This has been my home since I retired in 2004. it is great place to enjoy the up north. I'm hope every one enjoys their stay as much I have. I'm living in Bay City, Mi. only one hour away with my family Shelly and daughter Alexis.
Paul Bailey purchased this cottage in 2002
There are 60 lakes in this area. This is the the most friendly of all. It is so beautiful any where you go, and so much to do.
Morning coffee, while listening to the Loons, cozy surroundings, great people. lake is perfect for what ever you may want to do.
My family was very excited to stay at the cabin. Paul, the owner was always quick to respond to my questions and very nice. We have 3 little kids (6, 4 and 12 months) so the most important thing for us is having a sandy beach and clear water that the kids can play in. That was the first question I asked the owner about. He assured me that the beach was sandy and that the water was clear for about 15 feet and then soft. The beach was sandy but the water was anything but clear. There wasn't even 1 foot of clear water. It was literally covered with thousands of snails and muck. The soft he mentioned is piles and piles of seaweed. I contacted Paul and asked if we could have a rack, I was hoping to rack some of the snails so the kids could splash. He responded quickly that he had a landscaper coming out the next day. When the landscaper came, he raked all the nice sand, but no snails, weeds or water. I was sooooo bummed. So much for a relaxing week of sitting in the sand and watching our kids splash. I tried not to let it get me too down, it was a week long vacation after all. On the bright side, we had the pontoon boat. The boat was huge and comfortable. We took the kids to the "sandbar" to play. We all jumped in to play but quickly realized that it would be tricky to get back into the boat, because there wasn't a ladder for the boat. The sandbar is also kinda mucky, not what I would describe as soft sand.
The cabin over all was some what clean when we arrived. It looked more like it had been lightly cleaned. The shower had used bar soap and someone else hair ties. When we went to put our groceries away, there wasn't any space in the cupboards. They are all full of (very disorganized) tupperware, random utensils and half working appliances. Not too welcoming. I felt like I was invading someone else space, rather than a welcomed guest.
The rooms were small but ok. I went to put our clothes away in the dresser but every single drawer was filled with mattress covers, sheets, pillow cases. Literally no space. None of the beds were made. The comforters were on the beds, but we had to put the sheets on. Hardly the last thing I want to do after traveling 3 hours in the car with 3 little ones. The beds were also not very comfortable.
Over all we were super bummed by the whole experience. If there wasn't a boat I would have called the owner and asked for a refund. We ended leaving a day early because we couldn't sleep in the beds any longer.
Our young family of 5 stayed there at the very end of the summer. We were very pleased with the home and our time spent there! Paul was very kind and helpful. Upon our arrival we had all the fixings for a weeks worth of s'mores. The house was just right for our family. It was very clean and had everything we needed in the kitchen and home for our stay. The boat was wonderful and we had alot of fun going out daily in it cruising and fishing. The smaller lake was just perfect for our young family and what we needed to do. The sunsets and sunrises were just beautiful to watch on the water. There was even a paddle boat to use, which was loads of fun. The property was very clean and well kept, with a huge supply of wood for evening campfires. Our kids also had a blast playing in the large sand pit area. We enjoyed eating at the Main Street Pizza and BBQ and had delicious ice cream/coffee at the Victorian Cafe. We enjoyed taking in all the beautiful scenery on the scenic byway and took a boat raft tour on the AuSable River, which was just breathtaking. We loved being away from all the main stream of life and enjoying the peaceful and beautiful nature. Back at the vacation home we did have WIFI and cable tv...so we still could connect if we wanted too :).
This was our second stay - we liked it so much we came back for a second stay. The house was clean, had all the household items you need for a week stay, including washer and dryer. Paul made sure we had plenty of firewood for our nightly bonfire with S'more's - he so graciously left all the makings for on the kitchen table for us when we got there! The pontoon boat was really nice, ran great and very clean!! It all made for a very relaxing week!
Clean - Organized- Professional Service- Safe- Location
Lots of great things have been said in other reviews and I will ditto them all.
Paul is the best owner I have ever dealt with- he really goes overboard to make it a great vacation for his guests.
The boat is awesome and used for everything.
Caught bass and pike. Lots of sunfish off dock for little ones to catch with a worm or wad of bread on a hook. They jump right on.
Power went out one night an full house generator kicked in and kept everything running. Central air was great for sleeping.
Paul gives you more wood than you can burn in a week - we tried.
We used paper plates to save washing.
Everything had instructions clearly labelled.
We brought a utility trailer for bikes and toys ect.
Room in driveway to park no problem.
I have rebooked for next year.
Good Time - The Burtons
Where do we start. All we can say is Paul (Owner) had all the basis covered for this rental. From the reservation process to the day we showed up, Paul definitely had it all covered with the amenities and the accommodations for this place. There was even a welcoming gift when we arrived. The big hit was the Pontoon boat. We used it for everything. Tubing, Fishing, Strolling the lake, Sunset cruises and simply just hanging out at the Sandbar for the day. The cottage had everything we needed to make our stay Just Right and Enjoyable! There was 9 in our party and the ages ranged from ages 11 to 82. Everyone had a Great time! The location of the cabin in relation to our residence was just the right distance for traveling. My brother-in-law is an avid outdoorsman, he indicated that the Fishing was Extraordinary and we even had a Fish-Fry our last night at the cottage with the fish that were caught for the week. My daughter brought a friend for the week, and they were both busy with everything there was to offer as it relates to Lake Living. They Kayaked, went paddle boating, enjoyed the Sandbar as much as the adults did, and they commented on the WI-FI that was available for their entertainment. The property layout was also a big hit. The property itself, sits up high (Elevation-wise) in relation to other properties around the lake. This made for great view of the lake and a great photos. We also took Yard Games such as ladder ball, Bean Bags, and the game Yardzee, which was also fun. Fire Pit was great and we used it every night we were there. Overall-5 Star Stay! Our hats go off to the Owner-Paul for thinking of everything as it relates to Lake Living and Relaxation. Thanks Paul for everything, Great Place for Any Family. We are even considering booking for next year as well.
Thank You - The Jazz's, Stawaras, and the Sammons Families.
We just returned from a weeks stay and completely enjoyed ourselves. The house has all the conveniences of home (air, washer/dryer, wifi, etc.) but with a gorgeous lake and boat. The house is completely stocked with towels, linen, bedding, blankets and plenty of pillows. The kitchen is well stocked too, with appliances, dishware, pots & pans, utensils, etc. The only thing we found missing was a potato peeler, for which we added two. Three of our four adult children dropped in throughout the week and loved it as well. Our 10 year old grandson fished and swan his heart out. It was a relaxing week and perfect getaway.
The gas can for the boat was not where the instructions said it would be, so we called the owner who immediately answered and told us where to find it.
Our daughter and her family rented the same week directly across the lake from us with very similar furnishing, minus the towels & bedding which they had to bring, plus no air. They paid $700.00 more than our rental, albeit it was dog friendly.
Highly recommend this rental to anyone who wants convenience and some peaceful downtime.
Thank you Paul Bailey.
