Idleyld Park House Rental Photos and Description

House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, +2 twin beds (Sleeps 1 couple or 3 individuals)

This cozy cedar-shingled, cottage-style house has a private drive and 1 acre lot with 120 ft of frontage along the North Umpqua River. The spacious private yard features a giant sycamore tree, and a cedar deck overlooking the river below and old-growth forest beyond. A great R&R destination, honeymoon hideout, or anniversary getaway. You can spend an entire day in solitude or take day-trips to the ocean, Crater Lake, wineries, and enjoy many other activities and tours nearby.

It is located 1/4 mile from a store (food, gas, fishing licenses and tackle, beer-wine-liquor, post office) and 3 miles from several restaurants. Once you park here you won't need to drive anywhere, unless you want to explore Crater Lake National Park (75 miles), the Umpqua National Forest (10 miles), or the Wild and Scenic Reach of the North Umpqua River and the 75-mile North Umpqua Trail (2 miles).

This part of the river is famous for year-round fly-fishing for steelhead, and whitewater rafting and kayaking. Also for many short trails to beautiful waterfalls. The local town of Glide has a famous Glide Wildflower Show each April, and the Umpqua valley has winery tours year-round.

About Rich

I've spent years renovating this and two other riverfront houses to share this beautiful piece of the North Umpqua River with other outdoor lovers. I live nearby and will be sure your stay is a pleasant one.

Rich purchased this house in 2001

Why Rich chose Southern Oregon

The North Umpqua is the most beautiful river on Earth, with strong wild fish, invigorating rapids, and gorgeous scenery. The old-growth forest across the river supports abundant wildlife and exudes serenity.

What makes this house unique

Watch the eagles, ospreys, and otters patrol the river from the deck along the bank high above the water. Fish for wild trout and steelhead right in front of the house, year-round.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Rich your hospitality knows no bounds! Thanks for providing such a memorable weekend along with the awesome food, sweet cabin, private reserve fishery, and killer wine hangover :).

Immaculate home on the North Umpqua

We stayed at the lovely Blue Heron House. The home is immaculate. Very comfortable. There is a sitting area overlooking the North Umpqua River that is fantastic for enjoying the quiet morning. Rich is a wonderful host and very helpful and prompt with booking information.

Charming place

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent three days at the Blue Heron this past summer. The house is charming, spotless, well-equipped, and in a lovely location above the Umpqua River. We spent the days exploring nearby waterfalls and Crater Lake, which is a nice day-trip from the cottage. We relaxed in the evenings at the "river deck" overlooking the Umpqua, with deer meandering through the yard at dusk. Rich was an excellent host. We will return!

A very pleasant home!

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay in the Blue Heron House. We especially liked sitting out back in the sheltered deck overlooking the river. It is a wonderful location for fishing and hiking. The house was older, but we liked the warmth and charm and Rich was very good to work with. We hope to stay there again in the future.

The perfect hideaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for a week. We chose this area for fishing on the Umpqua and the wineries. But the little house was the real treat! Everything we needed and nothing we did not need. Simple, cozy, and perfectly clean. I loved the mix of retro and new appliances and furniture, the bright colors and the peaceful serenity. We ate pears from Rich's trees each day with our wine and cheese on the deck over the river. The fishing was challenging and exciting and good! The location turned out to be a boon - a little more than an hour drive to Crater Lake (take the hike down - it's well worth it - tried to fish but didn't catch anything). A little more than 2 hours drive to Bandon where we ate wonderful fish and chips and chowder at the Bait Shop and watched folks bring in Salmon and Dungeness Crabs. Just 30 minutes to the wineries near Roseburg which were casual and friendly and delicious!

Really nice!

  • 5 of 5

What a peaceful, relaxing getaway in an awesome setting. The river deck is the star of the show: it's about 100 feet from the house across the yard, and we spent as much time as we could there relaxing to the river sounds.

The house is a bit rustic (in a good way), but very clean and fully functional. There is a full kitchen with utensils, and both gas and charcoal grills. No A/C, but several ceiling and box fans. A serious heat wave might be a problem, but we were there in late Aug and it was fine. It was fine for three of us; it would work OK for a family of four. The owner, Rich, lives next door, and was friendly, helpful and interesting to talk to.

We did drive around a bit at first trying to find the place, but there is a sign for North Umpqua retreat if you look for it just west of the gas station/mart at Ideyld. Full groceries (e.g. Safeway) in Roseburg, but the mart has the basics (i.e. deli, snacks & booze). I think there is a restaurant nearby as well. Maybe an hour and a half (beautiful) drive to Crater Lark park, and less than that to several wineries.

In short: we enjoyed our stay at Blue Heron house very much, and highly recommend it to those in search of a laid-back getaway in a beautiful, tranquil area. We hope to return.
