|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
The Yough Treehouse (YTH) is located in the town of Confluence, near Lucky Dog Cafe and Riversport--in the heart of the Laurel Highlands Mountains.
YTH sits on 2 acres along the Youghiogheny River. Surrounded by 50 acres of protected woods, at the end of a one lane road but within walking distance to town and 400 yds to the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail. We now also own the 50 acres of woods across from the house. It's yours to enjoy!
Our quiet, secluded home is custom built, well equipped and clean. The house is 1500 sq feet with an open floor plan in the kitchen/living area. Also on the ground floor is a full bath. Two steps up there is a spacious master bedroom with a king bed and a second bedroom with twins. Above is large loft with a queen bed and full sleeper sofa-a room with a view. The house has a big front porch and just off the well equipped kitchen is the riverside deck with a propane grill.
Enjoy the natural beauty of the area relaxing on our spacious deck overlooking the river. Listen for geese, ducks and other birds while soaking the secluded hot tub. Fly fish for trout in the well stocked tailwaters of the dam in our back yard. Watch for heron, osprey or if you are lucky the bald eagles.
Make a day swimming and boating at the Yough Lake. Take a break from your ride through from DC to Pittsburgh on the bike trail or spend the day biking shorter routes to nearby Ohiopyle, Connellsville, Rockwood or Meyersdale. Make this the perfect retreat for trips to the 2 Frank Lloyd Wright homes (Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob) nearby. We are centrally located to the ski resorts (Wisp, Seven Springs & Hidden Valley). Enjoy rafting, canoeing and kayaking right out our door-or for more adventure in nearby Ohiopyle or Friendsville, MD.
Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway, a family planning the ultimate vacation or old friends looking for a quiet retreat our home is the perfect setting.

I grew up in Confluence and developed a love of the outdoors, which turned into a career racing kayaking and eventually how I met my husband. We purchased the 'Treehouse' in 1996, started a family and lived until 2010 when we moved to nearby Morgantown, WV. We were heartbroken with the thought of selling our beloved home. One day a good friend, who knew of our dilemma said, 'Why don't you make it a vacation rental and keep it?!'. And instantly our problem of parting with our home was solved and we were on our way to making it an ideal vacation home. Renting our home as been incredibly rewarding, as we love to make people happy and we are proud to share our much loved home and the wonders of the Laurel Highlands with others.
What we miss most about our home are: hosting friends on the deck, making pizzas on the kitchen island, hot tubbing after a long x country ski or bike trip, seeing a pair of bald eagles diving for breakfast out our kitchen window and the convenient access to the outdoors. That is why we are sharing this unique spot with others. We think you'll love it too.
Kara Weld purchased this house in 1996
The Treehouse has an unbeatable location and the perfect layout for a small multi generational family, a single family or a small group of friends. Perched on the Yough River, moments to the GAP bike trail and surrounded by 50 acres of woods, yet within walking distance to town. The Treehouse feels secluded yet nearby. The house is beautiful, well appointed and clean. The large deck, hot tub and newly landscaped riverside fire ring patio are meant for family and friend quality time. Come to the mountains to relax and enjoy.
Some of the unique benefits of staying here are: the convenience to town, the quiet, the surrounding woods, strolling down to Lucky Dog Cafe for dinner, soaking in the claw foot master bath tub--or better yet, the hot tub, drinking coffee while reading the paper on the deck, basically no traffic on our one lane road, the eagles, heron and osprey, the fishing and the proximity to the bike trail, oh and the river!
My husband and I spent the holiday at the Yough Treehouse. The house is furnished wonderfully with a large living room - kitchen area. Two bathrooms with plenty of space. The loft area is like a private space with a bed, chairs and sofa with an excellent view of the outside. The house backs up to the river. The deck and large fire pit/hot tub area are great. If you are looking for peace and quiet this is the place. Plenty of trails within walking distance. During the off season - October till March - the area is shut down. The only store in town is the Dollar General. You can drive to Ohiopyle for the state park - there was one restaurant/general store open with great food there. The locals are very friendly. Thankfully we brought groceries with us.
