Located along one of the stunning ridgelines soaring over Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coastline, 180 del Mar delivers commanding 180° ocean views stretching thirty miles on a clear day. The ocean provides only one stunning feature of the property. The pristine jungle ridge of Escaleras offers our guests a unique backdrop of lush tropical vegetation and close encounters with the wildlife it supports. The sound of monkeys makes for an interesting wakeup call, and there is never a shortage of tropical birds brandishing dramatic colors. Guests can anticipate a distinctive and spectacular sunset every evening no matter what time of year they chose to visit, and when the sun dips down below the horizon a new stage of stars is set.
Your stay at 180 del Mar will be one of the most memorable of a lifetime. The house was designed, built and finished all by the owner, whose unique vision resulted in three octagonal towers that provide the feeling of a never ending perspective.
Two towers house the bedrooms, purposely detached from the main living space to instill a feeling of privacy even when travelling with close family. Each spacious suite offers a distinct and impressive view, with privet terrace, bathrooms feature relaxing hot water showers, double sink vanities, and ample closet space. Of the four rooms, two contain king sized mattresses, while the others come equipped with queen sized beds, but upon request could be outfitted with additional mattresses to accommodate different sleeping situations (i.e. children).
The main tower of the house will provide everything for your home away from home. The enormity of the living room is only amplified when the accordion doors open expanding the room to the outside veranda and the ever present jungle breezes. Comfortable furnishings and handcrafted wood work give a warm and relaxing feeling as you enjoy the scenery. The kitchen was outfitted by a professional chef, so if you fancy yourself a galloping gourmet or just want to surprise everyone with breakfast, you will find everything you need; large two door refrigerator, professional gas range, dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, blender, coffee maker, full set of dinner ware for up to 15 including crystal stem ware, as well as its plastic equivalent. The dinning space features a beautiful handcrafted table that seats eight comfortably. Facing the ocean, read a book, take a nap, sip a cocktail from the wraparound porch, or take an invigorating dip in the infinity edge Jacuzzi. A fully equipped laundry room and powder room round out the features of the home.

My name is Eduardo Avancini, together with my mom, Noemi, we purchased property in Dominical in 2002 and I moved from Southampton, New York to break ground here in the hills of Escaleras. Warm water and good waves may have enticed me initially, but after 13 years this is my home. My family has grown from my daughter who came with me from New York, to include my wife and two sons who were born here. My mom recently retired and joined us in April. Being a carpenter, I designed and finished the house along with my crew.
Eduardo Avancini purchased this house in 2004
The southern Pacific zone is the most magical in the entire country of Costa Rica. Lush tropical jungle kisses the sea, with dramatic rock points and expansive stretches of pristine beach. Fantastic surf, incredible snorkeling and diving, impressive fishing make this area a water lovers paradise. The area around 180 del Mar remains largely unspoiled by large developments and resorts, therefore wildlife abounds. Monkeys, sloths, birds, reptiles, even elusive cats such as jaguars can be seen in the hills of Escaleras.
In the morning, peer over your outstretched feet to view the magnificent Pacific Ocean as the sun makes its way over the ridge illuminating the Marina below. Step out on your privet porch and be greeted by the gentle morning jungle breeze and perhaps a humming bird or two. Enjoy your Costa Rican coffee on the veranda as you try to decide what your agenda is for the day, either choosing one of the various activities or tours or simply staying put with a good book, inspiration is in the view! Wind down the day in the reverse. Enjoy a cool beverage in the Jacuzzi breathing as the sun makes its final descent and dips into the sea. Watch as the sky unfolds with stars or the moon makes her appearance. Sleep with dreams of another day just like this one for tomorrow.
Thank you for the review, your families were awesome... my kids had such fun with your terrific children, and it was a pleasure to meet you all... if you all do come back this way, we'd love to have you again!
We stayed at this home for ten days. It was everything we expected and more. The view is breath taking. Eduardo and Elizabeth were very helpful and welcoming. Would definitely stayed again.
As a family of 6, with three teenagers, we are not big into the resort scene. We were looking for a place where we could chill as a family and still get out and do activities as the mood struck us. Los Torres was the perfect situation for us.
Eduardo and Elizabeth were great hosts who went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable and all our needs were met. The house was fantastic and the open concept allowed us to enjoy ocean and mountain views. The layout enabled us to come together as family in the living room and dining room and when quiet time was sought, everyone was able to retreat to their own corner of the house.
