Bring your golf clubs, as two different public courses, including one championship course, Hawks Haven are within two miles of the house., and another great course, The Beaches is also close by near South Haven. This is The Blueberry Capital, so harvest (U-Pick, if you please) fresh blueberries, peaches, strawberries and apples or the many fruits de mer with trout, salmon or perch via charter fishing. There are over 1,200 boat slips for private boaters within the harbor.

Dinner cruises sail you into sunsets which rival those of Key West, California or Hawaii. Sherman's Ice Cream Parlor is a favorite post-sunset tradition. Festivals, harbor side concerts and night life continue the experience.

Area: Between Chicago and Detroit, South Haven is one of Michigan's best kept secrets. The Wall Street Journal recently rated the town as one of the top ten vacation home locations. About Robert Leneway

I am a university professor in educational technology at Western Michigan University who travels much during the summer season and my wife who is a recently retired pediatric G.I. P.A. who also likes to travel. We also enjoy sharing our our custom designed beach home in South Haven with families and couples wishes to relax and enjoy a quiet get away with families and friends.

Robert Leneway purchased this house in 2002

Why Robert Leneway chose South Haven

After raising our family of four, we sold a large house in the Kalamazoo area and worked with well known beach architect, John Allegretti to design and build a house just for us. I hope that you will enjoy the many special design features of this arts and craft style home with special features such as warm floors, large second story screen in porch with lake view, high speed internet, extra sound insulation, etc.

What makes this house unique

While it is close to South Haven, Saugatuck and two golf courses, it far enough away from the crowds of summer in the local resort towns to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature with a 180 degree view of Lake Michigan. Come see for yourself why this place is special.

Girls getaway to the Beach

  • 4 of 5

This beach house had the perfect location (across the street from Lake with out any houses in front of us) and a great view of Lake Michigan. Although the beach was many steep steps down a large bluff it was beautiful. This house is away from the craziness of the tourist towns nearby. The interior was clean and nice. The owner was kind and easy to work with. The room downstairs (next to the garage) was not nearly as nice as the upstairs rooms. The only problem we had was not his fault...the internet was down while we were there. It was a cable company problem. I would recommend this property.

Owner's Response: Like most rentals in this part of Michigan, except those in the crowded towns along rivers like South Haven, the houses sit on or near high bluffs. This custom build house was design by John Allegretti, an nationally award winning, architect to take full advantage of spectacular 180 degree views of Lake Michigan. It shares a new near by 100 step stairs to a wonderful sugar sand semi-private beach with six other rentals in the area. Shortly after this particular stay, the Cable company replaced the buried high speed Internet line that was cut by a construction crew in the area. It has both an available desktop pc and wireless access. While the charming first floor sleeping area with twin beds does not have the same remarkable views as the third floor bedrooms, it is close to the gardens and outdoor sitting areas. If you are a family or group of six or less and seeking a quiet, relaxing get away surrounded by beautiful gardens and fantastic views of Lake Michigan, this is the place.

South Haven Rental

We had a wonderful time. Great location close to S. Haven and Saugatuck. Beautifuls views of Lake Michigan from both main floors and sits right on a bluff overlooking L. Michigan. The beach is nice and secluded with minimal people which makes it even more serene.. Great outdoor patios and owners made us very comfortable with their hospitality measures. I would definitely return to this spot.

A slice of heaven

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 6 spent a week in paradise at this home. It is lovely, inside and out. The house is extremely well appointed and had absolutely everything we needed for our stay. A few beach towels and groceries were all we had to add to what was already available to us.

This house was perfectly clean, and we felt immediately at home. I am picky about cleanliness - I did not feel the need to wash the linens or the dishes or the bathrooms before we used them. Everything was modern and spotless.

The kitchen could not have been better stocked. The beds were so comfortable, we were tempted to sleep in every day. But waking up to the view from either bedroom makes you want to jump up and start your day. The bed linens, I must add, were far better than what you'd expect from a rental home. They were more suited to a luxury hotel. Towels were plentiful.

The neighborhood is very quiet and peaceful, as is the beach. The stairs to the lake are challenging, I think we counted 102 of them, so you must plan ahead. They did not stop us from swimming every day, or eating dinner at the beach, or having a bonfire on the sand at sundown.

The owner, Bob, was very, very responsive and easy to work with. You can trust his word. Everything posted on this website regarding this home is true. I would rent this home again without blinking an eye.

It was a wonderful, memorable week for us with no disappointments whatsoever.

Great for relaxing.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here as a last stop, on our vacation, prior to flying home from Chicago. It provided just the right atmosphere for us to "chill out". Everything you could possibly need, fantastic sunsets, and an ideal location. We had visited South Haven before, but even without any "local" knowledge all the local amenities are easy to find. Good places to eat, shop and enjoy a few beers, all within easy reach. Douglas, Sagatauk and Holland all within easy reach, for a bit of exploring.

The house itself was of a very high standard (and we have used VRBO extensively), with evrything you could posibly need. Access to the Internet was most welcome, to assist with planning our onward journey.

All in all a superb property, that I would have no hesitation in recommending.

We had a wonderful time at the house! The views were absolutely spectacular! The house was beautiful but also very comfortable and the private beach was very convenient. We brought our two young children and they had a great time! We would highly recommend it!
