Why The Owner chose Stevensville

Short drive from Chicago. Directly on Lake Michigan. Away from it all, yet plenty to do!

What makes this house unique

Wonderful place for the family to gather. Children love playing on the beaches and fun in the game room downstairs away from the adults upstairs. The galley kitchen in the great room allows everyone to interact morning until night. Cocktails at sunset are really special.

Fantastic Vacation

The pictures do not show how beautiful this house really is. We had 4 adults and 3 children in our party and the house fit us perfectly. The great room is so huge that we could be playing a game with the kids on one side while others were watching tv on the other side. Lots of extras were included--towels, full kitchen, lots of storage (no need to live out of a suitcase if you stay here;-) A new washer and dryer on the main floor made it easy to throw in a load at night while we played games or watched the sunset. My absolute favor part was that you could go down and sit on the lower deck and watch the kids play in the sand without actually having to get all sandy yourself;-) I would highly recommend this house to anyone wanting to get away.

So beautiful and relaxing

  • 4 of 5

This is a very comfortable, welcoming house. The house is literally on the water, so there is no beach right in front of it, but there is a beach on each side of it - one public and one private. Both are very short walks and fun, though we especially enjoyed the private beach because it has a sort of stream running down it, connecting the marsh to the lake. The kids LOVED playing in that warmer, shallow water and building dams in it.

The house itself is very comfortable, with many places to sit. There were 8 of us total and we never felt crowded. The only drawback is that the description claims it sleeps 9, but really it only sleeps 7. The manager was very nice and brought us a cot, so it worked out.

The view of the sunset from the deck is incredible, and it is so relaxing to see only water out the window. The window doesn't open in the master bedroom, but in the other bedrooms you can open the window and hear the lake at night.

Very nearby is Grand Mere State Park. We never got to the real park, but there is a very nice playground and picnic area right on the street. There are two huge grocery stores within about 10 minutes, and some farm stands.

The house is in a quiet area, with just a few houses around it, and pretty quiet. Stevensville itself doesn't have much to offer, but we went to St. Joseph and New Buffalo, which are fun towns with shops and restaurants.

In a word, this property was "Perfect". Mr. Heckler was kind enough to share his home with us for a week. So, we brought 7 kids and two familes yet had plenty of space for everyone to curl up and sleep. The teenagers spent most of their time in the game room, while the little kids could not get enough of the awesome beaches. As for the adults, we LOVED the sunsets on the patio. Just in case you are wondering, the beaches are no more than a few yards from the home. Likewise, the town has some awesome blueberry picking farms. We loved Bredweg's farm ! Vic, thank you for a great summer vacation and the ideal location for us to call home while we visited family.
