Vacciago Apartment Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 4

Casa Miralago is a superb two bedroom apartment with fantastic lake views from every (yes every!) room, and swimming pool (9 metres x 5 metres), set in terraced grounds overlooking Lake Orta, the most enchanting of the Italian Lakes. It occupies the upper two floors of a period villa in an idyllic setting on a wooded slope below a small village. Stay here to enjoy the great view, with its ever changing hues by day and by night, the peaceful setting, and to sample the delights of a wonderful area of Italy away from the crowds.

Location and Local Area: Casa Miralago is just three kilometres from the beautiful car-free lakeside village of Orta San Giulio, where there are cafes and mouth-watering trattorias catering for all tastes. Many wonderful day trips can be made in the area, on and around Lake Orta, to Lake Maggiore, and in the mountains. We provide descriptions of seven favourite local walks, several of which start from your front door! There is a great beach at Miami at the south end of the lake. Boat trips on Lake Orta. Rowing boats for hire in Orta San Giulio.

Getting There: This great apartment is just 24 miles from Milan Malpensa airport, where many flights arrive (including EasyJet, British Airways, and Alitalia), and where there are all the main car hire companies. there are also low cost flights with Ryanair and EasyJet, to Turin, Milan Linate, and Milan Bergamo, all within 90 minutes drive.

Now with free wifi internet (installed March 2014) - good ADSL line.

Holiday Homes at Lake Orta: We only rent accommodation at Lake Orta, and we have other apartments too in this wonderful area, please email or telephone William for full information (or find us on Google under Holiday Homes at Lake Orta).

Charming and comfortable stay with great views

  • 4 of 5

Fabulous view and spacious apartment. We did not use the upstairs room but looked like a fun set-up for kids. The village is completely charming and we loved the quiet, undiscovered, peaceful feeling of the beautiful environs. Really excellent communication from the owner throughout - really above and beyond - including helping us navigate a VERY late arrival due to flight delays. Also excellent arrival/info pack that we used a lot (including for rainy day activities). Highly recommend the agriturismo just down the pathway from the apartment -- we were raving about that meal for days. Some small things with the flat - bathroom probably in need of an update and repair - but overall comfortable and has everything you need for a relaxing stay!

Well maintained apartment in lovely grounds with amazing views.

  • 4 of 5

Really nice place that we would plan on visiting again. Perfect for two adults and although room upstairs for children many parents would be unhappy with their kids going up the rickety spiral stairs. Other neighbours at site easy to get on with. Nice restaurants in walkable distance although as apartment is high up the walk home is a chore. The location high up though gives the most outstanding feature which is view from balconies of lake and mountains - simply stunning. Car absolute must.

Beautiful view

  • 4 of 5

We loved the stay at Casa Miralago: perfect view on the lake and the hills, beautiful house and comfortable appartment and a lovely pool. We stayed with two kids and we enjoyed the stay very much. The location is excellent: close to good restaurants, close to Orta SanGiulio, the lake, the mountains and in a peaceful environment at the same time.

Wonderful house with great view of Lake Orta

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is excellent, with everything you might need (and much more). The location is fantastic, great view of the lake, quiet in the middle of nature, many walks, many lovely villages. It's inside a beautiful mansion just outside the village of Vacciago.

Pros: Wonderful views, very well equipped, many possibilities of excursions, many walks, lovely churches, excellent documentation by the owner (with everything you need to know and tons of useful information about shopping, excursions, market days and places, transport to Milano and other places, walks).

Cons: The room on the second floor is a bit warm on a sunny day. Driving in some of the narrow roads (and very narrow streets in the villages) has its charms, but be careful that the locals tend to drive must faster here than what you would find reasonable. No wireless internet in the house - go to the Venus restaurant in San Giulio.

What we did (and liked): Visit Milano (1 hour drive to the Lampugnano car park, what a town!), go to Macugnaga (1h30' drive on good road to the foot of the Monte Rosa - excellent excursion), go to the Island (of course), visit Lago Maggiore, the Alpine Gardens near Baveno, up the Mottarone, and the area of Boleto with the impressive Madonna del Sasso perched high on a rock several hundreds of metres above the lake.

What we did (but were disappointed): went to the famous wine regions of Asti and Novara. We expected to see hilly vineyards stretching around the landscape and come across many wine cellars selling local wines. But we didn't find anything like what you see in Bourgogne and Alsace or even the Mosel in Germany. Maybe we just didn't look in the right places.

Final verdict: highly recommended.

value for money

We stayed in juli 2011 one week in this appartment (2 parents and teenage kids). the appartement was good; not luxurous, but everything we needed for one week holiday was available (even more; like a washing machine). Beds were excellent, we slept perfectly, overal the apartment was convenient.

Our children liked the pool; big enough to have some fun, and we made also a lot of fun with the obligatory swimmming caps.

The view was beautifull; we looked at the mountains in the sun and also saw very threatening clouds and thunders and lightning. the environment was good for us; not particularly exiting, but typical italian slow life; a village, a little walk, a glass of wine in the village.

The onely thing that we really missed was a balcony or terrace to sit and eat upon. There are 2 little balconies, but not big enough for all of us at the same time.

The owner was very helpfull and provided us with a lot of information. Also the owner of the Bottega was a big help to get information about the local life (through him we found a docter).

Great location, great facilities, v. helpful owner

  • 5 of 5

We were at Casa Miralago in late May 2010, two of us plus our 17 month old. The apartment really does have fabulous views from the sitting room / kitchen and bedroom. The area is lovely. And the apartment is very comfortable and well equipped. One or two very minor things could do with attention, but we had a great holiday.

There are plenty of children's books and a duplo train set - perfect for those with young toddlers! Swimming pool wasn't open when we were there which wasn't a problem for us (you are told at time of booking).

Lots of places for good eating nearby - not particularly cheap relative to some other places we've been in Italy, (and not helped by euro to pound exchange rate!) but nonetheless good value.

Wee shop in Vacciago (Edo's Bottega) is brilliant - and has some very good value local wine.

Was very impressed with the owner's "customer service" throughout - William is very helpful and quick to respond to queries.

So long as you're prepared to walk up steep hill, this apartment would be easy enough with public transport ~ 20mins walk from train station but it is a very steep hill on way back!

One note - there are a few references in visitors book to some issues with other residents of apartment later in the season (August). So if you have a noisy family this is may not be the apartment for you at that time of year. But we found other residents to be very friendly and welcoming.

All in all would definitely recommend this as a place to stay (but please don't expect "luxury" - you're not paying for it!)

Owner's Response: Please note that the apartment is suited to groups of all ages, and that a car is still recommended for this apartment, even if you don't use it some days.

Superb location on the east side of Lake Orta, Italy's most enchanting lake, in wonderful village (Vacciago) with well stocked village shop. Come to this area for the peace and tranquillity, to explore local towns and villages, for the beaches, for superb walking, for water sports, for golfing (4 superb golf courses), for skiing locally (on the Mottarone) at Macugnaga or other nearby resorts, or as a base for the entire lakes region, rafting in the Val Sesia, Isola Bella and Villa Taranto on Lake Maggiore, also for locally produced organic milk, cheese and ice-cream, and for the wide range of superb local restaurants at modest prices. What more could you want and all in one area!