Make sure to visit the Frank Lloyd Wright homes in the area. Go hiking in Ohiopyle State Park. There are wineries to visit in the area. This area seems to be hopping in the spring/summer time!
Kara is great to work with and they have recently made upgrades to the house. She goes out of her way to make sure you are happy!
Took my daughter and some of her friends for her 18th bday weekend celebration. What an amazing little place. I am very picky about where I stay so honestly I was a little nervous. Always afraid of places being dirty. This house was near spotless. And the amenities were spot on. The girls had a blast in the hot tub. It's far enough from civilization to feel country, but close enough to life for that late night snack life. Looking forward to coming again. Beem from SWPA my whole life and never knew this treasure existed.
My lovely bride and I, another couple, and a friend from Pittsburgh spent two nights at this lovely place in late May. The property is just as described. Working with Kara (the owner) was a great experience: very responsive, quick to answer questions, and quick to give us a heads-up about getting gas before we got to town. The home sits above the Yough River, easy to see and hear from the house, deck or hot tub. Easy parking for two vehicles. Inside, the house is very comfortable, with a big closet to the right of the front door and a bathroom to the left. The living room has good lighting and comfy sofa and chairs. The kitchen is well equipped; all appliances were easy to use. The dining "bar" only has four stools but there are folding chairs in the closet. The master bedroom is quite large with a huge closet, full bath with old-fashioned tub and plastic shower curtains. There is a door that opens onto the deck. The kitchen also has a door that opens onto the deck. We cooked-in both nights and enjoyed our meals on the deck (we had perfect weather!). The other downstairs bedroom has twin beds. The loft is huge, with chairs on one end, and windows galore. There is no bathroom up here. Guests using the loft have to use the bathroom on the first floor. The washer and dryer are in the basement and there was plenty of laundry soap. Easy to use Wi-Fi. Three of us used the hot tub each late afternoon = as my wife said each time she climbed in: "Aaahhhhh!" The road is totally quiet since the only two houses are those owned by Kara and her husband, John. We visited the Flight 93 Memorial up in Stoystown/Shanksville = a powerful and moving experience. We also visited Fallingwater, Frank Lloyd Wright's iconic home built for the Kaufman family = awesome. And on the day we departed, we did a short hike in Ohiopyle State Park = beautiful. One evening we walked down the hill and across the bridge to the Outflow Ice Cream shop = yummy! Kara will send you a lot of information about the house and you will find a binder with the same and additional info on the living room table. There also are brochures to area attractions on the shelf in the living room. Overall, we had a wonderful time staying here. Our only regret: we couldn't stay longer!
We wanted to visit the Flight 93 Memorial and looked for somewhere to stay nearby. We are about 6 hours away in NJ and were so happy to find this lovely home surrounded by nature. The location is so perfect, literally a minute from the bike path and on the river. The home is beautiful and inviting inside, all the necessities are there. Large bedroom, great kitchen, we felt right at home immediately. We rode our bikes on the GAP trail, saw some rare birds, delighted in the chipmunks everywhere, my husband got to fly fish in the river and we just enjoyed the coziness of the home and cooking relaxing meals. If you are picky like us for food, make sure to bring what you like with you, the local grocery store is limited. We really enjoyed taking walks after dinner on the quiet road, you really feel secluded on your own private road. Thank you so much for such a great trip!
Perfect spot for a post-Pittsburgh Marathon Relay rehab/respite, for 4 middle-aged college friends! The hot tub was terrific and turned out to be more of an orthopedic treatment than just a relaxing soak. The sound of the river below and several bald eagle sightings added to the overall experience. There is a welcoming warmth about the place and we instantly felt at home. All of us agreed that we'd come back again, if the opportunity arises. (we'll just leave out the marathon next time...)
We couldn't have asked for a better experience. We have stayed at a lot of VRBO's and this one, definitely, ranks among some of the best experiences we have had.
It's super quiet, great for kids and pets, and very conveniently located.
We will be back!!
