Our traditional and, folks tell us, very charming and warm old island home - with recent historic designation - is located a few yards from the beautiful 100-yard path to the beach and is just 20 minutes from Charleston.
Sullivan's Island is across the Inland Waterway with semi-tropical terrain, wide, sandy beaches, historic Fort Moultrie, a lively and varied restaurant area, public tennis courts and an old-time playground with grandstand gazebo.
Most pets warmly welcomed!
Go crabbing, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing, and sailing in the ocean or in the inlets and creeks leading to the waterway. Sullivan's Island is the site of novels of many well-known authors: Edgar Allen Poe (The Gold Bug), DuBose Heyward (Porgy and Bess), and Pat Conroy (The Prince of Tides).
Just 15 yards away from the footpath to the beautiful beach on the Atlantic Ocean, the duplex's upper level has private entrances, four bedrooms (one King, two with double beds, one with twin beds), two baths, and comfortably accommodates eight people. Living room, dining room; Ceiling fans in each room. Central Air Conditioning/Heat. Large screened front porch; Rooftop Deck with 360 degree views of the ocean, the harbor and the island.
The large, screened, front porch with plush furniture serves as a second living area. A winding staircase at the end of the porch leads to a rooftop deck with comfortable lounge furniture and gorgeous 360-degree views of the island - and of the ocean, if the Palmetto Trees don't need trimming!!!

Our father built this house over 80 years ago, and to brag for him, it's survived every storm having lost only two shingles - even the terrible Hugo in 1989!
We enjoyed getting married near Charleston and brought our friends and family to the beach house to have a wonderful taste of the lowcountry. It was relaxing, beautiful and truely a wonderful vacation spot. Everything was furnished, a fully fuctional kitchen and the beach at Sullivans's Island is still non-commerical and one of the finest. The local food, friends from many states, and the wonderful furnishings of the beachhouse made this a priceless memory. I would recommend this rental to anyone who is ready to relax in true island form.
We stayed at this house early March 2015 and had a wonderful time. It's spacious, warm and cozy. Very close to the beach, and the view from the rooftop porch is gorgeous, especially at sunrise. It was built in the 1930’s, and reflects the old time beach ambiance of Sullivan's Island. The owner is super nice, and adds to the pleasant experience. I highly recommend it.
My family stayed at this house for the weekend of my wedding. It was the perfect home base for all of the activities of the weekend. The house itself is wonderful with a lot of character and charm and the location was wonderful! Rachel was extremely accommodating and helpful. The whole family is already talking about the next trip we can plan to rent this wonderful house again!
We had the pleasure of staying on Sullivan's Island at Rachels' beautiful home the last week of May 2014. Beginning with our initial inquiry through VRBO until we checked out Rachel, and her hospitable neighbor Mr Kurtz, provided us with first class treatment. The home is charming and literally minutes from the beach and most other amenities including the beautiful city of Charleston. From our daily bike rides to evenings on the rooftop deck we could not have had a more relaxing week.
Thank You Rachel!
This was a wonderful home to enjoy time with close friends and my family. The first part of the week, we had some very close friends from our "school" days in Charleston many years ago to join us. The week was so beautiful, weather wise, and we were able to have many great discussions and particularly enjoy the rooftop deck! The path to the ocean is not far and the beach was beautiful! When our friends left, my children and their spouses joined us for the weekend. Everyone had a grand time and many, many great memories were made throughout the week. Everyone loved this classy old home, which, by the way, is very comfortable and clean. It is not far at all to make the trip to Mt. Pleasant, downtown Charleston, or in the other direction, to the Isle of Palms. Every restaurant that we went to was excellent, and Sullivan's Island itself has excellent places to dine in the small downtown area, which is less than five minutes from the home. There is no grocery store in Sullivan's Island or the Isle of Palms, but Mt. Pleasant is very close by, just over the Ben Sawyer Bridge going into Sullivan's Island. It is a drawbridge, so unless you may have to "wait" for a few minutes, which does not happen often, you can be in Mt. Pleasant, which has any and everything that one would need, in just minutes. Rachel, the owner, is a very pleasant lady to work with, and is very easily accessible in case of any need. I would definitely recommend this lovely home!!
We have stayed here for two years in a row and will stay here next summer as well. We had everything we needed and had a great time. Rachel has always been wonderful and very helpful. We were close to Charleston and all vacation activities. We could walk to the beach and relax later on the rooftop deck. Truly a great place to stay!
Our charming, old island house is about 100 yards from the very wide and beautiful Sullivan's Island beach and about 20 minutes from historic Charleston SC . Lots of history on the island from Fort Moultrie, the site of the first shot of the Civil War, Revolutionary War sites, to sites of Edgar Allen Poe's many stories for which the island was his inspiration.
