Elk, deer, black bears, wild horses, and other wildlife is abundant in the area.

4 Bears Cabin was a dream of 4 best friends from West Texas. After locating our building site in 2000, we waited five years before starting our building project. We chose a custom design log cabin from Real Log Homes and were fortunate to find a great log home representative, Bobby & Diane Springer of Lakehills, Texas. Bobby was a wonderful source for questions and help whenever we needed anything. We highly recommend Bobby and Diane…they made our dream possible. Contact Bobby by a google search for The Texas Logman.

After driving nearly 800 miles every weekend for 2 years to work on the cabin we completed our dream project in 2007. Lots of laughs, bruises, sprains, sore muscles and one or two mashed fingers resulted in the finished project. We had help from family and friends, especially Arnold and Santa George who made the trip with us so many times.

We made lots of mistakes and learned a lot about building before finishing the cabin. Now, we can enjoy the fruits of our labor when we travel to Ruidoso to enjoy a weekend or vacation at the cabin. We are proud to share our home with our guests.

4 Bears Cabin is located at 115 Mogul Rd, Sun Valley, Alto, NM, about 5 miles north of Ruidoso on Hwy 48 (Mechem Drive), across from Alto Country Club. GPS coordinates are (appx.) Lat. 33.414929 and Long. 105.684464. Mogul Road was formerly known as Aspen Road, but the name was changed due to 911 restrictions. If you look for 107 Aspen Road on Google Maps, you should find the location. Be sure to specify Sun Valley as the location.

4 Bears Cabin is close to great golfing, shopping, skiing, Lincoln National Forest, Bonita Lake, Monjeau Lookout, Sierra Blanca, horse racing, casinos, and any outdoor activity you desire.

About Bonnie Turney

4 Bears is owned by 4 lifelong friend, Benny & Bonnie Turney and Lana & Tom Cunningham of Abilene, Texas.

Bonnie Turney purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Bonnie Turney chose New Mexico

We chose Sun Valley in Alto (Ruidoso), NM for the cool mountain air, the proximity to great vacation sites, good restaurants, shopping, horse racing, casinos, and the casual atmosphere of a vacation area.

What makes this cabin unique

We enjoy sitting on the large back deck in the serene mountainous area, viewing wildlife (deer, elk, bears, wild horses) and the variety of beautiful birds. We are close to Spencer Theatre which provides high quality live entertainment on a regular basis.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We came with our parents and they had a great time as did we all. Everything was provided and dad enjoyed the wildlife and serenity. We will definitely return.

We enjoyed our stay.

The cabin is well maintained. Kitchen is well stocked; the grill worked great; loved the deck and views. Only need was soap in showers; easily remedied.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review of 4 Bears Cabin. Sorry about the soap in showers. We try to keep small soaps, but they rarely stay for long and Most guests bring their own personal toiletries because of personal preferences. I'll be sure to include this in a list of items guests will need to bring. Again, thanks for the review. We welcome your group back anytime.

Nice, well equipped home, great for large parties.

  • 4 of 5

We rented this cabin (and the one next door) for a family reunion celebration in July. This house was VERY comfortable (I don't think I've ever slept better in another bed!), with plenty of room, a VERY well supplied kitchen and pantry, and clean bathrooms. The patio was very nice, a great place to enjoy early mornings and cool evenings. We did a lot of cooking while we were there and only needed to run to the store (Albertsons is just a few mins down the main road) for specialty spices! There were plenty of utensils and coffee mugs too! The bedroom arrangements were excellent, with 2 master suites on the main floor, boasting lush bedding and super comfy mattresses (usually they are worn and you can feel the springs)! I would recommend the owner add shades (like the pull down ones) to the living room windows. No one wants to impede the great view; however, the sun is blazing during the summer's midday and without an a/c it was a bit uncomfortable. But we just made plans to be out during that time and closed the bedroom drapes to help keep it cooler. This probably isn't an issue normally but we went during a heat wave. Clean up instructions were easy and the owner was VERY responsive to the request, changes, and follow up communication! 😉 We had a great time at the 4 Bears Cabin, and our memories from this visit will last a lifetime. Thank you Bonney Turney!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review. So glad you enjoyed 4 Bears Cabin. Sorry it was such an unusually hot month..normally July is Monsoon and is cool & refreshing. The shades are a good idea..we probably need to investigate that. Thanks for your business and we would live to host your group again.

Simply Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

The children did not want to leave! This log home is simply beautiful and the pictures shown do not do it justice! We were there the first week of June and the weather was perfect. From the balcony we saw many deer, a horse, an elk and a beautiful full moon at night and early morning! It actually hailed (very small hail) one evening and it was quite beautiful. Everything we needed was provided. The beds were very comfortableI. The children enjoyed the 3 levels with the top level (loft) being the most popular. It was two of the boy's "hideaway". The kids had so much fun! The view from the family room is simply wonderful! Lots of windows at the back of the cabin with a full view of nature! It is a nice drive up to the cabin and a short drive into Ruidoso. We drove to White Sands as we wanted to "ride" the sand dunes and Bonnie suggested the use of a couple of the disks they had in the cabin which was greatly appreciated. We only stayed one week and could have stayed much longer! Thank you Bonnie for providing excellent instructions, answering all our questions and for being so accommodating! Thank you!

beautiful relaxing log cabin

  • 5 of 5

This was a beautiful cabin and well kept. The views were amazing. The deck provided plenty of room for cooking, lounging, and even game playing. We had 10 in our party and there was plenty of room all around. The dining room table was "cozy" for our party size but very manageable. We will definitely be staying here again. We were told there was a gas grill but there was not one when we arrived. We went out and bought a small one so it was not a problem and definitely did not change mine or my husbands opinion on the place.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review of 4 Bears Cabin. Our co-owners threw the grill away on their previous stay and did not have time to replace it and failed to let me know it was damaged and unusable. We will definitely replace the grill with a new one and will give you a discount on your next stay!
