Relaxing mountain retreat!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Pout House! So much so we plan to rebook when it comes time to take the kids for a mountain vaction. The owners have went above and beyond stocking this cabin with little things that make it feel like home away from home. Right down from filters and sugar for you coffee to extra towels for your wet shoes or dog. Peaceful and relaxing is the only way I can describe it. My husband kept asking me if I wanted to go out sat night after our Biltmore tour but I just wanted to hang out at the cabin! Hopefully next time I can find the waterfalls lol

A good value in a nice little mountain town with nice views

  • 5 of 5

No complaints, everything was there for our small family( 2 adults, 2 young children ). The kids considered the bed setup in the 2nd bedroom as a "bunk bed" so they really liked that. The kids also liked the small hot tub, they thought it was a pool, it was big enough to have the whole family in it at the same time. The views of the mountains are nice, it's really neat to watch storms come in over the mountains. No mosquitoes at this elevation while we were there. We also enjoyed the grill and very large porch. There is a short walk to a small waterfall and creek. The internet is real cable internet not satellite internet, it's fast when it was working( we could stream video on 2 devices at once ) which was most of our stay. The internet did go out from time to time, probably because it was raining a lot while we were there. Satellite TV works great and has enough channels. We thought it was a great value, I think it would be hard to find a hotel with a 2 bedroom setup and kitchen near this price, not to mention the nice view, grill, privacy, large porch with a porch swing and hot tub. There is a Dollar General very nearby, convenient for quick purchases. Saluda is a great little town, don't miss visiting Pearson Falls which is a short drive and reasonably priced.

Very satisfied. Would stay here again.

  • 4 of 5

The Pout House is a nice clean place to get away from it all. It was very private and the porch offered great views of the nearby mountains and valleys. The hot tub was ready to go when we got there and we were able to enjoy it after a long drive. We noted a few upgrades to the property that are not reflected in the on-line photos. There’s now an automatic dishwasher installed and a wrought iron table with chairs have been added to the porch. The outside table enhanced our visit considerably. It was a nice treat to enjoy the mountain views as we ate our meals together. We ate all of our meals outside for that reason. A second LP tank was readily available in case the gas grill happened to run out of fuel, which I thought was a nice touch. I would describe the setting as "rustic" and the amenities as “acceptable”. Our bed was clean and comfortable and all the appliances we used performed well. The location was convenient to many local attractions and the property functions well as a home base so you can explore the area. All in all, we were very pleased with our selection - we felt like we got our money’s worth and we had a great time relaxing there during our stay. We would definitely recommend this property to a couple or a small family.

Family mini vacation

  • 4 of 5

Such a cute cottage with a wonderful view. Plenty of linens and the essential kitchen needs, as an added bonus the beds were super comfy. Great communication with the owners. There were lots of great outdoor activities just minutes away to keep our family busy. The nearby downtown area of Saluda had some great restaurants and cute shops. We hope to return soon!

Keep expections realistic, otherwise great location in a quiet, wooded location just outside Saluda

  • 4 of 5

If you are seeking a quiet and peaceful mountain getaway, in a small but cozy cabin that is tucked far enough away, but close enough to be within 10 minutes of great restaurants, stores, attractions (Saluda), this cabin is for you. It is truly bare bones in terms of its simplicity and size, but it was very clean and is stocked with all of life's essentials (e.g., kitchenware, linens, etc). The large front deck with a nice view and the hot tub is probably this rental's top appeal. The inside is very, very small and I would not recommend this rental for a large family (4 persons max). The entire cabin is only 500-600 sq ft so keep this in mind. We loved being just outside of Saluda, which is a neat town. We were also close to Chimney Rock State Park, Pearson Waterfall, and other great attractions within 30 minutes in any direction.

The owner, while pleasant enough, misses a few details in how things get communicated to you prior to or during your stay. Two examples: the rental agreement clearly states that check in is at 3:00. But he told us after we booked and received the agreement that check in wasn't until 4:00. It's because his cleaner didn't arrive to clean the place until 3:30, so we all hung outside on the deck until she was finished around a little after 4:00. Didn't really bother us though, but I can see how this may irk others. Also, the owner understandably replenishes the water in the hot tub before check-in, and he leaves a note that the hot tub water temperature will be warm enough for use in "6-8 hours". Not true. It easily took overnight and wasn't until the next morning until the hot tub is ready for use. Again, not a deal breaker for us but we did lose out on getting to use the hot tub during our 1st night stay. I just wish the owner could be a little better at communicating things up front so there's no misunderstandings along the way. Other than that, I recommend this rental to others that are looking for simple but clean accommodations at a good value.

Owner's Response: We're glad you enjoyed your stay in our cottage. Also, thanks for letting us know there was a discrepancy in our rental agreement, we fixed it so that it complies with our current 4pm check-in policy. We completely change the water and sanitize our hot tub between guests, and while some find issue with the 8-hour wait (especially for same day turnovers in which a guest family leaves and another arrives on the same day) most appreciate the time and care we take to assure that the hot tub is clean and safe for their enjoyment. Our spring water is a chilly 55 degrees F coming out of the ground and warming a hot tub volume of water takes time. We apologize that the house was not cleaned by 3:30, however, we did explain in our communications prior to your arrival that we were having scheduling difficulties that day and appreciated your patience. For the most part, we accommodate early arrivals, even very early arrivals. In some cases, however, we cannot.
