OVER 100 ACRES TO ROAM - FROM BEAUTIFUL WATERFALLS TO ROAN HIGH KNOB. LONGER TERM RENTALS WELCOME!
Named for the creek that flows beside it, Laurel Creek Cottage is a wonderful retreat beneath the High Knob of Roan Mountain. Located half way between Bakersville, NC and the Appalachian Trail at Carver's Gap, it is a beautiful drive from the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Our area is known for the Rhododendron Gardens atop Roan Mountain and for the many Christmas tree farms. Our communities have great public areas for hiking, swimming, fishing, jogging, tennis and bicycling. These creek side and river side parks are pristine and relaxing. Other area activities include tubing, kayaking, gem mining, studio tours for local artists, museums and entertaining evenings at local restaurants and gathering spots.
As hosts to our visiting guests, we strive to make your trip enjoyable and comfortable. Our master suite is a soothing place with a king bed, cathedral ceilings and skylights. The double door access to the creek side covered deck invites one to explore the outdoors and the nearby waterfalls. Laurel Creek is a native stream. The sound of the rushing water has been a lullaby for many of our guests.
Our guest room has a double bed with a single bed bunk above. Another full bath is right next to the guest room and deck access, just steps away.
The cottage has all the conveniences of home. Linens and towels are provided. The living room adjoins the kitchen and dining area, and there is a 'mud room' entrance for those snowy days.
Asheville's Biltmore Estate is a leisurely drive of just over an hour. The slopes of Boone and Banner Elk are within an hour's drive. Our area is conveniently located near other exciting adventures. Packages are available as well.

As beautiful as the pictures
The cottage was welcoming and wonderful, and the new porch roof was a perfect touch. We enjoyed a fire by the creek, a hike following the waterfalls (never found the top!) while our Thanksgiving turkey was roasting. The area is just spectacular. As remote as it is, we were able to find a roasting pan in Bakersville on Thanksgiving Day when I discovered I had left my pan home! We really enjoyed our stay.
Amazing weekend at Laurel Creek Cottage
The pictures do not do this house (and scenery)justice! We booked a last minute get away, in hopes to get away, just the two of us, and away spend time together. This house is perfect for just that. It is located at the end of the road, and although you can see the owners house across the street, which is overlooking a beautiful Mountain View, the minute you are inside you are drawn the backyard which feels like you are alone on a mountain, whith an amazing creek that runs right next to it. The owners were extremely helpful to make sure we had everything we needed, and that we didn’t need to contact them for anything. We saw them briefly, but it was clear that they were available if needed them, but respected their renters space to enjoy the property. We hiked up to a beautiful waterfall, which is located on the mountain, and accessible when leaving from the back yard. Cooking utinsels, linens, garbage bags, grill are all provided at the resd. The back porch, overlooking the river, is covered and has rocking chairs, grill and nice table. We spent most of our time out there. House has WiFi provided and we had spotty cell covg. (That was a plus for us, when trying to escape our hectic work schedules). It rained our second day at the house, but we were able to watch movies on Netflix and/or satellite and just relax in the cozy cottage. The second bedroom had bunk beds and is perfect, if you were to bring kids with you on this trip. We didn’t get a chance to fish, because of the weather, but we will definitely be planning another get away here.
Laurel creek cottage
We loved the cottage the location is perfect. The creek was amazing my kids really enjoyed it and didn’t want to leave. The cottage was clean and comfortable Jo Ann and Charles were very welcoming and helpful. We will definitely be back!
It is so peaceful and quiet. I enjoyed my stay and Joann is a wonderful host! I will be back very soon!
It was a lovely place to stay for the weekend. House was clean and they have a great back porch where the creek is. No complaints and would definitely recommend.
Comfortable house, beautiful creek, beautiful master suite, improvements could be made.
The house was comfortable and reasonably priced! My family had everything we needed and the owners provided things we didn't even expect! There is a beautiful creek outside that you can hear all night long from your bed! The master suite is beautiful! A few improvements could be made, especially on the other end of the house, which seemed older. The bathroom is very small and has a sliding door that does not lock, next to a small bedroom with no door. The wifi worked most of the time, in most parts of the house. Overall, I am pleased with my stay, but acknowledge that it could have been even better!
