Bakersville Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 5)

THIS WINTER SAVE $300 ON MONTHLY RENTAL. RATES INCLUDE ALL UTILITIES, WI-FI, YARD MAINTENANCE, AND DIRECT TV! OVER 100 ACRES TO ROAM - FROM BEAUTIFUL WATERFALLS TO ROAN HIGH KNOB. LONGER TERM RENTALS WELCOME!

Named for the creek that flows beside it, Laurel Creek Cottage is a wonderful retreat beneath the High Knob of Roan Mountain. Located half way between Bakersville, NC and the Appalachian Trail at Carver's Gap, it is a beautiful drive from the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Our area is known for the Rhododendron Gardens atop Roan Mountain and for the many Christmas tree farms, as Mitchell County is the Home of the Perfect Christmas Tree. Our communities have great public areas for swimming, fishing, jogging, tennis and bicycling. These creek side and river side parks are pristine and relaxing. Other area activities include tubing, kayaking, gem mining, studio tours for local artists, museums and entertaining evenings at local restaurants and gathering spots.

As hosts to our visiting guests, we strive to make your trip enjoyable and comfortable. Our master suite is a soothing place with a king bed, cathedral ceilings and skylights. The double door access to the creek side deck invites one to explore the outdoors and the nearby waterfalls. Laurel Creek is a native stream. The sound of the rushing water has been a lullaby for many of our guests.

Our guest room has a double bed with a single bed bunk above. Another full bath is right next to the guest room and deck access, just steps away.

The cottage has all the conveniences of home. Linens and towels are provided. The living room adjoins the kitchen and dining area, and there is a 'mud room' entrance for those snowy days.

Asheville's Biltmore Estate is a leisurely drive of just over an hour. The slopes of Boone and Banner Elk are within an hour's drive. Our area is conveniently located near other exciting adventures. Packages are available as well.

Keywords: Relax on the Cool Deck or Hike the Mountain. Fall Asleep Listening to the Creek from the Master Suite

Great location!

  • 4 of 5

Really this should be 4 & 1/2 stars. The only issues for us were the slight mustiness due to being by a creek-we both have allergies-& the kitchen sink handles working backwards. But we would definitely stay there again. The location was perfect for my son's wedding at Lavonia Crest + we were so close to Roan Mountain that it was easy to get there for a couple of hikes. The cottage was extremely clean & well organized with everything you could possibly need. Charles greeted us-such a nice person!-& Jo Ann was wonderful with communications pre-trip. Even though they live right across the street, we had plenty of privacy. We definitely recommend this little cottage in the beautiful valley of Bakersville!

Wonderful, no other words will work

  • 5 of 5

Arrived a few hours before my wife on Friday. Greeted immediately by Carter. Once I gave him some of my beef jerky, we were best friends all weekend. Carter was the families dog. Unfortunately Jo Ann made him go back to his house, but my wife arrived and we had a very wonderful experience. Loved the place. Clean, quiet, end of the road. Long drive to civilization, but that's why we came. If you trip over the threshold in the master bedroom, you might fall into the creek. Cannot begin to explain how close the water is, and the sound was so perfect. Slept with doors open to hear that all night.

We came to the area to watch the Night Race at Bristol. Only got 30 laps in before the rain stopped it. We couldn't stay Sunday to finish the race. So between all the travel and child care and planning, we didn't achieve our purpose for the trip, but would do it all over again. Hiked the Appalachian Trail, enjoyed the beauty of this great country, and loved every minute.

Next time I want Carter to hang out more, but other than that it was amazing. I would recommend this to anyone!!

Beautiful quaint little house setting.

  • 4 of 5

My fiancee and I planned our vacation to the North Carolina mountain area around the multiple motorcycle routes available. This vacation home fit the bill almost perfectly. The only reason I say that is the driveway is a little awkward getting into with the motorcycles, the homeowners had no objection to us pulling in wide in their driveway to make the parking more accessible though. Overall the area and the stay was gorgeous.

Great Getaway in a Great Location from a Great Couple!!!

  • 5 of 5

I hope this review helps you to make the decision process a little easier. First off, we were looking for a getaway from the distractions of our normal week with 4 teenagers. We hit the nail on the head staying at this cottage, and in this area. I started with a verbose review and it cut me off, so here is the abridged version:

Renters: Awesome communication! Jo Ann helped us with suggestions to great eateries, local stores and info. She even provided her personal number which we had to use to confirm directions on the trip up and she was happy to help!

Cottage: Clean, comfortable and cozy; exactly as described. Master Suite is the best, and we didn't use any other part of the cottage. Deck is secluded and the creek is the number one amenity. We left the back door open at night, fell asleep to the sound of rushing water and the view of stars through the skylight. Was perfect! Had a deer in the front yard on Saturday night when we returned. Wen't hiking up the creek and took about a thousand pics. Just beautiful. Note: Cottage does have Wi-Fi which we used sparingly. AT&T does NOT get Cellular Service in Bakersville but DOES in Spruce Pines. This was perfect for us because we truly wanted a a get a way trip.

Area/Town: Helen's restaurant was so good, we ate their twice. Highly recommended. I wish we had more time to explore Bakersville, it was very charming. The river going through the town has an awesome walkway that is lit with quaint street lamps. Can't wait to go back. the drive to and from the small town was breathtaking. Christmas Tree fields, majestic mountains and farm houses. Dollar General was very convenient for any missing items. Spruce Pine has more commercial stuff and is about 20-30 minutes away.

Key Items that Would Make Us Return:

- Renters

- Creek, sounds and beauty

- Price

- Bakersville Community/Area

- Distance from Our Home

Wonderful little cottage!

  • 4 of 5

This is a nice little cottage with a great backyard area. The weather was a little colder than normal but still enjoyed the rushing creek and serenity. Had a fire in the fire pit. Would be nice to have the door open at night and listen to the creek but it was too cold during our stay. It was very clean and nice property owners. Had trouble finding the office with no sign but we would recommend this little cottage. No internet connection but that was okay for us to get away from technology for a few days.

Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying in this cottage. The creek is a major selling point!! It was unreal how close it was to the house and how soothing it was! We loved the location as it was close to everything but yet not right in town. The owners house is right there in front of you which does kind of take away from the feeling of "getting away from it all" but I must say that they were friendly and did not bother us at all. It was not something that would prevent me from returning! Thanks!
