, round robin tournaments weekly; Shuffleboard; 2 18-hole putting greens; 2 pools; 2 jacuzzies; free yoga-lates and water arobics classes throughout the week.