Eduardo and Elizabeth paid for surfing lessons for the family, which was awesome. Dominical is a very laid-back surfing community that is lot of fun. Martin was really helpful in setting up tours in advance. The best were the zip lining through the trees and the horseback ride to the Nuacaya waterfalls. There's also great choices in beaches, all within 20 minutes of driving. We loved the Ventanas Beach and the caves.
We highly recommend this location...I guarantee that you will not be disappointed. Special thanks to Eduardo and Elizabeth....you guys were awesome!!
This was a trip for my husbands 50th birthday, and our 2nd time in Costa Rica. I looked at over 30 VRBO properties before I found this one. It was so perfect for our group of 5 adults, having separate baths for each bedroom wonderful. The main part of the house is totally separate for the bedrooms, when I got up at sunrise to grind our coffee no one could even hear me!
The design of this house is spectactular, it brings in the outside beauty of Costa Rica inside in a dramatic way. The beautiful setting enhances the ocean views, sunsets and sunrises, the jungle sounds and especially the fireflys. The colors are soothing, the artwork is local and very tasteful. We enjoyed the movies and books, beautiful flowers and plants and birds, we saw tucans in the trees, and spent hours in the spring water pool.
The Dominical area has so much to do we boated and fished 2 days in a row, the owners set up a great trip for us with their friend who also suggested a spearfishing guide, we had a great time with all of them.and caught fish, then we prepared the most delicious dinner in the gourmet kitchen. The horseback ride to the Nuacaya waterfall was awesome cant reccomend that tour enough.
We hope to return to this place again, the pictures dont do it justice........you just have to see it!
We stayed here with a group of 6 people (2 couples & 2 singles), ranging in age from 25 - 60. The bedroom suites were clean, spacious, and each had it's own deck/balcony with breathtaking ocean views. The king beds were a little more comfortable than the queens. Howler monkeys and unique bird calls started each of our days. And just imagine seeing the ocean, the horizon, and stars all from your bed as you drift off into sleep.
We loved the home's layout. The main house is clean, well-equipped (the kitchen rocks!) and beautifully decorated (gorgeous wood floors, vaulted ceilings with beams, and a big, comfy couch). They did a great job mixing natural design elements and materials with modern touches. And the bedrooms are just a few steps away if you want your privacy.
The entire house is designed to blur the line between outside and in. You can open all the "doors" of the main house that face the ocean so that there are barely any walls. The photos are great, but don't even begin to do it justice! In the late afternoon, we loved taking a refreshing dip in the infinity jacuzzi, watching the sun set on the ocean. The grounds are beautifully kept, incorporating the natural landscape and native vegetation.
The home is located up a winding, steep road (4WD is recommended), allowing for its commanding views of the Pacific. When you pull into the driveway, you can see the water immediately. It's a short drive to Dominical, Uvita, and many other activities in the area.
Elizabeth and Eduardo are very welcoming! They helped us settle in and answered every question we had. They set up a private surf lesson for two of us that ended up being my favorite activity I did in Costa (I'm counting the days until I can get on a board again!). Lila, Cooper and baby Shane are all so sweet. We enjoyed meeting them as well.
Whenever we get back down to the area (hopefully sooner rather than later), we'd love to stay here again.
After a short trek up a rather steep road, we arrived at this home just outside of Dominical. My fellow travelers actually screamed with excitement when they saw the house. It is tremendous, breathtakingly beautiful.
We were met by Elizabeth and Ed and their three beautiful children. Elizabeth had made us a loaf of banana bread as well as leaving us some fresh fruit and a package of the yummy coffee of the area.
Words (or even pictures) simply cannot describe how magnificent this place is. It is very interestingly appointed with the main "pod" which consists of the living room, dining room, kitchen, etc. The dining room table (I believe hand-made by the property owner Ed), is a huge round starburst of local woods and seats eight. What a work of art. There are two more "pods" each with two bedrooms/bathrooms: one upstaris and one downstairs. So it is kind-of like having an individual suite for each traveler. Each room has either a king-size or queen size bed and the beds were all super comfortable. I was also very happy to find that the house was well-stocked with so many bathtowels, and also with beach towels.
One night we were standing on the terrace watching the sun set over the Pacific Ocean and someone said "this is the most beautiful view I've ever seen; it might be the most beautiful view I'll ever see". I cannot say more!!!
