We fell in love with Captiva after a short visit to the gulf coast in 1998. We had just build a vacation home in Breckenridge, Colorado but after finding Captiva we decided that we love the warm weather and the beautiful beach more more than the cold. We quickly sold the mountain property and purchased our lovely Life's a Beach cottage located in the heart of the island. We have never regretted buying the cottage and love to spend as much time as possible in Captiva. This island is a wonderful place and the beaches and sunsets magnificent.
We are sure you will fall in love with Captiva and Life's a Beach too.

Captiva is the most beautiful tropical island in the US.
The one thing all our quests comment on is that they feel like they have left reality and stress behind and truly felt like living in paradise for a while. Leave all your worries on the mainland and enjoy our beautiful island and our relaxing cottage.
I've been coming to Captiva for decades and this year had a family get together on the island that required renting a house. Life's a Beach was the perfect tonic. Short walk down private road to the beach, short walk to the "crossroads" and the island market and most of the restaurants on the island. Once you park, you don't have to get back into the car until that unfortunate day when it's time to go. Beds comfortable, house is well appointed and decorated.
Life's a Beach is truly a subtropical paradise. The cottage has every amenity any traveler could desire. It is bright, clean and in a quiet neighborhood. We were happy to see the one bathroom was updated and there were new beach chairs to use. The owners regularly maintain the property and make nice additions for the guests. This was our second visit, and we've already booked our third. Our favorite things are the beach decor, lush plants and trees, the hot tub, nightly sunsets less than a block away, and good restaurants within easy walking distance. There is a lot to do in the area! Last year we cruised with Captiva Cruises to Cabbage Key and saw many dolphins (check for coupons at floridatravel.com or the Sanibel visitor's center). This year we took a shelling cruise to Cayo Costa State Park with Captiva Cruises, kayaked through Buck Key with Adventure Sea Kayak, visited the Bailey Matthews National Shell Museum and walked the beaches at the Sanibel lighthouse, Captiva and Blind Pass. We enjoy driving through J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge to see birds (and this year an alligator). I highly recommend Life's a Beach!
My daughter and I arrived during a beautiful sunset after a long day, and were uplifted the moment we saw the colorful hand made entry sign welcoming us to Life's A Beach Cottage.
We felt a true sense of home as we entered and settled in for our 4 days on Captiva Island.
Every detail is attended to from the fully appointed and colorful kitchen, to the super comfortable beds and beautifully decorated rooms. The gorgeous island inspired paintings throughout the house add to the exotic tropical feeling, as do the lovely fabrics and coordinated colors in each room. We tried to do much of what was suggested by the owner and in the information booklet, from kayaking in Tarpon Bay, wildlife viewing in Ding Darling, and the famous shell museum, (Sanibel) to Manatee watching at the marina, sunset at Mucky Duck, and a super fun dinner at The Bubble Room. All were wonderful experiences! The cottage is perfectly located so we could walk to most everything, including the very close beach, yet its set in the middle of a short quiet street so we had calm, peaceful evenings. My daughter and I loved every minute here, and only wished we had more days to stay. There would be plenty of room for our whole family or a few friends to stay as well, but it retains a cute cozy feel with an artistic, sophisticated flair.
Icing on the cake, the full moon peeking out from the clouds directly above, through the living room sky light. We would come back in a heartbeat.
We travelled from Switzerland and just loved the Life's a Beach cottage and Captiva island. The location is the best on teh island, quiet small street but just minutes from teh beach and village.
Rented a boat at Jensens marina to go to Upper Captiva which was also amazing and just great to be on teh water.
Our teenage sons also enjoyed the trip since there is allot of nature activities such as kayaking, boating, fishing etc.
The cottage was perfect and offered everything we needed. It is well kept and we enjoyed the tropical colorful decor.
Stayed here for a week. Very charming little house in a fantastic location. Some things do need to be updated though...the beds were a bit rough and pillows were very old. Had to put books underneath one of the mattresses to even it out. Beach umbrella was broken, chairs were rusted and the coolers were so dirty, we went out and bought our own. Living room has only space for 4 people so be prepared for that.
Renting was easy and the people were fantastic to work with.
Life's a Beach was such a perfect addition to my vacation! It was equipped with everything I needed, it was vibrant with Island artwork, and it was so close to the beach. The best part was the jacuzzi!!
